The Last Man on Earth is the most accurate fictional pandemic

  • Movies, TV and Video games about pandemics are usually overblown. The Last Man on Earth wasn't, and now that Covid's happened, it feels more realistic than any piece of fiction about a virus.

Absolutely stoked to see you talk about this, feels like one of the most underrated shows in years.
Not sure if its touched upon since this is before I watch but I always remember someone saying that this is a unique apocalypse show, because there is no actual danger to the cast forcing them to stay together. It's pretty much an entirely peaceful time now and they only stick together because no matter how much they argue, people crave company with other people and they can survive better as a team.

@@Stubagful I'm still salty over no series 5. Will Forte did reveal what he wanted the season to be about in an interview though so there's that, though its just another arc in what seems to be an open ended story, which I realise is the only way this show could go. I know you will probably never see this comment but here we go:
I feel like your criticisms of The Last Of Us fall flat considering that everything you bring up is directly addressed in the games, and plays a huge part in the themes of the second game.
You say that the game treats its human enemies as disposable bad guys who’s death mean nothing, however it actually has the most humanised enemies I have ever seen in gaming. The fact that they referrer to each other by name, the casual conversations they have with each other about things like food, family and their dating life. These things all contribute to the idea that their is more to these people that what is on the surface. The fact that one of the soldiers you kill could have started a family, and yet Ellie is completely unaffected by it, and more concerned about her pregnant girlfriend, speaks to how desensitised she is to violence, and how every individual in the game has convinced that the enemy are completely irredeemable monsters.
It feels quite ridiculous to criticise people for acting desperate and violent, in a world where a fungus has killed/infected over 60% of the global population. And in spite of that, there are STILL many thriving community’s living in relative peace.

I liked season 1 because I felt that the characters were actually doing things to improve the situation they’re in, and doing things that actually matter.
