Hey gang! I noticed I made a "mouth typo" during the naming of chords during '18 And Life.' The correct progression is C#m9-Asus2#11-Emaj7-Badd11. I have no idea why I said "Aadd11" for that last chord, but I did. Don't worry, I hate making mistakes as much as anyone, so that little typo bothers me ten times more than it bothers you - sorry! : ) haha! Rock on!
Skid Row blew my 13yr old mind. So much so that I wanted to name my son Sebastian. LoL! To this day my favourite song by SR is Mudkicker and listen to both albums regularly. The vocal SB delivers in Midnight is astounding. Sadly, no one sings that way anymore. Great playing Dave!
Great video! I saw Skid Row in May 1992 at Alpine Valley WI. They were the headliner with Pantera, Megadeth, and Love Hate. Such a great show and good memories!
For one moment I thought this might be the Irish band Skid Row from the early seventies featuring a 17 year old Gary Moore who blew my 14 year old mind when I saw them live in 1971. Not that I am casting any aspersions on the Skid Row looked at in this particular episode. Excellent as ever.
I saw the original Skid Row in Chicago as an opener for TenYears After in 1970.Gary Moore on guitar. They later sold the name to these newer guys for what I recall as $30,000. The show was at an old exhibition center and seemed enormous. It was known as the Syndrome and the Kinetic Playground. The bill was 3pc organ think ELP, Quatermass, Skid Row, If,an English jazz/rock group Mylon Lefevre and TYA. 5 bands $4.00. Thanks for being a good teacher!
At the end of the 80s I was young and very impressed by the explosive solo on the song "i remember you". There, too, this aggressive pinch harmonics use. Great lesson. You conveyed the change of the route notes with the harmonies really well. Thanks and i wish a nice weekend for all 🎸🙂
Between Vito Bratta and Scotti Hill I was pushed from piano class in high school to electric guitar. They were the “Gateway” artists, with them came the bands that I had written off as impossible to imitate such as Maiden and Metallica, Malmsteen, etc. These guys don’t pitch harmonics as often as Dime or Wilde, but their placement is everything to the tune. Keep going strong Dave, love your posts.
Really cool stuff. Definitely grew up on some Skid Row as well. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Motivated me to go work on some of these riffs. And what's so cool is finding little parts along the journey that you throw into your own stuff. Things you probably would never found had you not been checking out these riffs.
I was thinking about the Row the other day Dave. They definately had a way of using pinch's and bar dips that were great. Wasted Time has an interesting progression in it. And the solo in that song is very creative. Cool lesson. And I still think they had the best guitar sounds for a two guitarists band in the 80's -90's. Better than Queensryche's guitar sounds. And that saying something
Always loved Skid Rows material! Sebastian’s vocal range and raw voice just put the band on the map. All of the other members, Rachel, Dave and Scotty are amazing musicians/guitarists. I’m glad they broke through with “18 and Life” and “I Remember You”. Also side note: in an interview with Rachel in 2019 he said that Jon Bon Jovi loved I Remember You as a ballad so much he told all the Skid Row guys, “I have to sing on this track” and Rachel and the producer said go ahead and lay down an vocal harmony on the track and if you listen to the ending of the “I remember” in the outro you can CLEARLY hear Jon’s vocal harmony over Sebastian’s higher vocal. I can not unhear it now and I’ve heard the song 1,000 times! Check it out pretty cool little Rachel shared for those who maybe didn’t know. 👍🏼 Awesome stuff as always Dave! Love your technique and teaching man. You’re a straight beast! Keep the up the awesome videos! 🤘🏼🔥
Wow David ! You really got to a band I almost totally forgot about! I used to jam with some guys that loved that band! Oddly enough I played bass on some of there songs. Very cool!! Thanks again David!
Saw Skid Row open for GnR back in the day. Slave to the Grind just came out. We were all still waiting for Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. On those first two Skid Row albums, they were young, hungry, and full of p*ss and vinegar. Even though Bach is a knucklehead, it is not Skid Row without him on vocals.
Slave to the Grind is their best work! Quicksand Jesus and In a Darkened Room are amazing songs! The rest of the album is great as well. A lot of people were expecting a carry over from the first album but Slave came out at a time in my life when I needed something heavy. Still love it to this day! Great job as always David.
Yeah dude - great playing with hooks and riffs that grab you from the beginning. Skid Row was a band that really rocked right from the start. Excellent video as always! Keep doing the good stuff!!!🤘😁🤘
please do rick derrenger (anything from Derringer -Live era ) and Jeff Waters of Annihilator (stone wall ,road to ruin ...ect..)). thanks for you hard work !
This video is so great and brings back so many memories. Saw Skid Row headline on STTG with Pantera opening on VDOP, in OKC (sorry for the abbreviations). Right in front of Dime and Scottie all night. It was my second concert and totally amazing.
Quicksand Jesus is a great song - they tune the 5th string up to C because that's the b6 of the E minor key they are in and as you show they use the root and the b6 as a drone for the chord progression. The only play to play it on guitar is to have the open string tuned to that note or you can't play it and keep it droning as they do.
superb, Skid Row was my first gig with love/hate and la.guns at the 20k london arena way back in 91 on the STTG tour when I was 14, great gig, even though Seb dropped his trousers, flashed and wiped his arse on a newspaper, all the girls went crazy haha. there was a mosh pit started by two fat chicks swinging around, no one else dared to join in..
I remember seeing Skid Row in Belfast in the 90's. Spitting was a thing the punks used to do, and there were a lot of punks in the audience. Sebastian got spat on a lot. Then, he had enough and told the crowd to, once and for all, get it out of their system or the band walks off stage. He stood there, arms open and it literally looked like it rained on him. Disgusting, but there was no more spitting after. Fair play to Sebastian.
@@Johnnysmithy24 I know, it was disgusting! Never saw it before or since, but was informed that it did happen at other events. Id love to know if anyone else who was at this show in N.Ireland remembers it. I still blame the punks lol
Great episode, so sorry to be that guy, but I love Quicksand Jesus so much I’ll point out 1 correction - the last chord is always fingered like an Am7 in 1st position (E note on D string 2nd fret, open G, C note on B string 1st fret).
Skid Row was a great band....saw them several times, Baz still tours all the time. Baz blew it up trying to be an Axl Rose for glam. The damage he did was eternal, Sabo and Bolan won't have anything to do with him. they get all the money anyway for writing. Too bad as that first album was etched in my brain, and always will be.
I saw Skid Row about 1996 open for Guns n Roses in New Zealand. Skid Row were absolutely awesome live! they certainly had it, a really tight live act with a lot of power. Conversely Guns n Roses were really disappointing,. actually other than Slash, they were crap, loose tired and didnt give a F**k. Axl's pathetic BS got booed and jeered in NZ
Axl kept us waiting for about 3 hours after Metallica to come onstage.......didn't get out of the show until 5 in the morning. First time I saw them open for Motley as complete unknowns, and Slash could barely play, but their songs were so catchy I bought the Appetite the very next day.
Skid Row pre-dated Nirvana with the loud chorus, soft verse dynamics in "Youth Gone Wild"...Its always good to have dynamics in songs....but they weren't too common in late 80's rock....unless you're the Pixies
The way that Skid Row used harmonics was perfect. Same as Jake E. Lee. Zack used to use them appropriately. Nowadays, guys have gone way overboard with them though. It just sounds stupid. Stop doing it people. Stop making metal suck

