I remember a caller to a Danny Baker show saying many years ago he fallen asleep in front of the tv on a Sunday night to be awoken at 3am by the Coronation Street theme! Apparently, before the itv network was completed properly Granada used to transmit the show unscheduled for the other stations to tape and show around 7.30pm.
I was scrolling randomly through the Sky Tv guide the other day and it blew my mind to see Frasier being shown at 4:30 am on Channel Four. As someone who grew up with that show in its heyday in a Friday night 10pm time slot it just really surprised me
Thanks for another interesting video, Adam. Incidentally, the world's longest running soap is The Archers on BBC Radio 4, running continually since 1st January 1951.
I never hear anybody talk about Corrie or Eastenders anymore. Its incredibly rare if i do. I dont think it will be as spoiler-ie as some may think. In this day and age though i guess it makes sense, whether i am for or against at the moment, i'm unsure. I like tradition
With Sky+ and catchup TV they could broadcast it at 2am in the morning and people will just either record it or download it and watch when people want to. The BBC even now shows some shows first episodes in its normal slot and then after airing making all episodes available on download Personally I haven’t watch a program in full on ITV for probably the last 5 years and they could get rid of the channel and I wouldn’t miss it
That was an old joke with Countdown, on some very rare occasions I understand the early morning Channel 4 pre dawn version was the original not the repeat, when there was a rare schedule clash on the pre dawn morning/normal afternoon slot. I swear there was an episode or two where Richard Whitely cracked a bad joke about the early birds for once getting an original episode.
I agree with the whole classic Emmerdale & Corrie, it gives people who are just tuning in a chance to get to know the storylines a bit more, I started properly watching Eastenders again in Jan 2023, and I do like how iplayer has been uploading the old episodes from like 2008-2022 so far, so if there's a certain episode like a Christmas special that I feel I need to watch, I can do, at my fingertips.
Adam as you (like me) found the Nolly programme interesting (like you I also wasn't around for the original series either so I've never actually watched Crossroads ) you might find Angela Rippon Reporting: The Soap Opera Business interesting from 1980, its on BBC iPlayer, I watched it on Saturday night it was shown on BBC Four as part of the Angela Rippon night, a lot of its about Crossroads (and Dallas) , it includes things such as a Crossroads producer saying he doesn't axe characters for the sake of it and wont get rid of popular characters.....I think the very same producer who sacked Noele Gordon about a year later.
Three days into the new regime, and we know we have visitors coming to the house, tonight, so I've managed to persuade Mum to watch the soaps in advance. That's kinda handy, now she can socialise properly instead of keeping one eye on the telly!
The reason why a new episode of corrie and emmerdale will be uploaded at 7am on ITVX and STV Player is because both Soaps do very well on ITVX and STV Player then the two broadcast channels ITV1 and STV that is why
The iPlayer have been uploading new episodes of EastEnders at 6 am for a couple of years as well as broadcasting the same episode at its normal time slot in the night
I do think the soaps should be reduced as Casualty has been reduced, Hollyoaks has been reduced, Doctors being axed, Holby City being axed, also Family Affairs was on C5.
So? Channel 4 have been putting all their non-live shows available on their streaming platform for a very long time at the start of the day. This just seems like a delayed reaction to BBC and Doctor Who.
7am? Really? I thought the 7:30pm time lot was fine enough so I don’t see why the time slots changed. Wasn’t 7:30pm a prime time slot? If someone can correct me on that, it would be great. Idk the change in time slots to me anyway feel like a step back.
These soaps 🧼 are on the way out. Only so much silly storylines viewers can bother watching anymore. It’s a long way back to the golden days of Corrie’s Jack and Vera, when Emmerdale was actually a proper Farm and Eastenders wasn’t Doomenders 😎
@@tophergraham6935 the quality of the writing in the old ones was significantly better, plus higher quality as much less hours made. It all started to go downhill about 20 years ago as the hours of coverage significantly went up and the way the programs were shot were changed to be a lot more efficient to make.
That sunk rather fast, particularly when they tried to love 💕 it up in 2002 😂 Surprised Carlton bothered 😕 considering they effectively closed down TV show making in Birmingham bar news after Crossroads was a failure 😣
The weeknight schedules on all channels now outside that habit go to pattern of the chase, pointless, news and soaps so little rating well thanks to ott streaming over focus. Strange how linear channels actually main cause of live ratings decline as encouraged binge watching dramas and heading to streaming for early screening of things. Sad to see as no slow steady changes all far too fast ..should embrace fact in UK stand out TV channels unlike netflix and Disney and Amazon got a live out put focus that shines when big entertainment events and sports events etc . Just don't get the speeding up linear decline that's actually down to actions on BBC , itv and channel 4 instead of gradually changing seems ott binge focused ...problem is once binge switch to other services to watch something else. The death of TV channels actually down to the networks being own worse enemies
Does anybody really care? Is there any episode that ends on a cliffhanger that you’d be racing down to ITVX at 7am. None of those shows that’s for sure
The WORST things that have EVER appeared on British TV. Coronation Street, Emmerdale (Farm,) and Eastenders! I can't believe the people of Britain still watch this complete and utter drivel, Utter rubbish! Still, thank you, Adam. Another interesting video.

it makes me sad the archers is becomming less and less about country life
When did Pobl y cwm start?
@@JennyAnnTea Pobol y Cwm started on 16th October 1974, recently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
UK Gold showed repeats of "Crossroads" in 1996 from around 7am. I think it did well even though the episodes were from years earlier.
I never hear anybody talk about Corrie or Eastenders anymore. Its incredibly rare if i do. I dont think it will be as spoiler-ie as some may think. In this day and age though i guess it makes sense, whether i am for or against at the moment, i'm unsure. I like tradition
Thanks
last ever ep of doctors is 14th November
Remember when Ch4 used to Show Will & Grace at 6:45am on Ch4, and they didn't bleep anything out
Thank you for all the great content its great 😊
My pleasure!
I’m reminiscing watching The Brothers on Talking Pictures
With Sky+ and catchup TV they could broadcast it at 2am in the morning and people will just either record it or download it and watch when people want to.

