What's wrong with their lens coatings? seems to me their later batch of lenses have excellent CA control, what more do we need? this 'pro' line, the 13mm and now the 75 are already surpassing those other third party manufacturers
@@Cagey7531 Coatings help control flair (and can improve contrast), they do not affect CA. Viltrox lenses have not had the best flair performance, ergo they need to improve their coatings.

But I worry sometimes that the copy variation might be too great and I’ll end up with one that doesn’t quite match the quality of the one I currently have haha. Extraordinary. I've found my Fuji portrait lens. I'm sure I'm not alone in prefering >85mm equivalent lenses for portraits. This is probably about equivalent to a 112 f2 in terms of field of view and depth of field. For less than $600? With pro Fuji/Canon image quality? _And_ autofocus? Just fantastic.

But I'd like more subject isolation than f/2.8... When's the 27mm f/1.2 meant to come out?
thank You for the review!! this or SAMYANG F2.0 135mm? i don't care much about AF. 135mm is quite tighter, but i think it can also focus closer, which is important for me
The viltrox 85mm f/1.8 for Fuji is already very impressive compared to the price, even more so considering there is a lot of 85mm lenses on the used market while this 75mm is brand new This might prove to be the only problem for that lens, it's extremely good but not enough of a difference with the already sharp and budget friendly 85mm f/1.8 that you can find for half the price
The 85mm f1.8 is a full frame lens ported to APS-C, it better be sharp since you're not using the edges of the image circle. But Viltrox have come a long way in lens coatings and optics since then still
I have the 85mm f1.8, it's a big lens but quality is reasonable for the price. Although a bugbear I have with the lens is the handling, when trying to pick it up out of my camers bag, I find it a bit slippery, due to its all metal construction, especially when you're fingers are cold.
Have their 13 1.4 which whilst not ‘pro’ spec is simply superb. The 75 is really interesting. I believe the AF was improved by a firmware upgrade. I’d love a Viltrox 23 1.4 pro lens - Viltrox my money is waiting !!
When I first heard about this lens I was really excited. This review reassures my excitement and now I am considering selling my Viltrox 85 1.8 for this lens. Accept from the bad chromatic aberration and slow autofocus the 85 is awesome. A real bang for the buck. I mainly shoot portrait and dirt bike racing photos. Do y'all think upgrading will be worth it considering the better image quality on the 75mm and also considering I don't need the extra 10mm of focal range? Plus the af on the 85mm makes shooting dirt bikes a real challenge.
I will update immediately then. I haven't looked into new Viltrox firmware updates for a while and so my lens is still running on 1.0.9. Viltrox themselves say the new update is supposed to improve AF-C speed. I updated the firmware and it seems to acquire the subject a little bit faster. I can't look out for further improvements especially with moving targets, but will soon.
Hola Chris. Como responde este lente Viltrox 75 mm para astrofotografía? Tiene un efecto coma acusado? Muchas gracias por todas tus videos rewiew, son interesantísimos.
Impressive IQ really. But Viltrox and their long MFDs / small magnification ratios. Every single lens they made are like that - the magnification ratio never exceeds 0.1x. I'm not asking for macro levels but even 0.2x or 0.15x would be a lot more useful. I never understood why since I'm no optics engineer, but this must where they cut cost (the focus group) to achieve the price point. A shorter mfd, maybe 60cm instead of 90cm on a 75mm, would have convinced me to buy one.
Man… this looks great, and I was really hoping it would be the one to get, but I just can’t get on board with substantial focus breathing anymore. It feels like a huge cut corner when so many new lenses, even others from viltrox, have opted to design optics to reduce/remove it entirely. Especially in the age of vastly improved video autofocus from newer cameras. Oh well…
this is amazing, i wish it also had same performance in f8+ as it have on f 1.2/ it is excellent in f1.2 which all other competitors lag! and it get a little soft when others improve! but i love to see it comes to sony and fix this issue and im sure it will become top tear choice for photographers
for apsc. its easier to get great larger than 35 lens, much harder to get lower than 35 (including 35) i just bought xt30 for its compactness. for the lens i can just get sigma 10-18/2.8 and 23mm lens. for 35 i got milvus 35/2 and for 50 i can just use my afd and milvus 50/1.4
I struggle to figure out when to use this focal length, I have the Viltrox 56mm F1.4 and even on that one, I barely ever use it, even for portraits, you have to be quite far back, I prefer using the 33mm.
