- I've been working with Viltrox lenses for years now and now with the advent of the new 75mm f/1.2 Pro lens, they're really playing hardball. But is it really good enough to play with the big boys? let's find out!

I've been using the Viltrox 75mm on Fuji 40mp for about 4 months. My love for this lens hasn't faded.
I've seen the 75 absolutely shine on the lens devouring XH2 sensor. Blown away by the image quality from the 75.
man this lens has been my favor for ever... I only watch the video to hear you compliment and confirm everything I think about it
💪🏻
Thank you awesome review!
… amazing portrait lens for APSC, great review also. 👍🏻
Thanks for your review, the Viltrox AF 75/1.2 E is really suitable for wedding shootings!
Hi Wes. I enjoy your channel very much. I enjoy the style & presentation of your videos & I find them to be very informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the photographic community. I recently purchased this lens for my Fuji X mount system. I own the Fuji 56mm f1.2 & the 90mm Fuji f2.0. I agree that the Viltrox 75mm f1.2 offers a very good value for its price point. Cheers!😊
Thanks, and enjoy! 👌🏻
Oh my gosh - 8:21!!!!!!!! ❤️
And, then, 9:16!!! Hello, Veronica!!! She’s so cool, Wes!
After a few months of using this on my a6700, I still can't believe this is sold for 500 dollars only. For these kind of specs and performance, SoCaNikon would ask 2500+ euros. I think it's just a matter of time until Viltrox will increase the price of their lenses. Also what I love if the fast that APSC is gaining ground again.
I love this lens, it changed the way i shoot, due to this and other Viltrox 27mm f1.2 I don’t bother with full frame anymore, i sold all my Canon FF. I use these on the Fuji X mount but its the same goodness and results as the Sony as depicted here, in fact i think even better due to the superior color science of the Fuji. My Full Wedding kit is the Viltrox 13mm f1.4, 27mm f1.2, 75mm f1.2 and also some of the Fujis systems, 18mm f1.4 & 56mm f1.2. You can get all the Bokeh you could ever possibly need an APSc today.
yesss, my combo kits Viltrox
13mm, 27mm and 75 mm
the snobbery in our industry is still here , im sure so many will still put this new Viltrox lens down , like they do with all the great Samyang lenses
Here I am with clients who’ve put up billboards I’ve shot with a $150 Chinese manual focus lens 😂
@@WesPerrysamyang manual lens were crazy, especially the 85mm
These two Viltrox Pro series lenses are hard to critque, their built is superior by any standard, better than many of the A brands, so it their performance and character. Snobs will be snobs.
Like the Rokinon, but the green tint I in their lenses piss me off, this lens I just tested tonight, and it has clean colors. These are much better than the rokinon.
@charliewright7274 yeah this one is superlative
Well, the 23mm f1.4 (which my son is currently using) was great but the AF was so-so and the vignette was pretty extreme. It was a great lens for us. The 13mm f1.4 is tremendous so I am not surprised by this lens. Viltrox is a serious contender in third party lenses.
And now they’ve released a Pro 27 1.2 which is apparently also stellar. Not sure if I’ll be able to get my hands on that one.
This Lens replaced my beloves A7 III with 135mm 1.8 Sigma Art lens, and somehow it outperforms the full frame combo - at half the price and half the weight - its insane. The character combined with the Fuji colors and film simulations is such a nice combo that i use less and less time for raw processing, cause the SOOC jpeg's are just sooooo good. I still shoot RAW+JPEG for the archive, but man... i rarely refer to the RAW files anymore, only if there was extreme challenging light and needed further processing.
@4:06 it’s still F1.2 in terms of light. It’s only 1.8 in equivalent depth of field
I just bought the A6700. I can't wait for it to arrive.
Which lenses are you choosing/using along with the A6700
@@Sanket.vjadhav I currently have the 70-350mm Sony, Sigma 18-50mm 2.8, Viltrox 13mm 1.4, a 23mm, 33mm, 56mm all 1.4 from Tokina, and I just ordered the Viltrox 75mm 1.2
Thanks
Great Video Wes... but @ 4:03 " full frame equivalent of a 115mm, 1.8" I think it's still a 1.2.
Have to multiply both numbers.
Yes, it will give you an f/1.2 amount of light on APS-C, but that’s still 1.5x less total light than a full frame f/1.2 lens would land on a larger full frame sensor. Additionally the Look of the bokeh etc is the same as f/1.8 on full frame.
