THIS IS A MUST SEE! The first of 4 anti Nazi films Fritz Lang made after he emigrated to America. This is one of the greatest American films of the 40's. Also see Hangmen Also Die and Ministry of Fear, two more of his masterpieces on the same subject.
@@christopherTYJ Yes, that was the fourth. I didn't mention it because I think it is not quite as good as the other three. But it is certainly worth watching. Lang is one of the very greatest world directors. His Dr. Mabuse the Gambler is one of my 13 all time favorite films.
He appeared in a number of the Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone in the 1940s, also portraying Inspector Lestrade opposite Rathbone in "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes".
After seeing the so-so peter O' Toole version, was hoping for a much better screen adaptation in this. ... (spoiled by the BBC Radio 4 adaptation). Puzzled why here also the addition of the love interest and disappointed Azmodeus wasn't included. And even his time hiding out in the countryside lasted mere minutes. I guess I have a problem with the guy who suddenly happens to be on the exact same boat and has men waiting for him at the exact dock/port the ship arrived. In other words it's such a great book, why couldn't they adapt a screenplay that more accurately follows the actual story ????????? Rant over..
In 1951, Bennett's screen career was marred by scandal after her third husband, film producer Walter Wanger, shot and injured her agent Jennings Lang. Wanger suspected that she and Lang were having an affair, a charge which she adamantly denied. She married four times.
I think the Bennet sisters (Joan and Constance) are not only beautiful, but highly talented actresses in every respect!
Roger that. Welcome.
Such a young Roddy MacDowell!
Roger that. Thanks for watching.

It’s the movies 😂
Hooray for Holly Wood...
Roger that. Thanks for watching.
Frederick Worlock was in an episode of Sherlock Holmes. He played a mathematician, I think.
He appeared in a number of the Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone in the 1940s, also portraying Inspector Lestrade opposite Rathbone in "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes".
Pretty good for its age, compares quite well with "Rogue Male" a generation later.
Thanks for sharing your opinions.
No Azmodeus ?? (The cat)
Yes, movies often change the books they are based on, and change the characters.

A film antiNazi film, well done 🙌👍
Roger that. Thanks for watching.
I'm 1 minute into this film. The set design looks fake AF, but Fritz Lang is a storyteller, so I got to stick around.
G George Sanders is playing a most convincing Nazi. Credit to the good directing he received. The white uniform is a nice touch 8m5s.
Thanks for the visit!
Pretends towards a full-blooded open air action movie but stays as a simpering interior quasi-romance to the sound of soupy music! Off day for Lang…
