Loved that lady stopping to talk story. You could tell she had as much fun talking about the old days as we all want to know. She is kamaiana for sure! Wow to have grown up and saw the area change as it is to now.
I have decided that my dream Hawaii house would be one of two on the private drive end of Black Point Road, back from the water and elevated. Other than that, one in Mililani, one in Kailua, one on Hawaii Loa Ridge but not too high up the road.
Loved the interaction with that sweet lady.....it brought back memories for my hubby who used to go with his friends and sneak a swim in Doris Dukes saltwater pool.....back in the day. We could listen to her memories forever.
I'd give almost anything to live in a bedroom and share other things and pay about 700 a month, but those days are gone. It's a shame, spending 5 years at Pearl Harbor area as my dad was a cpo in Navy, and then going back to visit, all of those little wild areas are long gone. I saw no boganvilla, no wood rose covered fences and I am sure that is there. It helped me to connect to my parents. Even the monkey pod tree off 5th St. near Block Arena now by some barracks which is still there, when I visited and got on base w/ my friend, the smell reconnected me to my parents, who have been gone since the 1980's. Now my 2 kids are grown up, and I'm retired, but still I would love to just have a little cleaning job and live in a room just about anywhere on the island, and just use a bike to travel. Then at the right time, my children and their kids could visit me. But I have no idea how to make this happen, I see people who want rooms, but I don't know how easy it is to get a room. I used to walk from Holy Family church all the way home on 5th St. near Pearl Harbor Kail, it as quite a walk for a 10 and 11 year old lol. I enjoyed listening to that lady. I learned the uke, and my parents bought me a nice Kamala soprano uke, it had a great sound, I wish I had it.
Hawaiians are like Scandinavians in the way they respect and treasure nature. In Sweden we've got a law called Allemansrätten which means right of public access. "The Right of Public Access", or 'Allemansrätten' as we call it, invites everyone to roam free and explore the beauty of our country. As long as you do not disturb and do not destroy, you are welcome to enjoy nature as much as you want.
Watched again just for algorithms cuz you know I don’t like town.:) matter of fact sometimes I run your channel when I go to work or leave the house and my dog watched you so it increases your RUclips numbers. Haha!
I like grind Rainbow mixed plate lunch but 2 scoops mac salad 1 scoop rice. Wailupe beach park is my favorite park and grind spot. I no can afford Jack Lord kine Kahala but I can dream about it. Mahalo!
The "park and grind" is real! Wailupe is a great P&G spot, for sure. But on a busy work day, I know a lot of us end up P&G'ing in covered parking lots or under that one tree on the side of the street lol
Japan Summer is too hot and humid, is Honolulu Summer anywhere as bad? Also is it true to get bit by centipede is typical at some point in life in Honolulu? Is the bite that bad?
Hawaii summers are no where near as humid as Japan summers. Here, it’s hot but at least there is a breeze and the beach is always close by. Centipede bites hurt! At least from what I hear. I personally have never been bit by one.
Same for the entire island - sand is public land. The point of contention is the land that leads up to the shore. For example, Kahala hotel owns the land right in front of that stretch of beach. However, anyone who parks on Kahala Ave/Waialae beach park and walks to that stretch of beach right in front of the Kahala hotel has the right to set up on the beach and enjoy. The line between public/private is ambiguous but can generally be understood by looking at where is landscaped. For example, in Kahala hotels case, where the nice well-kept grass meets the sand. At other shoreline hotels you can look for signage (the classic "This are is for hotel guest only"), outdoor furniture, ropes in some cases, and often times a combination of plants that serve as a natural barrier. Naupaka is a popular bush barrier.
I don’t have that data and I don’t know if fair housing laws allow for the publication of it. Fair question though. We love it when we are able to help a local family get and or keep their piece of home. I think that’s a fair statement in any area. It’s great to see locals win.

Lovely chat with Auntie Sabrina. Great video! Love the Kahala ‘hood. 🙌♥️👏 Yah, a Waikiki video would be great. Great job, Derek!
Derek, you are a wealth of knowledge. Really enjoyed this video. Great tour and conversation with auntie. Great job!!!
Mahalo Jack!

Aunty took time to share with us 🥰
Great content. I was wondering if you can do a video on the pros and cons of buying raw ag-2 land. Mahalo
I heard that most of houses on Kahala Ave belonged to the Yakuza and sold them all.
Love the Anties
This was totally helpful. I like this area. Reminds me to watch Succession.
Love this series! Always learning so much from these videos. Any plans on a video for Waikiki?
Waikiki is long overdue, for sure. Don’t worry, it’s coming! Promise
Great content!
Mahalo for watching

Does the same go for hotels that have a beach in front of them? Can anyone roll up to the Kahala Hotel and setup on the beach in front of the hotel?

4157 Black Point Rd what a nasty house terrible location.
Terrible views of Maunalua Bay?
@@movingtohawaii There's a one in 302 million chance I could ever afford that sweet house and location.
Hawaiian will be priced out of Hawaii very soon. Sad!!!
