Thanks for referencing the Arduino library and the author.
Thank you for all your work on this project!..
The last firmware release (V3.0.7F) has Automatic Volume Control (AVC).
@@pu2clr Thank you for the update!... i have send my radio back to Ali, because HF was not working, but new is on its way from BangGood and for sure i load the last firmware. Was thinking also to look for the ATS-25 with the big touchscreen, but not sure if that one is in one of your samples.
@@TonyAlbus Unfortunately the manufacturer doesn't seem to do a good quality control of their product. Several other buyers had to do the same as you. This receiver is very basic and only uses the internal resources of IC SI4732-A10.
Only the IC does a good job on VHF(FM) and LW/MW/SW (AM and SSB). The manufacturer didn't add filters or a minimal front-end that could improve the final quality of the receiver. I wish you sucess. 73. PU2CLR.
Thank you!.. i wait my new ATs-20 and play again, thank you for your work on this opensource project.. Do you have also samplefiles in your repository for the ATS-25 with the big display touch, i am thinking of buying that one too, but only if you have the example files... because that just works inmidiate first time. great job!.
Greetings from Sweden!
Just got my ATS-20
It's very good and the battery time is just amazing!
I got the full package for 39usd
A bargain!
You, Sir,just got yourself a new subscriber.
Hallo Phil, thank you and enjoy! , Yes a bargain for sure!, well done
Good review and tear down Tony... Pity the unit wasn't working as it should... 10/10
Thank you!
love your setup at your home. nood picture of you and your dad God bless 73
Thank you! 73
Grew review and discussion of the unit’s weakness. I too have found it to be a great commercial FM radio receiver. For HF though it really seems to be useful only with a receiving antenna that has a pre-amp built in.
Thank you John, yes totally agree.
No need for preamp if you have outdoor wire as antenna. Preamp is rather evil in city conditions with extreme electrical noise
The small 9v loop antenna kits (AMLA150) from AliEx work very well for me, even indoors and cheap at 15 dollars.
im glad you got your order from BG. I ordered 2 of their uSDX transceivers....got 2 microphones instead. Their 'customer service' is absolutely useless.
Hi Lynn, sorry if my BG links are still there on old videos, i don't do any busyness anymore with them... to much dissapointment,s they even send me broken stuff to film... its something really wrong there, the last 6 months.
@@TonyAlbus Yes there is something wrong. Its called they are devious theives and will lie, cheat, and steal, to take your money. I was just trying to alert other hams that might be tempted by their lies.
cant wait until i listen to "the buzzer" when it arrives
Yeah!!! the update process is prob a lot different by now. its an older video. enjoy your radio sir!
Really useful video! Thanks, Tony! Oh, and thanks to Ricardo Caratti, also, for all his hard work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I cannot get the RDS to work on mine yet. I started Arduino along time, but the programming stuff threw me off, it's good to see that Arduino made to to the direction I want to be in this.
Good luck!.. its interesting
Nice work Tony
Thanks Mark!
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the explanation!! great work and easy to understand.
Also many thanks to Ricardo Caratti for his great work on the programming and libraries!
I'm new to Arduino, and found it very useful, although I had some issues setting up, I was able to get the right data/packages in place and working....
Wondering if it will work on a ATS-20+, but assume that it will. As I saw on the videos from Kevin O'Reilly (thanks) there are just little improvements to the set.. mainly a better encoder..
I am just curious as to how you learned where to get the right packages for the ATS-20 (and ATS-25).... I didn't get that..
Have you already looked at the XIEGU X6100?? I'm interested if it can be programmed too.. :-D
Thanks again and keep up!!

Thank you Dick, to be honest i needed to watch many videos to know what to do and then try a lot. Then decided to make it all into 1 video so other don't need to go trough the same.
Wow that Xiegu looks very very nice... i don't have one, it is a bit above my budget right now, just to play with it a bit. but thanks for letting me be aware of this device, indeed interesting.
PS, i also have a video with item links, how to replace the encoder with a better one.
@@TonyAlbus Hi Tony, I did see that video, and thought about it, but then I saw the ATS-20+...
Thanks again for the work...
Leuke video's.. leerzaam...
Groet!
Bedankt voor je leuke reactie! .. ik denk dat er in die tijd nog geen 20+ was, nu zou je inderdaad daar voor kiezen.