No problem, David! Thanks for the heads-up!
Love seeing your videos dude, a fan from Winslow Indiana 😉
Can I ask what head that is you use? I love the tones you get from it!
I was never into Skid Row but I have to admire Sebastian Bach's dedication to the model railroad hobby.
🤣 just don't mention his rival Patrick Swayze otherwise he'll go ballistic
I saw Skid Row with Pantera in Orlando 92. Wild, wild concert.
I have used mxr distortion + and phase for 40 years. Nice shirt.
Love those Pinch Harmonics!!!
A few of my favourite albums there. Actually just heard Youth Gone Wild on radio tonight while washing the car.
KISS, Skid Row, and Nugent? In Detroit? In 2000? I was there!
Great video! I saw Skid Row in May 1992 at Alpine Valley WI. They were the headliner with Pantera, Megadeth, and Love Hate. Such a great show and good memories!
A string tuned to C , that's a new one for me , thanks for the lesson : )
Thank you so much for this 🙏

Yes🙏🏽 idk who requested this besides me but thank you David

Rattlesnake shake I think the first person to show that riff

I Remember You blew my teenage mind too.
Love all Dave's videos.
Thank‘s for that. Definitely a very important band in my youthtime.
Very informative!
Love Skid Row Riffs!
Ominous chords!
Thanks!

Yes - Skid Row! And your playing and tone sound great - much Thanks!
FINALLY!!!
Thanks bro!
I know everything but the Skids deserve it!
Wonderful episode. I always wanted to play Quicksand Jesus but never bothered to learn it. Now I have no excuse!

Very versatile guitar. Great tone, as usual. Sounds great!
Always played Quicksand Jesus in standard tuning. It was a great way to practice the muscle memory thing
Allererste Sahne 👍👍Hammergeil👍👍great Chords, great Player and nice Guitar🎸
Wow Skid Row really rock!! got to get those two albums, thank you again Dave for your awesome videos.
A forgotten band that IMO was really good
Huge Skid Row fan here ! Thank you for sharing this !
Slave to the Grind is an all time classic rock recording. I liked Subhuman Race as well. Good stuff...
Thanks, David! Skid Row always has top notch guitar work!

