Well explained. Any one who wants to understand karljic matrix and listened very well to your well defined based on example, should be able to write more when it come in exam. Not only exam but also procurement officials will get advantage from it and apply with procurement strategy of buying goods or services. It is also important for procurement members to classify suppliers when they're developing procurement strategy in the market. Who will most important or complexity. For me, I got good concept and hope it will cover my upcoming exam. Match appreciated.

It is also interesting to see how this model made 30 years ago can still survive in this globalized, so much digitalized and with so many changes in geopolitics. Also I notice in the end this is also depends on each companies decisions.
@Juan Mata. Thanks for your kind feedback. You're right. The model is just as valid today as it was 30 years ago. Maybe even more so, as some companies have forgotten that the distribution channels must not become too complicated when it comes to goods where there are no alternative suppliers.
yes the world is dynamic, but that is the point of kraljics portfolio, to analyze the importance of every product you buy, and that will depend on each company, thats why is dificult but the kraljic matrix is flawless.

There has been a general shortage of raw materials in the world. Therefore, some products are moving around in the model. Today I will place computer chips for cars in strategic goods in the model. That may change. The model is not static. Hope you can use the answer.
You might be able to place it in both places. Computer chips in electric cars as strategic goods and chips in conventional cars as bottlenecks. They say that an electric car (TESLA) is actually a computer with 4 wheels. Otherwise, you can use metals that are in short supply worldwide as examples of bottlenecks. Hope you can use the answer.
In short Yes! The model here is based on an article in the Harvard Business Review, September-October edition 1983 written by Peter Kraljic. The title of the article was "Purchasing must become Supply Management". Later there are many others who have further developed on the model and now all of these models are called supply positioning models. Be aware of the axles of the models, some have changed the names and position of the axles.
