  • Process of printing two small blocks, "Sparrows" and "Cat", from beginning to finished prints.
I started by painting the blocks with Indian ink for better contrast with the white carbon paper. I usually don't use white carbon paper, but I was out of my regular blue carbon paper.
When using blue/black carbon paper, there is no need to paint the blocks with the Indian ink. the lines will be very visible against the grey lino. You can still give the lino a wash of Indian ink diluted with a bit of water, and that will help you see what your carving looks like as you proceed, but it's not absolutely necessary.
As a rule, I use Forbo Walton soft grey lino ( battleship grey lino). there are several other types of materials to carve, but this happens to be my favourite.
I went over the drawing in white acrylic pen. Again, this was because I used the white carbon paper, which defined the rest of the process. Usually, I transfer the drawing onto lino with blue carbon paper and then go over it in BLACK acrylic marker (If the lino isn't painted in black Indian ink, the black acrylic is very visible, as you can see in other videos I will be posting).
The reason I go over the drawing in acrylic pen is so the drawing in carbon paper won't smudge and disappear until the carving is complete.
I use Caligo Safe wash ink from Cranfield colours (in this case, black). The paper I used for this print is Japanese Kitakata from Awagami. This is a very thin paper with a beautiful tan hue. Thin papers like this pick up the details from the block very easily.

May I ask, how do you store prints so that they are free if damage and can last?
Also, stunning art, you are so inspiring✨

Thank you so much, that's so kind 🙂 I store them in drawers, inside hard cardboard folders, which I make for that purpose.
