ENGINE OUT! Mastering TWIN ENGINE Emergencies--Mock Multi-Engine Rating Checkride

- Ride along in a twin-engine Piper Apache as I prepare Cliff for his multi-engine rating checkride. All twins are a handful, but simply getting airborne in this particular aircraft was challenging! After some instrument flight, we run through almost all the multi maneuvers (the exception being a failed engine on takeoff, which I gave him on the previous flight). For reference, 'The Drill' in the Apache is: maintain directional control, quadrant full forward, gear up, flaps up, fuel pumps on, identify, verify, feather.
And give Cliff a hearty congratulations - he passed his checkride the following day! - Авто/Мото
I’m not a perfect instructor myself, just saying when I do mock check rides I will not help the student with anything more than the examiner will. I don’t do anything like help with the instrument procedures, or things to look out for like alts, hdgs, checklists. The examiner won’t do any of that unless the applicant is severely struggling. The purpose of the mock checkride is to see what, if anything, the student is going to fail on. You shouldn’t have to walk the student through the maneuvers as they are doing them. They have been trained prior to this assessment flight, let them perform. Not saying be stone cold quiet but they are there to shine not be cradled. Great flight and video anyhow.
Here we go! Nice way to end the day!!
What a greaser! Great pilot...with one engine. Good stuff.
I absolutely love your channel! Keep it up!
Great video! Nice work guys.
Great video Troy! Keep it up and your channel will take off as well.
Great learning video here! Awesome little airplane too. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video.
will be doing mine in a few weeks, needed some practice. Nice Job !!
nice airplane. What a beautiful sound !!!
Nice video! Well done. I enjoyed it.
What a fantastic video Troy. I just passed my commercial multi engine add on on October 14th at Prairie Air Service in their Piper Apache Geronimo! Enjoyed watching this video.
I was taught to do clearing turns before steep turn.
This one was a lot of fun. And educational. Probably my favorite of your videos so far. I hope the checkride went well.
Thanks! My goal was to keep the instruction to a minimum and let him show me his stuff. He passed his checkride with flying colors.
The rudder was full left I guess? Like butter... Always to fun to fly with the Troyster.
Actually, it was full right rudder to compensate for the yaw created by the drag of the left (failed) engine. When there’s no remaining rudder authority to counter the yaw, recover by decreasing pitch attitude & reducing power on the right engine (which is generating a rolling moment to the left).
Great voice! You ever thought about podcast? I mean it's still great for a Captain in the airlines.... Oh yeah she great video😋
Pitch to Blue line, Flaps up, Gear up, Identify Verify, Feather. Light a cigarette. Chill and think
Forget FLYING..How did this guy end-up NOT being the current-day Howard Kosell, on ABC Monday Night Football??
CFI should comment baseball games or host a radio show asap.
Man if and engine is giving you that much trouble I wouldn’t be flying it like that
And if I did risk it, I’d be wearing my shoulder harness!
way to go Cliff.........Job well done...... could he have gone missed with engine out? If not what would be the procedure? Good job Troy....
No, you’ve only got one shot at landing on a single engine. Better get it right!
“I don’t think this aero plane is making book.” Lol! No truer words have ever been said about that bird. What a pleasure to watch compared to that Baron “pilot” you flew with.