Impressive. However I dislike swirly bokeh. So probably not for me which it is probably not anyway, because I shoot full frame. But it's interesting to see, how good Viltrox has become.
Great review.
Wanted to know if there are any updates on af performance after firmware update 1.0.4 in dec 23 as people say that it was not reliable for fast moving subjects like birds in the very first firmware?
I am in the market for buying one.
I currently have sigma 18-50 f2.8 for my a6700, looking to have a prime now-- confused between sigma 56 f1.4 and the this viltrox 75.
Performance wise 56 seems to be reliable.
Wether sealing, image quality wise viltrox seems better. Also this will add a bigger focal length for my use.
I doubt this will ever be a birds in flight lens, as the AF, though accurate, isn’t super fast. I’ll check my firmware and get back to you.
@@WesPerry yeah that will be great!
I have a R6/Sigma 105 and X-H2/75mm 1.2, Real toss up which rig I like better.
I had a Sony a1. I moved to the XH2. With the new viltrox pro lenses, I no longer feel like I stepped down in glass quality with the switch.
@@berzoidberg3272 There is a clear AF difference between the rigs, the XH2 is very lens dependent on shooting wide open. I have missed way too many shots wide open. I had a couple’s shoot last weekend, using Sigma 18-50. I shot at F5.6 no eye af on and I was happy with it. The 75mm is the only one I feel I can trust wide open.
@@MichaelFrederickPhoto Oh for sure, AF on the fuji doesn't stand a chance against the A1, or really any of sony's current or previous gen lineup. However, I was only addressing lens quality. There are a number of sacrifices you make when moving from one of the big three to Fuji, but for me the benefits have far outweighed them.
I have Viltrox 85mm 1.8 MkII and I was considering this new lens, but the “cat” bokeh is a little to distracting for me.
Yeah it’s definitely not for everyone. The bokeh on the 85 is much more neutral. Just disappears almost magically. Love it.
Since it would be F1.8 full frame equivalent, would the Samyang 75mm 1.8 on a full frame body give the same image quality and bokeh?
Have to do the conversion on both numbers, it would be a 112.5mm f/1.8, so the Viltrox will have greater compression and thus larger bokeh.
Another thing to consider is that a F1.2 full frame and F1.2 APS-C lens lets in the same amount of light, so although the bokeh and focal length will change on an FF equivalent lens the amount of light entering this lens and hitting the sensor, will be far above that of a F1.8 full frame lens.
@@robertmarx7901 the same amount of light per square inch yes, but a greater amount of total area on a full frame camera, so a a greater amount of light in Total is gathered, which results in a proportionately higher iso performance and dynamic range.
@@WesPerry and you just described why we need to move to T-stops :)
@@Vinterloft I don’t make the rules. Haha
Nice review overall. Though I don't really like the idea of comparing it to FF lens when it's not a FF lens. It's an APSC lens and for APSC lens it's insane value because it competes with premium options at $550 which are double the price.
If you want use FF body it doesn't make sense to get this lens. For APSC it's a gem. It was either the Sigma 85 1.4 for me on Sony or this on Fuji and I went this because it's cheaper, has an interesting focal length that I've enjoyed more than 85mm. And it's one of the sharpest lens on X mount.
… I own the a6700 and the a7R V and use the lens on both cameras. Why not? 🤷🏼♂️
@@TW-iu9zy Well you're still using it on APSC lol. If you're on FF it's a weird lens to buy given the FF options unless you really want that 115mm equivalent.
@@MOTOJendays … ah, finally you got it! 😏 So I could use my a6700 with the 16-55 G lens at the same time - and I got the benefits of shooting f1.2 portraits in APSC on my a7R V without changing lenses. Perfect and compact solution if you don’t need the 61 MP of the 135 GM and the 24-70 GM II.
I will often use it in crop mode at dark receptions for speeches. No ones going to blow those pics up huge to print them. I just need a clean shot from a distance with lots of light, and this fits the bill!
My first and only Viltrox the 16mm f1.8 was junk new out of the box and I returned it for a refund. A shocking experience that I’m not going to put myself through again. Sticking with the legit premium brands.
I’ve had four Sony lenses fail on me, and one Viltrox.
So it can unfortunately happen with any brand.
Their last releases are so impressive!
I assume the new 27mm is just as good. This one is far superior to the new 16mm full frame lens, though.
Can’t wait to see them bring this kind of quality to full frame!
