I worked in Zaire for 2 years almost 40 years ago. My takeaway is; why are post colonial rulers as bad as or worse than their former overlords? Mobutu, Kabila, Leopoldo et al. I find it distressing that these good people are still without electricity and running water and most importantly schools in the 21st century! This is just wrong

So, all farmers should move to the city? It's not your problem, it's ours. We must demand that our governments demand international mining companies abide by the same rules they do in their own countries. Then you can continue typing your ridiculous comments.

As long as greed exists, there exist conflicts & chaos. And if nothing is done to help alleviate the miseries of the poor people of Congo. Then, we are all part of the problem because we hold in our hands the product to which those minerals go to. All of the laptops, pc, smartphones & electric cars man has ever produced. The introduction states that this mining company is owned by the Congolese state. The rest of the programme refers to "the mining company" as though some foreign entity were to blame for the poverty in which the people live ... but "the mining company" is the Congolese state/government ...
These people should be taken care of by the money leaving there land. This is robbery of there rights to the land and wealth that should be shared with the people who live there.
Horrible, especially when u know how much money they are pulling out of these mines! These companies all provide big promises they never deliver on. Commitments and compensation should not be handled by village elders but by lawyers who would get these things in writings. Their needs to be guarantees and penalties for failures written into contracts. I bet for 200k they could have provided really nice houses and a school for these people.
At least offer those families a good life, I mean school, clean water, nice houses and hospitals for the sake of God, you can't be a slave in your own land. How can a human being be so heartless like that.
A global administration is needed to oversee safety in mines, to protect the environment, and also enforce building codes. In good market conditions each individual has a change to progress. Then a large company that wants to pay the workers little will have no staff. A government that cannot generate a climate of opportunity should be voted out, and hopefully superseded by one that can.
Afrika has cursed itself through failure to educate ourselves, failure to make the thieves that we ourselves vote into power accountable, religion and other foolish self imposed boundaries. So until we give ourselves right-knowledge we'll never know the value of the Afrikan resources.
We should not have given up the Congo as a colonial state. We could have saved a lot of money for Belgium. Especially now that those raw materials are highly sought after in the energy transition.
It is much cheaper and more effecient for a mining company to extract Cobalt by using bulldozers , excavators and huge trucks and employ 20 men to operate them . What you see in this video is thousands of men and boys being paid $4 per day which adds up to a bigger cost than using trucks and machinery. This is not cheap labor. The Congo government stipulates manual labor is used and they are paid $4 per day. $4 goes a long way in the Congo unlike America where $4 buys you nothing.
Wealth that has become curse to the common people. Powerful feeding on the powerless. People are so inhumane, how are we even called humans & we don't mind plight of the next human. In the end wealth & exploitation doesn't count, what you do to positively impact society does. I feel disappointed human race myself included.

Sow injustice - reap injustice. Sow no mercy - reap no mercy. "Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he himself shall also call, and shall not be answered." Proverbs 21:13 " One oppresses the poor to multiply for himself, another gives to the rich, only to come to poverty." Proverbs 22:16 Hear you rich ones who oppress the poor - "And I shall send a fire against Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. So says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn back from it, for they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of sandals, panting for the dust of the earth to be on the head of the helpless, and turning aside the way of the humble. And a man and his father will go in to the same girl, in order to profane the name of My holiness." Amos 2:5-7 O rich ones of the earth, Judah did not escape the judgment of God, nor will you unless you repent of all this injustice.
@Kowalski Penguin A farmer does not harvest the crop until the fruit is mature enough. A fisherman who runs a business does not go after the baby fish but the mature fish. An actor does not present his lines until the script has been finalized. So our Lord does not harvest wickedness from the earth unitl the cup of His indignation is full. He is EXTREMELY longsuffering. Remember what He said to Abraham... "Gen 15:16 And in the fourth generation they shall come here again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full." God had every right to deal with teh Amorites even during the time of Abraham, but Israel was not yet born, nor had it gone through affliction - 'labour pains'. Labour pains have to be present before natural birthing can take place, and the last series of pains are 'unbearable' as every mother would well know, especially for the first child. But after the birth, the sorrow is forgotten and the mourning is turned into joy. I draw your attention to 2Peter 3:9-14; "The Lord of the promise is not slow, as some deem slowness, but is long-suffering toward us, not having purposed any to perish, but all to come to repentance. ....." And to James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain." The angels asked God will we root out the weeds growing among the wheat? And God said no, lest you also root up the wheat. Let both grow together until harvest , then they can be separated and each sent to their rightful place. Matthew 13:30
God will not save this people because there is no God. If there were good he would have done something. The only one who can save those people are other people whether it is first world leaders or Congo people with big influence like lawyers.
