Thanks, savariaxa. The Nightfly is one of my alltime favorite albums, too. Unfortunately, my video for Donald Fagen was blocked worldwide as soon as I uploaded it. That’s a shame, as I’d planned to feature his solo material in addition to Steely Dan.

Donald Fagan had some awesome Solo albums. Some of the songs from them are, Nightfly, New Frontier, IGY, Snowbound, The Dunes, Mona, Morph The Cat, to name a few. All are super lit! Can't wait to hear what people vote on is the best for each Saturday!✌️

I absolutely LOVE "True Companion." It should have been included on The Nightfly, in my opinion.

Although I used to be a heavy metal fan (maybe I still am), this song was so fascinating to me from the first moment. There is some drama, tension and relief that I like so much.

Here are the credits for "True Companion" I pulled from the book "Steely Dan FAQ":
Donald Fagen - electric piano, synthesizer, kalimba, vocals, backing vocals
    Zack Sanders - backing vocals
    Ed Walsh - synthesizer
    Steve Jordan - drums
    Will Lee - bass
Steve Khan - lead guitar, acoustic guitar
    Don Grolnick - Fender Rhodes
    Errol "Crusher" Bennett - percussion
I highly recommend the book "Steely Dan FAQ" for more info on the band. Most of these guys had already worked on previous Steely Dan albums and would work with Fagen on his solo album "The Nightfly". I appreciate your reaction videos. You give great information and insight into the bands. Thanks and subscribed!

Yes! Great info - thanks for posting that, Michael. Steve Khan always kills it, right on cue. I had not heard of the SD FAQ...but will check it out! Thanks again!

This is one of my favorite Fagen songs, and for sure my favorite Steve Jordan track. Thanks for doing this.

That long instrumental intro was not the only thing that endeared me to this song...when they finally got to the lyrics, it was whom I assumed to be the captain of this ship giving a speech to his crew...a speech that was left incomplete! This intrigued me. So much so, I tried to write my own story about why he never finished that speech! It still sits in my files and I have been writing on it since the late 90s!

Interesting. I felt that it was a combination of a very brief speech given to a crew of starship by its captain which then became an internal reflection on dreams and aspirations right after the start of "just beyond the troubled skyways...."

Steve Kahn plays guitar like a boss on this track. I was buying his solo stuff back then. This album takes me back.

Too bad you apparently never saw the movie, or read the "Heavy Metal" comic books, you'd understand much more about the song. The magazine was a collection of stories by Europe's most progressive artists and writers, including H.R. Giger, of "Alien" fame, Jean "Moebius" Giraud, and Richard Corbin's "Den". The movie (which was much the same type of collection of stories by Heavy Metal artists) was just as compelling as was the music that was the soundtrack.

I agree! Unfortunately, my Donald Fagen video was immediately blocked worldwide when I tried to upload it. Looks like I’ll have to stick to Steely Dan.