"Monkey Business" is my favorite Skid Row song.
The best Skid Row riff is the opening of To The Threat. My CD was scratched and Midnight Tornado was my fav song but always skipped!!!
One of my favorite bands. Scotti and Shake are two great guitarists. Great riffs great solos, thanks for the lesson Dave!
I love your videos - instructional yet paying homage at the same time ❤️

Snake and Scotti are my favorite duo. A huge influence on my playing. Great vid as always my man!
Great video thanks David. What a great band. I do miss the 80’s.
This video is so great and brings back so many memories. Saw Skid Row headline on STTG with Pantera opening on VDOP, in OKC (sorry for the abbreviations). Right in front of Dime and Scottie all night. It was my second concert and totally amazing.
Damn it I wanted Forever, that riff is dope!
Slave to the Grind is one of my favorite albums of all time. Sebastian Bach is simply my favorite singer ever
Effing love Skid Row! Such interesting chord work. Stellar lesson, as always!
Skid Row are amazing band! Thanks for this video!
I got to open for Skid Row twice. The first time was at The Channel in Boston on their first album. They were brutal.
I'm definitely going to take the leather pants out from the closet and work those riffs again. Thanks Dave!
With Rocktober right around the corner, I’m going to ask for Voivod. Please. Any era, any albums.
I love Voivod!!!!!!! Piggy RIP!!!! Thank you Chewie for studying Piggy's unique style!!!!!
Please Voivod, Piggy's playing was so absurdly complex and worthy of (at least) an episode
Great lesson Dave. Thanks for the history lesson.
'Midnight ' always makes me think it should've been on Whitesnake's 1987 album!
🤘
I wish you would have done the Sebastian Bach scream in the monkey business. It just doesnt get any better than that
great episode about a great band,,,
Awesome dude!! 🤘🤘

So thin sounding without that monster bass line under Quicksand.
Bulletboys 2nd and 3rd album riffs and licks lesson, Dangerous Toys lesson and More King Diamond licks.
And some Watchtower!!!! Maybe some Juggernaut?
superb, Skid Row was my first gig with love/hate and la.guns at the 20k london arena way back in 91 on the STTG tour when I was 14, great gig, even though Seb dropped his trousers, flashed and wiped his arse on a newspaper, all the girls went crazy haha. there was a mosh pit started by two fat chicks swinging around, no one else dared to join in..
I cannot thank you enough for this one... Quicksand Jesus has annoyed me for 30 years... and now I know why. ;)
I thought Slave To The Grind was a great album...met the guys while they were recording in Lauderdale back in 1991? I was in H.S. Great video....
👍
Great skills brother
I saw Skid Row with Pantera and Sebastian Bach said the F word like it was a period at the end of a sentence.
Never realized how close of a riff “wanted man” by ratt and the skid row “midnight” riff are.
Talking my language here :-D

Damn wtf
It’s so disrespectful to go to someone’s show and spit on them or throw stuff or boo them. That was a brave move by Sebastian
@@Johnnysmithy24 I know, it was disgusting! Never saw it before or since, but was informed that it did happen at other events. Id love to know if anyone else who was at this show in N.Ireland remembers it. I still blame the punks lol
Destroyer my kiss tribute band played Sebastian Bach's wedding. It was a blast and he sang almost have the set with us
Great one! I suggest to feature Vinnie Vincent and CC DeVille
Great episode, so sorry to be that guy, but I love Quicksand Jesus so much I’ll point out 1 correction - the last chord is always fingered like an Am7 in 1st position (E note on D string 2nd fret, open G, C note on B string 1st fret).
Chordplay - The Chords Of Armored Saint?
Skid Row was a great band....saw them several times, Baz still tours all the time.

14:25 i hear opeth
What about Chords of Danger Danger? :D
I saw Skid Row about 1996 open for Guns n Roses in New Zealand. Skid Row were absolutely awesome live! they certainly had it, a really tight live act with a lot of power.

Skid Row blew Guns n Roses off stage on the Melbourne leg of the same tour. The whole band was amazing. Definitely the highlight
Chordplay of styx? Or maybe a three tommy shaw licks.
Or, Dave Quote The Snake Unquote Sabo as he is now known according to the 30th anniversary edition LP print, oh dear, what a cock up...
Snake play 1st Bon Jersey album!
Remember a band called RIOT?
Skid Row pre-dated Nirvana with the loud chorus, soft verse dynamics in "Youth Gone Wild"...Its always good to have dynamics in songs....but they weren't too common in late 80's rock....unless you're the Pixies
Zep and Skynyrd used this style as did many others. Metallica made Fade To Black in 84. Love Skid Row but just saying
You're close...
Hey knock off all that “Monkey Business”
Johnny Solinger died 26th of june 2021!
