I've been skipping over reMarkable 2 videos all week and this is the first one that actually tackles the workflow related to art. I was kind of hoping that I could simply export SVGs and use a paint bucket tool in Illustrator, Photoshop or Animate; but it seems like the SVG fidelity isn't really accurate. However it seems like it could still be useful for just sketching and then redrawing later while saving me the time of using a scanner while keeping everything on a single place. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks for watching the video! I should mention that since I made this video (basically a year ago) they’ve updated the firmware several times, and I’m finding now that the SVG export is a lot better quality and reads a lot better in a variety of programs (it used to look pretty bad in Affinity Designer/publisher but now it looks better, and is usable). The annoying thing is that it exports the whole drawing as one SVG SHAPE rather than a bunch of separate strokes. Hopefully they’ll keep improving it. It’s super great for keeping sketches together, and It works awesome as a way to make sketch layers! I was thinking I’d make a “part two” of this video sometime this summer.
@@gogomachrocketsheep As an Animate/Flash illustrator that is honestly better for me, haha. Although I read somewhere that the the reMarkable 2 exports pencil scribbles as strokes and marker scribbles as shapes. Makes sense to me since apparently you drew both layers of your Betty drawing using markers, but I could be completely wrong. To me, seeing that you're still using the reMarkable 2 is nothing but a good indicator that this is a great product. I'd love to see your opinions in your Part Two if you decide to put out a video this summer. Would like to see what else you have to say now that a year has passed. Also I need to budget carefully for this thing, since it is unreasonably expensive. I mean, the case alone is $150. 😅 Cheers! 🙂
@@PoshoDev oh yeah the case is a total waste of money! I have a friend who splurged on the case and it sucks. Keep your eyes peeled for part two! :D And thats good to know about the pencil vs brush/marker!
3:26 so there is layer, layers. An we can discard the basic one, and use only the final drawing. None of the remarkable recensions do not mention this ability. Not even the company themselves.
Thanks for this. The ReMarkable2 is really calling to me. I too am a cartoonist, and the info about exporting as a low res PNG or SVG and compatibility with Clip Studio was very helpful. And I think I agree with your conclusion. Draw on the ReMarkable2, export low res sketch, and ink in CSP. I haven't ordered yet, but the total in my cart for the device and the basic stylus is $378, so the price HAS come down. I could get a kickass Android tablet for that amount, but then I would have to constantly resist the allure of the web, social media, games and all the other digital distractions that keep me from writing and drawing.
Glad it was helpful! I have to make a follow-up video, the SVG export has gotten better since I made this video a year or so ago, It still reads a bit wonky in CSP but it's a lot better in affinity designer (or adobe equivalent). Just make sure if you order it, you get the version where you aren't paying a subscription fee for the cloud services- that is one way they made it cheaper since I bought mine and made this video, but it isn't worth the savings as the cloud functionality is like 75% of what makes it good for a workflow (especially if you end up using it for note taking, brain storming, writing, or anything in addition to sketching) It is a lot of fun though, especially out in broad daylight.
It looks really neat, but I think I'll wait to see where the price goes when the remarkable 3 comes around. Tech prices usually deteriorate as time goes on.
It's not too shabby, with a fresh nib. With a worn down nib it can feel like you're not getting the light-end of the pressure spectrum, but with a fresh nib it feels right. For some reason i burn through the ReMarkable nibs at a crazy rate- I think I'm on my fifth nib (in contrast, I've never replaced a nib on any other drawing device I've ever owned)
Totally- for most people, and in most situations, pencil and paper is gonna work fine. But having undo, copy/paste and resize are all pretty great, and a bit harder to do on a regular ol' sketchbook.
Thank you for actually showing the whole drawing process 🙏
What a great, practical and right to the point review! Super helpful.
Thanks so much for the kind words! :D

Thanks. Helped me make up my mind to buy. I am looking forward to using it to sketch out my coloring books

How's the initial activation pressure?

I think just a sketchbook and pencil still works better and no battery life to worry about.
