Good enough is never good enough, always experience a mic and upgrade whenever you can afford to. Me personally I purchase a new mic every 2-3 years. Never get complacent with any piece of studio equipment but don’t go broke trying to keep up with trends and hype.
Correction from the begging: the clip of Justin Bieber is using the Blue Bottle (6 grand). The Blue Kiwi is a solid mic though! I believe Charlie Puth said he recorded his whole first album on it
The choice of microphones now is amazing. "budget" microphones sound amazing compared to decades ago. There is still a reason why others cost 1000's and it isn't entirely the name (but you do pay for that).
I produce music like everyone else watching this video. The difference in sound quality is ministuel, but that very slight change in tone could easily be accounted for in DAW with some simple EQ and compression. Unless you're already making a nice amount of cash off your music, save your money. You're better off spending the extra cash on vocal VSTs.
I have a spark blackout edition like the one in the video. The build quality does NOT hold up. The wires inside are super thin and have connection issues. The little plastic tabs for the option on the front eventually degrade and break off. The good news is there is a red plastic pole underneath them that can still somewhat be used to move the switches. The top turns after the glue weakens as well and the XLR jack becomes loose. This is from normal studio use where it is barely moved. Degradation occurred simply from around 2 years of minimal use. Bought a Rode podmic for 1/3 of the price and that thing has been rock solid and incredibly built. Maybe a blue yeti dong mic is fine or it's companion snowballs, but the mid level blue mics I feel are a bit scammy. Better options for the price if you need an XLR mic.
Blue spark sl - had a compressed the sound a little bit, I've use it in video games with friends and you can get pretty good sound at this price point, but imao there is better mics at the same price from company Lewitt. Blue kiwi - has a more clear sound to perfect vocal. There is a lot microphone in the market that good enough like the kiwi such as AKG C414 powerfull horses series🥵, Souz 023❤, Warm Audio, Audio Technica, Auatian Audio OC 818, Sony C-100, Sennheiser MK8🎻 (don't forget about Neumann, like the U87). But if you came to find the better one in all of them, you should take your eyes on the legendary Sony C800🤑.
Hey, Love the video & thank you so much for the information, I have the blue kiwi Mic, I am trying to look for a good mic arm that will hold it, I am scared of getting one that wont hold it, the one on your video is no longer available. Any recommendations that will be versatile but also doesn't break the pocket.
@@liamoliver6119 what's the relationship between having a degree in music and being a good sound engineer? I can tell you this kiwi sounds infinitely better than the other one. it's obvious that you make music but that you've never mixed on major label albums. it's weird we don't find spark microphones on pro projects, but I can tell you that the kiwi in the 2010s was very, very, very much used in pro studios, a little less so today. we're not talking about your home studio with your KRKs and your focusrite scarlett.
@EdwardSmithMusic I hate to disturb, but as far as body resonance, Would you happen to have any input on how it handles vibrations or other contact? It looked fairly hollow, but the enclosure and size within the microphone gives me a little hope that it shouldn't be too terrible, no?
Biggest difference I can notice would be in the low and in the mids to the benefit of the kiwi. I do love the spark tho. Cut a lotta records w/ the spark in my day
Hey boss quick question, so those shock mounts both came with the mics themselves right? Were they about the same size or was the one for the spark smaller
@@EdwardSmithMusic sure ^^ I love your content, you're so fun to watch and you help us without that much money to find products that maybe we are convinced we need to spend THOUSANDS for good things, when a 50 dollar one sounds just fine, you are a legend, you need to be more popular. Do you have your own music? I love your voice.
Naw, there is barely a difference even with phones on. The Kiwi has a TAD bit more warmth/low...but I mean a TAD. I recorded a song/music vid with Blue Spark (original orange color) and it sounded fine. Not worth the extra $$$ unless you need a big mic to stand in front of. 🤣

I seriously love how short your videos are. No 10 minutes of BS. Just straight to the point. Amazing.
Thank you for watching!!
I must say I was confused of the shortness. Did not expect it.

I never knew how much I needed to see this comparison. Keep the videos coming Ed, love from South Africa.
Thank you for watching!! 🙏🏻

I love the Blue Spark because it gives an Analog feel old school type Hip Hop
I have the blue kiwi for a long time, with a 1073 preamp and it s really really great

It's so sad that Blue is no more. I've got a bunch of their mics. Love them.

LIAR!!!
I don't produce music xD
I'm wanting the shock mount specifically but I can't find it anywhere for my older kiwi. Awesome vid!
Your editing paid off. Subbed

Both microphones sounded great.
Listening with your eyes closed, you can hardly tell the difference
Dope content as usual
Appreciate it!

I think both really good tbh
Good Day. Pls I'd like to ask, what is the Cheapest USB mic that u'll advice someone to buy?
Im about to upgrade. Is the blue spark SL is way better than at2020?
Yes by miles
I really wanna know where you can buy that shock mount of the Kiwi???

It looked fairly hollow, but the enclosure and size within the microphone gives me a little hope that it shouldn't be too terrible, no?
Can you buy the shock mount separately ? I had a completely differen shock mount.
i hear the differ. but its the same cause the $70 blue sounds good
Biggest difference I can notice would be in the low and in the mids to the benefit of the kiwi. I do love the spark tho. Cut a lotta records w/ the spark in my day
Do you need a lot of dresser with it ?
Great video as always! 🙌🏽
What’s your vocal chain here?

I love my Blue Reactor
There’s and absolute difference
Hello Edward, would you recommend me buying Volt 1 or 2? When is it worth it to have to input channels??
P.s love your channel, you’ve got a new follower from Spain 🫶🏻
te sirven 2 entradas si por ejemplo querés grabar guitarra en stereo o guitarra en mono y un micrófono
i contacted sweetwater and I plan on buying a mic from them and gave them your name :)
Thanks so much man!!
