- LIVE COURT CAM: MA v. #KarenRead - DAY 4 - Firefighter/paramedic Katie Mclaughlin returns to the stand for cross and redirect. Jury view will follow. Testimony resumes when jurors return from crime scene in the murder trial against Karen Read. Read is accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, whose body was found in the snow outside of a fellow Boston officer’s home in Canton, Mass.
Prosecutors have said Read hit O’Keefe with her car and left him to die in the snow.
But Read’s defense team has said she never hurt O’Keefe and that she is being framed by the true killers, who may have been inside the house where the body was found.

Fix the audio and get the lawyers a microphone
The judge is SO SO SO INAPPROPRIATE telling the lawyers to wrap it up with the questioning, the heavy sighs when defense team is croas examining, the constant sidebars, the interrupting, and constantly siding with the state, that is maddening.. She over rules all of the defenses objections, and sustains all the states. If, and that is a real maybe, Karen somehow gets convicted, there will likely be grounds for appeals!
Yes. She didn't even let the defense re-cross once and other teams told them to make it brief...this Woman's life is on the line. She should not be so one-sided and sighing, etc...
Prosecutor's judge. Clear as day. Hate that. The defence has a tough enough job without a judge to fight as well.

What was the reasoning for denying a recusal of judge due to conflict of interest? Seems like a valid request .....you can see the bias and that's not good in any case, ever. Clown show IMO. . Glad the FBI is watching closely.

The judge has asked for the grounds to objection not to be stated in this case just to object and if xhe requires more she will go side bar this was agreed by both parties prior , the judge doesn't really need them to say the grounds for an objection it's easy to see what the grounds are it's just saving time .

Most Judges rule on "NO speaking objections" but this judge, is making sure the jury doesn't hear any truth from the defense. It will cause appellate issues for sure!!

This crime was horrific. Poor John O’Keefe. God bless his soul and hope he and his family receive the appropriate justice 🙏🏻

The words we heard (few), the words responders didn’t think important enough to document, or the words that have suddenly been remembered by others? Can you be precise because so far, not one witness for the state has been.

I think that even if she said those words, it does not prove anything about her guilt. She could have genuinely thought that it was possible to have hit him with her car, because any other possibility would be unfathomable at the time. But just because you feel guilty for something when you're in a state of shock, does not mean you actually are.
It seems as if all the objections from the state are sustained but all or most the objections from defense are overruled.
Why would a judge have the jury leave when the defense, shows pictures of her good friend, that she claimed she barely knew. Testimony that would completely impeach her entire examination?? So when the defense has impeachable testimony against a witness, the judge doesn’t allow the jury to see or hear her “most relevant testimony” that clearly impeached her examination!! This alone is grounds for appeal. The judge doesn’t care, as long as she gets a guilty verdict to distract from any future investigation of the real culprit whom more likely than not, committed this murder. DISGUSTING!!!
This was answered by the judge, they cropped the pictures and the prosecution knew this so they left it up to the judge if the jury should see altered pictures.

Katie McLaughlin lied to her teeth, not knowing Caitlyn Albert. Also, they were in the same graduation year as Joseph McCabe. More tight knit connection with the Albert clan.

The injuries at his head are consistent with a fight. Look up MMA fight injuries. They are mostly at the head, with cuts and pingpong eyes injuries. Same injuries J O'Keefe sustained. I believe Brian Albert was an MMA fighter? He fell backward against a sharp object. B.Albert had some gym equipment with sharp edges. What the defense has to prove is that he was in the house: the Apple watch showing 36 steps leading to the basement?
I have watched a LOT of trials and I. Have NEVER seen a judge furiously writing notes in a book and jumping up frequently saying “let me see those”. Guess she’s gotta get her facts for when she speaks to the Albert fam.
Does anyone have any feedback on how the jury is taking this all in so far? Any jurors taking notes or looking bored or any testimony perk them up??

She's charged with second degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

It was defense catching Mclaughlin in a huge regarding her testimony and then it was regarding McLaughlin admitting that she and Kaitlin Albert ( the daughter of Brian Albert) who lived in the house on Fairview where O'Keefe was found!

This courtroom is the size of a closet! I can imagine it is very uncomfortable. They all seem jammed in there like sardines.
I have watched from Day 1 yet feel like I have missed a major part of the trial. Would have thought evidence would have been provided to support theory of a cover-up and the involvement of the people in the house where the get-together was held. Katie appeared to be questioned like she was guilty in a conspiracy yet no evidence has proven there was one or that anyone other than Read was involved in John’s death. That makes it seem like a fishing expedition rather than proving something that actually occurred.
I’ve been watching also and feel like the prosecution hasn’t really provided any evidence yet. The defense is only cross examining the witnesses. It’s not their turn yet. They’re poking holes in the prosecution’s witness. Once the prosecution rest then it’s their turn to start providing doubt that she did it. Idk what to believe!!
Defense presents after the prosecutor. They are limited to cross examining witnesses at this point.
@@janeen70 That is why I think it looks like they are just fishing instead of proving. Unlike so many, I had known very little about this case until the first day of trial. Sure, the opening statements provided the cover-up as their defense and I realize why they are seemingly badgering the witnesses to obtain clues of a cover-up but as an observer, it would have connected the dots far more easily to present their evidence of a cover-up and recall the witnesses to the stand to provide the proof. The flow of the case seems off because there has been no evidence that John was ever in the house or interacting with anyone but Read.
@@dianewilliams9729 That is not the way it's done. The state gets to call witnesses and present their case first. At this point, all the defense can do is to try to create some doubt with the witnesses testimony. They don't have to even prove their theory, they just need to raise enough questions to make the jurors uncertain.
@@janeen70 Thanks, I do understand all that but I have never viewed a trial where it made the Defense Attorneys appear to be fishing and badgering rather than proving their theory. Like you say, they only have to create reasonable doubt and right now I am having difficulty with the reasonable part.

I truly enjoy opening statements but I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the fact that not one host is being completely biased sounding like the statements that nobody recorded or even talked about in the indictment could have never been said ? And if this is a cover up of some type ,your not giving any merit .it's like you guys feel that every thing the cops n medics have said is true .and the fact of pictures showing her with the lady in question shows her as a friend from high school and at baby shower it's obvious to me they are friends ? And as far alcohol. 07.08 is legal to drive if she was so drunk why did her cop husband not drive or all the cops at the party let her drive fishy very fishy . But I can't help feel that Vinny and Julie grant come across like it's impossible for there to be cover up or the only possible action is that Karen Reed had to hit him .I feel that the possibility of her running g him over and hitting him so hard in the snow and only having a cracked tail light is un real there would have been a dent or othere damage along with burn out marks in the snow of some kind just a thought why couldn't they have beaten him and left him out to die ? Motive could be they were up to corrupt things and Mr okief was going to blow the whistle? Just a good possibility
KR’s behaviour at the scene early on, to me sounds more like panic, fear and guilt rather than being grief stricken and worried about John. Eg. Not crying with tears and not saying I love him, how am I going to live without him, etc. Which one would expect someone to normally say in those type of circumstances. But rather pacing around shouting and repeatedly wanting to obtain confirmation if John was dead and speaking of self harm. Appears not normal reactions of an innocent person not involved in it, but rather a guilty person that was involved in it. You also see her in the court room when it’s being discussed never showing any form of emotion whatsoever, which appears also unusual. Overall it’s like a person who’s not expressing concerns about him actually passing, just what’s going to happen to her as a result of it = more than likely she was involved, imo.
