    Thank You, JLR. I'm in deep lamentation for Cedar Key, When my father went outside in his nursing home and perished outside in the snow, my husband and I left NC and went to Cedar Key. We got healing there, the wonderful people there. May all of them be blessed. I love and thank them for much as I do for you.

    This is so bad. I visited there August 9th to 11th 2024. We stayed at Island Hotel and Restaurant. We ate and had drinks there at the outside restaurant (@13:03). I can't remember but I think it was Tipsy Caw, there was friendly orange cat there. I played with the cat while we had drinks. I hope the cat is alright. We walked to the cemetery from Island Hotel. Then. Started raining hard. One of the resident there offer to come to their car port abd even offered us to say in their patio. Nice people live there. I hope they are alright.

      They know the risks indeed and take the chances. The ppl that live there have the funds to rebuild usually. And FEMA helps a little at some point.Most of the buildings being unearthed at 40 min in are timeshares. I lived in Bronson, 20 min from there. Miss it everyday!!!

  • @ScarlettGraceDesigns

    JLR, look up the FEMA 50/50 rule. If repairs are more than 50% of appraised value- they have to build to new FEMA elevation and codes. Crazy expensive, but gets them up above flood levels.

    @annmorgan5025 Месяц назад +1

    While very informative to be able to see the damage, since we can’t be there, we actually live there. Some docks were gone from last years hurricane and before that. Some houses that you said the first floor was gone, never had a first floor. They were older stilt homes so not as high. The UF building, which lost it’s sign ( so you wouldn’t know what it was) was built with blow out walls on the first floor, specifically for this reason, I could go on, but I really do appreciate your efforts.

    Florida is not for the faint at heart. The hurricanes are fierce, insurance skyrocketing and housing is very expensive due to high demand.

  • @PastaSausta
    @PastaSausta Месяц назад +3

    Biggest concern are any lives lost. Of course, picking up the pieces will be very difficult and traumatic, but at least that can all be replaced. The downside is, people’s whole livelihoods are ripped apart and they are now displaced while they wait to rebuild. 😢😢
    I think it’s time we reassess these wetlands and marshes. These coastal areas were designed to absorb these hurricanes, but we filled in beaches and marshes to build communities.

It should be turned into a state park.. This tiny island is NOT meant for people to live on. Look at this video... the trees are fine, the Oaks, Cedars and Sabal Palms are all fine.. the native vegetation should be the only things on Cedar Key.

    This is terrible, I feel pretty bad for all this people. I don’t think they even have insurance since there is no insurance company that would ever issue insurance in this area or do they?