Again... it's really odd, but Fuji and Viltrox lenses on this XH2 seem too be showing better sharpness than the same tests on full frame sensors with even more MPs. Can you confirm whether this is just a video codec anomaly or is actually the case, Sir?
I too was really, really impressed with this lens. I'm glad you've enjoyed it as well, Chris.

The best I've got is a 35 1.8 and a 65 f2
@@trustnugget280 are those full-frame lenses? F/1.2 on APS-C is equivalent to f/1.8 on full-frame.
Get in close with the 65mm f/2 and you'll get similar results.
@@neilr7935 I know. 65mm @f2 is sufficient when you get closer but it doesnt quite give you that portrait look
@@neilr7935 f1.2 on APS-C is equivalent to f1.2 on full frame. What you mean is that bokeh at f1.2 looks the same as f1.8 on full frame as long as the distance to the subject changes to match the field of view, that's the only difference.
@@neilr7935 No, as the Viltrox 75mm 1,2 is a 112,5 mm 1,8 equ. lens on fullframe.
Can't wait for the Z mount version. Will upgrade from my Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 in a heart beat
I will keep mine because of size.
Never been a viltrox fan until the 13 1.4 came out.... And now this "must have" lens... It's making me reconsider the other lenses that they offer.
Y u do dis 2 me?
Now Viltrox need to update the trio (23, 33, and 56mm) so they have the clicked aperture, and comparable IQ to their two latest releases.
I don't know if u have their 13mm f1.4, but that one is amazing!
@@svetlanagrobman3476 haven't got the chance, but really looking forward to!
@@svetlanagrobman3476 Yes the newer 13mm 1,4 is great, but the 23,33,56 lenses are older and not that good. So i really would like to see an update on these.
@@muttishelfer9122 I agree with u. In fact, I sold my 23 and 56. I never had 33.
Absolute beast of a lens. Admittedly only used once on a shoot, but super impressive all around. Image quality,, build as good, if not better than some of Fuji's already impressive X lenses. On par with the 13mm 1.4 for sure! Bokeh monster, fast prime for low light shooting at a focal range gap for fuji primes. Winner so far!
Just found it at $499 usd (shipping included) in the aliexpress viltrox official store, so I couldn't resist to order it. I'm really excited to start using it.
Wow.. If I didn't have the fantastic Fuji 90 f2 this would be an immediate buy
Me too!! Im in love with the 90mmF2
I have and absolutely love the 90 but... GAS... 😣
@@kzr83 LOL.. I just eased my GAS by buying a Sigma 56 1.4, which I really don't NEED NEED, but like new for $300 was irresistible and a different enough FL from the 90 to justify, at least in my mind, the acquisition .. eagerly awaiting the 27 1.2 Viltrox has coming out.. just because I have a 23 and a 33 doesn't mean I don't need a 27 right.. right?
@@JungleCatImages I was either unaware or had forgotten about the 27mm f/1.2 😱
I love that field of view. I have a 40mm Konica film lens so this would be the same as that. I love 23mm on Fujifilm but often find it a tad wide, and 33/35 is wonderful too but often a bit long. I think if I could pick only 1 focal length for Fuji it would be 27mm. But I'd like more subject isolation than f/2.8...
When's the 27mm f/1.2 meant to come out?
@@kzr83 Fuji Rumors posted the other day that it will be coming in August
This is brilliant corner sharpness for an f1.2 shot at f1.2.
afc on the new 56mm 1.2 is disappointing, I was really excited to see how this would do in afc.. i love the 56 otherwise. thanks for a great vid mate
Thanks for this review! Superb performance for the price.
This is the sharpest lens at f/1.2 I've seen. Also the best performer out of any lens under $1000. I just wish to know more about its bokeh quality.
I own it and use it with a Sony a6700. It's a bokeh monster, creamy all the way. The best portrait lens I ever owned in 14 years of photography.
thank You for the review!!
this or SAMYANG F2.0 135mm? i don't care much about AF. 135mm is quite tighter, but i think it can also focus closer, which is important for me
Amazing lens. Can't wait to get it when the Z mount version arrives next year.
Had mine for a week now and it's wonderful. May even displace the Fuji 33mm as my favourite x-mount lens.
La qualité de l'ouverture à 1.2 est inimaginable, ils t'ont envoyé sûrement une version améliorer spécialement pour le test
Wow! If this lens is as good as it looks, it could be a great choice for a portrait photographer (like me) who is just starting out.
