- Stuart is back with a flight demo but this time on the well-known Volantex 759-1 ASW28 V2 (PNF) Electric Sailplane EPO/Plastic 2540mm. So sit back and enjoy a fun, comfy RC flight demo in our favorite airfield in the Netherlands!
The full-scale ASW 28 is a Standard Class glider with a fifteen-meter span built of modern fiber-reinforced composites. The manufacturer of the ASW-28 is Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The "W" indicates this is designed by the influential and prolific German designer Gerhard Waibel. Serial production started in 2000.

As with all Standard Class sailplanes, the ASW-28 does not have flaps or other lift-enhancing devices. It has tall winglets, retractable landing gear, and a water ballast system. The structure is a complex composite of carbon, aramid, and polyethylene fiber-reinforced plastic. This permits a light structure with the strength to carry large amounts of water ballast, thus permitting the widest possible range of wing loadings for weak and strong soaring weather.
The Volantex ASW 28 is a sport-scale model that does incorporate flaps, unlike its full-scale counterpart. It comes plug and fly so you just need to complete some final assembly, install your battery, receiver, and fly. The airframe is a mix of EPO foam for the wings and tail, with a blow-molded plastic fuselage. This gives a slick finish that is also extremely durable. Great for those less-than-perfect slope sites. A recent addition to the ASW 28 is a more powerful 4018-1050kV brushless outrunner motor that rockets the ASW 28 to altitude, then when you throttle down, the propeller folds back for extended soaring. Accessing the battery is easy through the canopy with four small snap locks that keeps the canopy secure.
Version 2 comes with lots of extra features. The wings come with two spars in each wing to give extra strength during those tight turns and power dives and the servos have also been upgraded to a more powerful type. Installing the wings is now easier with a plastic latch for securing the wings. Inside there is now a bigger plywood tray to make it easier to carry FPV cameras, VTx's, or other electronics. Landings are now a lot easier with the inclusion of landing gear. No more scraping the fuselage.
Features:
• Plug and Fly - Just install your own battery, transmitter, and receiver
• Ultra-durable blow-molded plastic fuselage
• EPO foam molded wings and tail
• All servos, including flaps come pre-installed
• Easy removal canopy/battery hatch with pilot figure
• Upgraded 4018-1050kv brushless motor with a folding propeller installed

