    When I went on holiday to Germany, the exact same thing happened to me, a German man went swimming to rescue the deer, when they got to dry land the deer was exhausted and could hardly stand, "Well done!!" I said to the German, in his broken English he said "Sankyou", he was also checking the exhausted deer like the RSPCA, I noticed this and said "Are you a vet?..."
    He then got very angry and started shouting...
    "VET? .... VET?.....I AM COMPLETELY SOAKING...."
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    Lorna, I'm so glad you finally have your boat sorted and are again enjoying the canals. The deer rescue was interesting but what I find interesting is that Shawn from Foxes Afloat recently rescued a deer also. Also, me being from Texas, the length of your trip brought a tidbit of history to mind. There's an old saying among people that crossed Texas by horse or wagon that goes, "The sun has ris' and the sun has set, and here we are in Texas yet." For you it would be, "The sun has risen and the sun has set, and here we are in London yet". Great show/vlog and I'm enjoying the narrowboat life vicariously through you!

This is the second video I've watched of you boaters taking your time to save the life of a poor animal that's stuck trying to swim around and get out. The first one I saw was Fox's A Float, saving a deer caught in a lock, I think it's wonderful of all of you guys for taking your time and putting yourself at risk for the wildlife keep up the great videos love them hope your friend gets a boat and enjoys it!

    Hi. Have just subscribed and really enjoying your videos. I fully empathise with your "incident" at Bulls Bridge, not an easy turn but I could use similar words to describe my incident back in 1970s. I was at the helm of a vintage 72ft ex British Waterways narrow boat. I had probably had a couple too many lunch time pints in a pub in Uxbridge. I was a fairly competent helmsman but like you I approached Bulls Bridge a bit too fast and the bow just did not come around in time and I certainly removed a few of the chips of concrete missing out of that wall. I only had myself to blame and the other 11 or so on board voted me off the helm for the rest of the weekend. I have been trying to remember where we tied up that night but it is too long ago now. It may have been Paddington. You could moor just about anywhere that did not restrict the canal in those days. It was not easy with a Big Woolwich boat though. Anyway thoroughly enjoying the vlogs so do please keep them coming - helps to keep us oldies sane just now as we await the jab. Keep safe!

    Apart from weeds collecting on prop do we presume the re-engineered cooling system coped?
    Did the yard flush out the block when refilling the system? As in using some sort of product?
    I wondered if years of gungy crud had accumulated in the block galleries as well as in the bottom plate skin tank.
    Have to say that was an eye opener seeing how much rubbish and weeds there was.
    Just a thought, are the prop blade edges a bit battered? I was wondering if sharper edges would have chopped up the weed.

      A canal-side house sounds appealing, and perhaps near a lock, in part because my health would prevent me from actively narrowboating, so at least their presence and passage could be enjoyed. But Social Security Disability income probably won't finance moving to another continent and purchasing such a house. But, hey, there is this RUclips channel to enjoy!

    When think the new name is better than the last. More of a statement. Always wondered about the various depths on the canals. They seem to be in need of a dredging and cleaning.

    • @t1n4444
      @t1n4444 4 года назад

      CRT funds allow a dredging budget of only so many miles in a year. Dredging takes place in different places in a year as decided by their engineering lads.
      I would suggest a lot of silt will have accumulated throughout the network because of lack of traffic keeping the silt stirred up and in suspension in the water column, so to speak.
      As the silt clears it allows sunlight to penetrate deeper into the water which results in an increase of water plants ... which in turn impedes navigation and clogs up props.
      Suspect too the greenery clogs up water intakes for raw water cooling systems. ("Raw water" cooling systems just means water is drawn or pumped in through the engine block and is returned to the canal, sometimes via the exhaust port. Don't see so many cooling systems arranged thus these days.
      And don't see or hear many air cooled engines either, as a tad noisy and "purist" for some who like the peace and quiet.)
      Anyway, not cruising a canal is a "bad thing" and this lockdown, although necessary, hasn't done us any favours ref navigation.
      I gather, from other vloggers, silt has accumulated between lock gates and lock walls which prevented gates opening wide enough to pass between.

    • @t1n4444
      @t1n4444 4 года назад

      A few dead sheep found in the rural sections of the canals is far worse that a drowned cat, filmed or not.
      Usually, as the sheep rots, methane builds up and the sheep float higher in the water.
      We generally try to avoid contact with the corpses in case the skin is punctured. The danger being that you might get sprayed with stinking corporeal matter. It must be said that despite it being a bit sad it is quite spectacular seeing a volcano of rotting meat issuing from a carcase.
      Plus there is an explosion hazard. I once saw a boater ill advisedly try to move a bloated corpse with his boat hook. The hook penetrated the skin and a jet of methane gas propelled the corpse across the waterway into a glass fibre cruiser. A mere quarter inch of fibre glass is no match for a hundred weight of bloated sheep carcase travelling at perhaps 40 knots.
      The sheep passed right through the cruiser's hull, luckily the crew had not long disembarked, and dented the steel pilings. The sheep must had a metal hip joint or identity bracelet because I saw a spark and the ensuing fireball took out about 30 ft of piling and blew the by now sinking cruiser back across the canal into a boat opposite.
      Then the gas bottles on the cruiser blew up and punctured the bed of the canal.
      That wouldn't have been too bad but unfortunately the boat which was hit by the cruiser was a fuel boat and the concussion caused that to explore too. Even that wouldn't have been too bad either but the fuel boat was moored up next to a fireworks factory.
      I was deaf for a week and also needed a full body transplant.
      When I recovered about a week later I found a marina had been built using the crater from the explosion.
      The moral from the story is that farmers should be teaching their sheep to swim to a nearby slip and simply walk out of the canal.
      I blame the kebab industry for that one.
