Such a weird yet dope spot!! Love your content Matt - you’re actually one of my fav RUclipsrs. My fav content is your videos covering Oregon’s geologic history - but these “weird and cool” explorations of “off the beaten path” Oregon gems is great too! Have you done a video on the Painted Hills? Maybe down the road you could make a compilation of the best hot springs you’ve discovered.
@@davec9244 I do want to visit Kah-Nee-Ta. Maybe could get them interested in me making a video for them. I usually just make nature videos and whenever theres a bunch of people in the shots it doesn't feel right to me.
@@Ryanpevans Thank you Ryan. I did a John Day monument trilogy, Painted hills was the worst one but it was ok and the other two were really good. More geology stuff should be easy with lots of options. Hot springs would be popular, but also I hate filming with crowds around, would need to pick some nasty weather weekdays to visit haha.
I visited in the mid 60's as a child and have never forgotten the incredible artistry. In particular there was one piece of clear green obsydian with white inclusions, mounted over a door in the gift shop. In the decades since I've not seen it's like. Happy to hear the garden is being preserved.
I want there several times while growing up during the 60s and 70s. If I remember correctly, it closed for quite a while. It sounds like it's being re-opened a little at a time.
I visited here in 1974 right after graduating from high school. As an avid amateur photographer, I took many photos of the place. But the one I still have in my collection is a close-up of the Statue of Liberty taken from the perspective of the gray figue towering over one's head and a blue sky for a backdrop. Those trees are much taller now, lol! Thanks for the video, Matt!
This brought back wonderful memories! I grew up 20 miles or so from this place and our whole family loved it. It was the number one place to take visiting relatives and friends. I took some Japanese college friends there in the '80's and it was losing some of its charm. But they thought it was great. I'm glad someone has taken it under their wing. Thanks for the smile!
Next time I am out that way I will check it out and make a donation for the future restoration! Seeing your girls together exploring reminds me of my sister and I growing up. We are in our 70's and still exploring nature's treasures. Love your videos. Thx😊
I visited this garden back in the 1980's while participating in a BMW motorcycle rally. I'm afraid I didn't spend the time there that it deserved since we were on a schedule. I've always wanted to go back though. Thanks for the motivating video!
The Statue of Liberty carved from a bolder! This is one of americas greatest works of art! This whole place is, and I had never heard of it. Every stone is special, every part of it is Amazing! The land and gardens are spectacular!
My love of rocks must come from visiting here as a child. Makes me wonder how many people he gave the love of pretty rocks. Thank you for sharing this. 🥰
In the 1960's and 70's my family used to spend a lot of our vacation time in the Redmond, Sisters and Bend area. Going to the Peterson's Rock Garden was always a favorite thing on the list for us kids, it's good to see that it is still open for the public even though it is in need of repairs.
Thanks for the share, Matt. Never been there myself but inherited some 8mm film of it from my grandparents. They are b&w silents from around the original opening in the 30's. Too cool to see the modern version of the same place.
Matt, I must say that grabbed my heart, old buddy. For me, it's a must-see, thank you man! I'm sharing this video of course and absolutely will make it a point to both visit there and donate generously, you can be sure of that. This video is special, and you're giving back by having made it. Blessings to the the Family Pal & take Care, ... M.
A really nice video. Your girls are growing up. We kind of survived our Oregon but tested positive for COVID on returning home. Didn’t get to Haystack Rock, but Port Orford, Sisters, and Secret Beach were great. Stay safe and hava great holidays.😀👍
Visited in 1986 on our honeymoon, still with the same girl Stink I'm almost house broke Enjoyed it then - defiantly worth the detour of classic roadside attractions
We visited the first weekend in August this year.. it was so bloody hot as the heat radiated off the ground. It looked unique, cool and abandoned. Everything was dead and dry. The peacocks are still there. the boats are gone except one.. go in the museum and look at the photographs of what it used to look like. The boy at the desk was mistaken about its origin date which was a bummer. Leave a donation in the box...
What do you guys want to see next?

The Prehistoric Gardens near Port Orford. Loved this place as a child. Big dinosaurs in a rainforest. A perfect setting.
I was there in the 60's, it was quite lovely then.

I have to admit I was completely unaware of this place. Really cool and nice videography, enjoyed this very much.

there needs to be a massive fund raiser to restore this place. It's amazing - I can't wait to visit

Nice to hear that is slowly being restored. It must have been in the 60's when I was there as a kid and we took our kids there in the early 90's
See? I knew you'd do a better job than I did. I really enjoyed this!

Such a beautiful and fascinating place which I never knew about. I love the castles and hope they remain for many years to come. 👍🏻

Been there in the late 1970's when my uncle and aunt lived in Redmond oregon.
There used to be a place called the "Funny Farm" that was a very interesting place to go.
I never knew......