I like that you still talk about your older model offerings. It shows you guys really do back the products you sell. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
I used to fly RC sailplanes, from 2m Gentle Ladys to 4m scale monsters. All were winched or launched by a high-start. That' was the fun of it; staying aloft and soaring! Just got back into RC and kinda like this simple little thing but no reviews demonstrate the engine off soaring capabilities. All show how fast or slow it will go with the engine running but that should be the least of it's characteristics. Engine should only be used to attain a thermalling altitude.
I completely agree. i just bought one..and finding content on how it glides is almost non existent
Stuart is one of my favorite RC pilots and i have also bought a few models based on his rc plane reviews
Love this plane!! The glide ability is awesome and relaxing, however the speed and agility is a bonus with this baby, great video Stuart, thanks for sharing 👊🏼
It really is!
I have "almost" bought this model about a dozen times. Guess it's time to pull the trigger. Nice review Stuart.
Very nice Stuart! I love a good powered glider, and that one is scale. Win win!
Thanks 👍
whispering death.... never heard that one before. great video yall!
Been waiting patiently for it to be restocked in the US warehouse :-)
Apologies for the delay but US customers can also order from the EU warehouse now, albeit with higher shipping
Bought two. Great thermal riders and the complete package for me.
Glad you like them!
Another really good looking plane Hobby King and Stu. Good job.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video overview: just ordered one.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have the ASW 28 with 2 cam FPV (one in the tail and one in the cockpit) Together with a 5000 3s lipo, I can easely soar for an hour... love this plane. Just make sure you reinforce the hinge of the rudder...
What is the range of your model aircraft? Both the plane and the cameras?
@@herbertnatanael I use the motor to gain hight and search for thermals. Did not go any further then 3 km, it does not have a high speed to counter headwind on higher altitudes.
What camera do you use? I'm looking for one to put on mine
@@ODGuitars I had a
Runcam Split in the tail and a cheap cam on a servo in the cockpit
she looks great!!
This is a great model airplane to do fpv, I plan to have it someday to make some cool modifications.
Go for it!
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Will these ever be in stock in again for the USA warehouse? If they were I would buy one tomorrow…
I started with the Ranger then got the Ascent from hobby king. Both are still intact and on the original servos. Had an issue with the wing clips but other than that been great planes for the money especially
Thanks for sharing
Very nice demo!. I have the same one. Question: where did you put the battery? I have to put my 3S Rhino 2200mAh on top of the main spar to get the CG correct and add 30grams weight.
Read blitz's comment above👆
Oh I should have mentioned, I added a bit of weight to the tail, maybe 60g of stock on weights, but that’s a non issue and easy hassle free fix. Then just put the 2200 3s in the tray as intended.
Try advising Volantex to insert 'fix's when they become known in the craft's newer user booklet Or place somewhere on their webbie...if it's active...thks Stu!😎🇺🇸🇸🇰🇩🇪🇬🇧🇨🇦🇦🇹🇪🇬🇵🇾🇦🇺🇦🇨🇦🇮🇨🇵🇧🇻🇧🇪
Did you have to do any modifications to it? I'm looking at this one, or an FMS fox 2300mm
I always thought HK was dropping the ball a little bit because they didnt advertise the Volantex glider line. always liked the look of the 28 and there is a lot of info about it out there for support. You can really set up your transmitter with all the custom wing types to get the best gliding experience out of them. Volantex makes a whole bunch of really cool gliders/
too bad you can't get parts from volantex
Great model APART from the woeful canopy attachment ,every single one I've replaced has broken the canopy when removing it, the studs just crack the paper thin plastic, I use Velcro to attach mine.(top tip)
I have this sailplane it's great. I had to remove some of the foam in front of the front wheel to get CG correct if using the 2200 lipo and I had to remove the pilot cockpit to get it on cg. I might try with another type of lipo 2200 and keep my pilot. Japanese pilots called the F4U Corsair Whistling Death due to the sound made by wind blowing through the cowl flaps on the big radial engine cowling. Saw one today at an airshow.
Was it the cowl flaps, or the radiators in the wing that made the whistle
Beautiful plane and great bang for the buck but comes nose heavy. We had to remove the pilot to CG with a 2200mah 3S.
Ditto! Same here
Are the wings easy-on easy-off? Thanks.
nice flying thx.
Hardstikke mooie video Stuard! Ik heb er 7 gekocht bij HK. De 2000 de 2400 en de ASK.
11:25 I wonder what's making that noise. Might try to use some speed tape to cover any gaps.
Where is this field? Those big eletric poles, its seems its close to Zoetermeer or Pijnacker?
HLC
A demo on how the wings can be disassembled would have been handy.
@@scott9141 Nice , thanks.
I’m thinking of getting this to fly some long range
👍👍👍
a combien a tu fais le cg mercie
Please comment about the battery placement and the CG adjustment, because they are saying that they have to remove the pilot and i saw that you have the pilot in your video, make a video about what you did, thank you..I just bought one and did not want to remove anything unless necessary. Need the comments..
just add 60g of lead weight to the tail and you can then place the 2200mag 3S where it is meant to be and keep the pilot.
@@HobbyKingOfficial Do you have a photo of where did you placed the lead, I want to hit the same spot. Thanks or the response...
@@hectorcastro7978 Hello, no photo but just put it under the horizontal tail, in the center of it, either side of the vertical.
@@HobbyKingOfficial Got it !! Thank you

Used to buy a lot of stuff from hobbyking but now it's not feasible anymore as they have shut the uk warehouse. Postage from global is way too high.
My one is old, but the price was 105 € in Europe....
love all the volantex range ,unfortunately live in the uk so shipping is out of my price range now 😢😢
We will improve the UK shipping rates once we get the Volantex restocked in the HK warehouse
@@HobbyKingOfficial that's what was said many months ago but still more to ship to the UK than the model costs. Until this changes I certainly will not be buying from hobbyking.
👌👌✔✔
don't buy it, you can't get parts, I just got it, flew it a few times, a wing tip fell off and that's it, nothing I can do with it now, waste of money
I don't hear much 'gliding' happening here...lol
First Babyyyyyy
You've been very old in the past few years.
shipping overseas from China warehouse is insultingly expensive. Just by the cost of shipping I can buy another plane alone! No one here on my flying club is buying from Hobbyking anymore (we use to place orders over 400 USD a month!!!).
Sorry to hear that. We are working on improving our shipping rates. You can also purchase from the US warehouse if you are from Latin America.
Costomer service stinks, never parts avialible always on backorder