None of this was easy to understand! Where did he get the Sketch from? There was no Si4732 sketch there on Github! I could only get as far as installing the libraries then the rest made no sense. Between the mumbling and tiny font on the screen I have no idea what he is doing!
@@TonyAlbus Did you just make all this up as you went? I could only get as far as installing the libraries then the rest made no sense. Between the mumbling and tiny font on the screen I have no idea what is going on! Where did you get the sketch from?
Thanks
Glad i could help!
@@TonyAlbus no. Thanks.
Hi Tony,
I can't put the ATS-20+ in programming mode.
As soon as I connect the USB cable, the radio switches on (even with the swich in the back on "off") and no COM port gets created (and yes, I have installed the chinese drivers).
I have tried switching the radio on, pressing the encoder knob and connecting the cable afterwards - no result.
Any idea/hints?

Your device is maybe a lot newer then mine. sometimes the USB is only for charging and when you open the device you find the arduino with its own USB inside.
The USB ports don't work on these radios! Mine doesn't work either so have to install a new Arduino I guess if there is a way to figure out how to program it.
That's pretty sad, they bothered to add the USB-C port (I suppose to comply with EU regulations) and they messed up the arduino port
If anybody finds a way to fix that... please let me know. I wanted to try to implement a CAT functionality to pilot the radio from a PC/Raspberry.
@@amministratoredominio3694 Yes agree... you prob correct. charging needs to be USB-C .. maybe insite you still find the arduino port.
For your TRX, have a look at catdisplay dot com
@@TonyAlbus thanks Tony, but my idea was to write the Arduino code to implement the CAT protocol (of some stuff I know, like my ft857d or my ft1000mp5) so that we can use the cheap ATS-20(+) with FlRig, HRD, MixW, etc.
Still, this requires a functioning USB connection to the Arduino and a MAX232/TTL port on the ATS-20(+)
Thank You 🙏
(Is there an Easy Way to Fine Tune the Receiver?)
I recently bought an ATS20+ & it Receives very well across MF,HF & it's also great on the commercial VHF FM Band but I noticed it's slightly off Frequency when using SSB HF
& it has no RIT for SSB below 1KC steps.
Is there an Easy Way to Fine Tune the Receiver to correct this?
Hi, maybe you can finetune it in the arduino software, but i did not follow the project for 2 years now.
@@TonyAlbus Thanks for the info my Friend & 73 ⚡🙏⚡
Hello. A very interesting and interesting receiver. I am interested in whether this receiver has the FM frequency range 87.5 - 108 MHz. If so, what are the sensitivity and selectivity? I would like to know about this radio. Thank you and best regards.
Hi i have tried it here and the sound it good, but it also depends on the internal speaker, there are many versions around, from very good to almost crap.
i have no specific numbers for you, but i use it as my radio in the office
@@TonyAlbus Ok I understand. How does it look in terms of sensitivity and selectivity? I mean separating the strong stations from the weaker ones close to each other?
I have seen many different models of these, but the internet does not convey much information. In Poland, little or no such models are popular, because I have not found a single RUclips video in Polish.
@@fm-dx. Hi, this guy did a lots of tests: ruclips.net/user/KevinOReillyswl hope that helps.
I'd like to get AM/SSb/Lsb/UsB on the FM band
That is limited by the chip itself. the developers used all modes en frequencies it can do.
Ats 20 não reconhece USB para atualização.. como proceder?
Hi, you have newer hardware i think, this video by now is 2 - 3 years old. i think your usb is for charging and insite is a usb for updating. but be aware this video may maybe not for your new one
Mine came with something rattling around inside. So I opened up the case and it was the battery rolling around loose in the bottom half of the case.
Yes the first i received was properly build, the last 2 ones where lower quality, i think later cheaper copies where made.
I still don't understand how to upgrade the firmware. My radio stopped working after 4 months.
Hi, its an older video, things prob. go different now and more easy, but have not been following the project anymore
Thanks for this review. What radio is the comparison @7:40?
Hi, that is the NASA or Target HF3 or HF4 : ruclips.net/video/pNf3lr8e5Z8/видео.html
@@TonyAlbus Thank you. Good looking radios indeed!
🌹♥️🌹
Thank you!