I get the whole digital first idea but 7am is such a weird release time

They want to get people onto streaming s you cannot skip the adverts and they can snoop on your personal information as well.
Three days into the new regime, and we know we have visitors coming to the house, tonight, so I've managed to persuade Mum to watch the soaps in advance. That's kinda handy, now she can socialise properly instead of keeping one eye on the telly!
I actually like it better when watch them live on TV if special episode definitely shouldn't be online before hand
Much better too watch it on itv 1 then itv x
I think it’s awesome I dea to watch it when you feel like it because if you can watch to 7:30 or 8:00 you can watch it before witch is so cool
The reason why a new episode of corrie and emmerdale will be uploaded at 7am on ITVX and STV Player is because both Soaps do very well on ITVX and STV Player then the two broadcast channels ITV1 and STV that is why
I'm not a massive fan of the up to date episodes of Coronation Street however I do like the Classic ones I watch them on RUclips 😊😊
The iPlayer have been uploading new episodes of EastEnders at 6 am for a couple of years as well as broadcasting the same episode at its normal time slot in the night
People can watch Corrie in the morning, before it's TV airing in the evening, odd!
I watch it
On ITVX Only
There something I need to tell you if I try to watch something on it X it redirects me to at player to see it could you make others aware of this
I started watching soaps in 1970s Emmerdale being the first one I viewed
itv3 shows classic soap episodes after 06:00
I do think the soaps should be reduced as Casualty has been reduced, Hollyoaks has been reduced, Doctors being axed, Holby City being axed, also Family Affairs was on C5.
Emmerdale was a Daytime soap until the 90s.
The BBC do the same with casualty it drops on BBC iPlayer at 6am on Saturdays
And RTE probably do the same for fair City
It Gives Pepole The Choice Of What Time They Want To warch Emmerdale and Corrie
Classic doctors is on every on every weekday on drama
Could itvx show follyfoot farm and black beauty I saw both versions of crossroads in 80s and 90s
So? Channel 4 have been putting all their non-live shows available on their streaming platform for a very long time at the start of the day. This just seems like a delayed reaction to BBC and Doctor Who.
They should put early Home & Away when ITV did it

The show is still airing on TV at 7:30, however the episodes will be made available on ITVX beginning at 7am.
Dang, I should really watch the video before commenting.
Early Morning Drama.
off topic but could you do another video watching 2002 Brum please?
These soaps 🧼 are on the way out. Only so much silly storylines viewers can bother watching anymore. It’s a long way back to the golden days of Corrie’s Jack and Vera, when Emmerdale was actually a proper Farm and Eastenders wasn’t Doomenders 😎
No their not they are still great
I have to agree. The plots are increasingly nonsensical and quite stressful. There’s no joy or humour in any of them now.

AMTV News is back I see
Crossroads had a reboot in 2001
That sunk rather fast, particularly when they tried to love 💕 it up in 2002 😂 Surprised Carlton bothered 😕 considering they effectively closed down TV show making in Birmingham bar news after Crossroads was a failure 😣
I was more a fan of Aussie shows Neighbours, Home and Away, The young doctors, a country practice, sons and daughters, flying doctors.
Channel 4 does the same with Hollyoaks for a while.
Do I want to go and have a look? No thanks! Not a soaps fan!
Corries Not gonna air At 7AM Cause Its gonna be good morning britain
ITVX for soaps at 7am
I don’t like soaps except for Eastenders and Hollyoats and Coronation Sweet
Don't Emmerdale and coronation stree already have classes episodes online
Will this soap page make it easier to avoid them or will they still appear on the front page?
Hi Adam it is a good idea as you get folk who moan the soaps get moved for the sport and this should have happened in 2010.
France Televisions do it since at least 2022 , they drop the 8pm episode of "un si grand soleil" at 6am
Imagine if all BBC radio stations aired The Archers simulcasting at the same time. 7am is too early.
The weeknight schedules on all channels now outside that habit go to pattern of the chase, pointless, news and soaps so little rating well thanks to ott streaming over focus. In my opinion, not a great decision. Releasing the episode on VOD after it's broadcasted on the linear is much better.
Agreed
I do e not my soaps, I think ira a good idea but on big epsiodes like Christmas Day, I feel they should hold back
I wonder will virgin media channels could do the same like ITV
ITV

They were originally quite good, especially through the 60s and 70s, but started going down the toilet with ludicrous storylines in the 90s and after.
I wonder if they will show the road to Coronation Street on itv x even if its a nbc production
HOW DARE YOU WITE TO IN A TITLE LIKE THAT!!!
I never 'wite'