It's even better than it looks. Insane sharpness directly from F1.2, I own it and use it with a sony a6700.
The viltrox 85mm f/1.8 for Fuji is already very impressive compared to the price, even more so considering there is a lot of 85mm lenses on the used market while this 75mm is brand new
This might prove to be the only problem for that lens, it's extremely good but not enough of a difference with the already sharp and budget friendly 85mm f/1.8 that you can find for half the price
Fuji users will upgrade just for the aperture ring.
@@djbowlz2128 and weather sealing is a welcomed bonus!
This is much better though. Low to none LoCA at all
The 85mm f1.8 is a full frame lens ported to APS-C, it better be sharp since you're not using the edges of the image circle. But Viltrox have come a long way in lens coatings and optics since then still
another great lens from viltrox! 🔥
2:07 ah yes, Crystal Pepsi - my favourite bird
I have the 85mm f1.8, it's a big lens but quality is reasonable for the price. Although a bugbear I have with the lens is the handling, when trying to pick it up out of my camers bag, I find it a bit slippery, due to its all metal construction, especially when you're fingers are cold.
WOW. not even Color Fringing. What a Milestone this Lens is, extrem sharp to the corners, wow.
That lens at 1.2 is actually a MONSTER
If money were no object and you could only get one for stills portraits, would you choose the xf 56mm f1.2 mk ii lens or the Viltrox 75mm f1.2?
Ok. I will skip new fuji 56 and wait for this lens :D
That lens seems very interesting indeed!
We need an e-mount version of this bad boy
Impressive! Is there for e-mount?
What the h.... viltrox made some miracle here, hope that it will go for sony E too, it's insta buy lens!
Have their 13 1.4 which whilst not ‘pro’ spec is simply superb. The 75 is really interesting. I believe the AF was improved by a firmware upgrade. I’d love a Viltrox 23 1.4 pro lens - Viltrox my money is waiting !!
Great review, thank you for that!
I know I'm selling mine 😌
Did you do the recent update on the lens?? My 85mm AF was slow too and since the new update it's a lot faster !!
The update might fix these issues??
Great video. How does it compare to the Fujinon 90mm f2? Would you buy a second hand fujinon 90mm or this new Viltrox 75mm? Thank you
Better AF for video and longer focal length - 90mm. Brighter, cheaper, shorter focal length - 75mm. 75mm is more versatile focal length overall.
Also the 90mm has a shorter minimum focusing distance of 60cm (vs 88cm)
Do you ever get to keep the lenses? If so, you must have a collection then?
Great review looks like an amazing Lent I wish they made it in Canon rf mount. Hopefully one day
Wanted this one for a while but ordered it finally for my birthday 🎉😂
Hola Chris.
Como responde este lente Viltrox 75 mm para astrofotografía?
Tiene un efecto coma acusado?
Muchas gracias por todas tus videos rewiew, son interesantísimos.
wow insane corner sharpness even at f1.2
I predict soon we will see other Pro series lenses by Viltrox and folly updated line of standard lenses too - 23, 33 and 56mm...
Impressive IQ really. But
Viltrox and their long MFDs / small magnification ratios.
A shorter mfd, maybe 60cm instead of 90cm on a 75mm, would have convinced me to buy one.
need that one for my Zfc... please viltrox ^^
Coming in 2023. Sony E mount and Nikon Z mount
Oh well…
It was announced for Sony too
Excellent video 😊!
Very good review...as always.
Άριστος!!!!!
They’re up to version 1.05 firmware on this now (Aug 24)
Eagerly waiting for the improved auto focus and more updated version in nikon z
this is amazing, i wish it also had same performance in f8+ as it have on f 1.2/ it is excellent in f1.2 which all other competitors lag! and it get a little soft when others improve! but i love to see it comes to sony and fix this issue and im sure it will become top tear choice for photographers
Can you cover the new firmware, if it fixes the autofocus as this is one of the best viltrox lenses and i would love to be sure before i buy
for apsc. its easier to get great larger than 35 lens, much harder to get lower than 35 (including 35) i just bought xt30 for its compactness. for the lens i can just get sigma 10-18/2.8 and 23mm lens. for 35 i got milvus 35/2 and for 50 i can just use my afd and milvus 50/1.4
Hold up I’ve been looking for this lens to no avail! Is it out already or not???