So how do you do the update? Where did he get the Sketch from? Between the mumbling and tiny font on the screen I have no idea what he is doing!
Hi steve, its a 2 year old video, this is an old method because it was just new in that time, this method is not for everyone, find a newer video i am sure the project is now more open to less technical people
got a ? about this unit ?
can u recive 11 meters on this unit?
My version did 2 years ago, but i dont remember if it was in FM or AM(ssb) only
How would I revert back to V1.1.5 if I wanted to? I have not flashed the board yet but I would like to have it just in case..Thanks
You can not download it from the device with the arduino software, so then you need the sources. But maybe with a lowlever downloader you get get it from the device.
Best is to try to find the sources i think.
Yes, you can easily revert back to any software that is available. Maybe not a "revert back" but just an over-write. I just upgraded from 3.04 to 3.07......but didn't like it, so i just over-wrote the 3.04 back on it and it is back to normal. Just install the PU2CLR libraries (Si4735) in the ArduinoIDE and you can install any of them you like. They will show up in the "Examples" tab as usual.
@@TonyAlbus Thanks Tony! great videos. Glad I found your channel. Lots of great info here. Keep up the good work!
@@englishrupe01 Ok, thanks! is there any way to know the characteristics of the examples before I install them? I do not want to lose my shortwave reception. I get good FM but just ok shortwave reception. I like this little radio though.
@@englishrupe01 Great, thanks for sharing
Hello To Istanbul Turkey , This Radio Price 2.500 TL In Turkey Or according To You 80 dollars , fine Radio I Listen To SSB Radio and SW Radio more
Greetings to Turkey, enjoy!
also because ATS-20 only unfortunately on CB no FM is a shame, hope an uptade come for it
Hi, i think that is the limit of the main chip, that does not support it, that also means you can not solve that with a software update.
@@TonyAlbus ok thanks Tony 😔
@@VOLKZZORN i wanted something simular but te otherway around AM on airband.. but both the frequency and AM there is not possible. 108-136 MHz
@@TonyAlbus yes, it's a shame because it's really great to see if the ATS-25 FM in 11m band would be great. but maybe there will be some modifications 😉
@@TonyAlbus Hey, Tony....don't forget there is the very cheap (under 25 dollars) FlightStick SDR dongle that gives you all the VHF 118-136 Mhz band. Plug and play.
I have spent so much time over the years opening up electronics from china and cleaning up the electrical connections.
Thank you for sharing.
Any buddy help for updates my ats-20 receiver.
Folow this step by step and you will be good.
Can the ATS-20 be updated only via a Windows computer?
i updated it with arduino software for windows if that is available for other os, then maybe you can. also there are bin uploaders but then you need to find a compiled bin file.
No, it updates fine on my Linux Mint machine through the Arduino IDE.
can recive 11 meters on here?
My version did 2 years ago, but i dont remember if it was in FM or AM(ssb) only
No data cable with the one I just received
okey, on mine was a standaard usb cable.
@@TonyAlbus If I can find an old USB cable, I should be able to update the firmware without any problems?
@@TonyAlbus My USB cable that came with the radio is a C charging cable. There are 2 USB ports on my radio. One is for the C cable and the other is for the USB mini, like the one you have on this video. I'm wondering if I can update the firmware with the C port or if that is only for charging. One would think if they add a C port, they would also have the latest firmware, but no. It has the first edition of the firmware so it needs a couple of updates. Thanks for your great videos!
@@mickstermouseter7059 Yes maybe, the video is more then a year old, maybe things have changed, i have not played with it sens then
@@TonyAlbus My radio is a ATS-20+
is the same procedure for the Ats 20+? do you have whatsapp or telegram? I want help, I can not update. I want show you pictures of the errors I have
Yes it is the same.. just follow step by step.. i don't have a service were i help via DM
any idea how to update the ones without the nano and just a smd atmell 328 chip?,i have this model,it has no usb port but a c type, cheers Paul.
If it is also arduino, do everything the same, but select the correct chip you have.
@@TonyAlbus already done that but need to know what board to select in the ide, cant see a way to select just a 328p chip, tried uno and nano old and new bootloader, nothing works, although my pc sees it as a ch-340 serial port.!.
@@tekguyla1118 The serial2TTL is just that.. its important to find out what chip it has. i am not familiar with your model.
