The Dramatics personnel on this track and album was William "WeeGee" Howard on lead, Ron Banks on falsetto co-lead, Larry Demps, Willie Ford and Elbert Wilkins! They are one of my favorite groups of all time! As a Philadelphian, I can attest to the similarity to the Philly sound. I think it boils down to the vocals, production and musicianship! This classic will always be in my playlist!

Dearest you must be very young to confuse them with the Tempts. All of them can sing and dance equally as well. Not all of the Temptations were equally as talented. Temptations fans dont come after me. David Ruffin, by the way, is my favorite singer, and he was hotter than fire,, but so are the Dramatics.

You're spot on about the group and the song. Now that I think about it (triggered by your thoughts), it seems like the R&B groups from Detroit on down into Ohio seemed to bring it bigger, badder, harder than groups from other areas, back in the 70's decade. Organic and innovative, like you say.

It isn't "Philly soul". Guitarist Brian Lawson, Bassist Reggie McBride, Drummer Norman Perry were all from the Detroit suburb of Inkster, Michigan. Ron Banks, Larry Reed, Vamp Wilkins and Squirrel Demps and LJ Reynolds were all from Pershing High School in Detroit. Ego struggles between Banks and LJ Reynolds as to who was the leader, lead to a split in 1980. Now if you want a real music shock, check out the song "Does your mama know about me", sung by Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers, and written by THE Tommy Chong, before his "Cheech and Chong" career.
