If anyone is looking to get the quintessential Barbour, let me save you making the mistakes I made. Get a Beaufort, finished in thornproof wax, and get it slightly oversized. Whether you are a young hipster, or an old farmer, this is the jacket you want. (edit: this jacket is a for a man, for a woman I would also say a Bedale/thornproof/oversized is also acceptable) Who agrees? 😄

Are those 2 you suggest still made in England? … I think they are, right? …. because this Ashby isn’t. I received one and returned it immediately as I could tell from previous Barbour jackets I owned it was inferior quality.

@@stemakwest7165 Yes, there is a big difference in quality and materials. Beaufort and Bedale made in England.

Im still looking to buy one of these but found the Ashby a bit too tight but love the slim fit design. Maybe a Beadale?
Also, about the Beadnell, I saw photos of the (current) Prime Minister wearing it! Must have gone overboard with the extra slim fit :D

    • @stemakwest7165
      @stemakwest7165 5 месяцев назад +1

@@tomsgarage8 can confirm the Bedale has a more relaxed fit than the Ashby and a little shorter ... but not as roomy as the Beaufort. So it's in the middle ground in that respect.

@@stemakwest7165 thank you' I'll try one of these on.
Also can someone pls confirm whether the sage or the olive will age well into that nice khaki/ military green colour with time?
I found the Ashby olive is actually brown 😵‍💫

Just got my first Barbour, you helped with my decision. It’s a Made in England Bedale in Olive. Loads of compliments. Yes it also came with a pin. Went on pub tour around Soho London with a mate. Cool. Planning a Balfour in Sage next.

Yay, love your Barbour reviews! BTW at Barbour website, there’s actually a couple new things for the Ashby. The Black Classic that you reviewed and there is a Grey Classic Tartan Ashby! Interestingly for the Ashby line there are 2 Black jackets being offered. The one you reviewed and the other is that old Black with Red Tartan lining.

Olaf said he has a hate/hate relationship with the Ashby.😂😂😂 I understand why. After 3 yrs and watching all the Barbour reviews on RUclips, I pulled the trigger. I went to my local Orvis, and tried on the Ashby, Classic Bedale, and Classic Beaufort. If you wear a 44 or 46 in suits I’d recommend that you avoid the Ashby. Despite the tartan lining composition difference, I got the Bedale in Sage (love the color), for comfort, functionality and non sport coat wear. I will eventually get the Classic Beaufort. I didn’t notice the if the Barbour pin was in the pockets from the jackets I tried on. In store did not offer the shipping / storage bag. I had them place an online order and it arrived w/ storage bag and the Barbour pin was in the right side bellow pocket.😅 Thank you Olaf for sharing your extensive knowledge on the brand. I even managed to stump the Orvis salespersons assisting me. Not a knock on them because they were extremely knowledgeable, professional, helpful, pleasant and patient. They basically gave me the run of the store. Huge shout out to the Orvis staff at Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard, IL closing its doors after 10 yrs of serving Chicago’s southwest suburbs.

Thank you for a detailed review. I find the Barbour sizing information aberrant. You and I are about the same size. You chose the Ashby medium. I got the xs (extra small). It's a bit snug, but the Ashby small was too big for me.

I tried Ashby size M and L. Not that big difference and when moving hands it feels a little bit not that moveable. So was thinking what's better to buy and what size. Beaufort classic or Bedale classic. My chest is 96cm, height 1.82m and 72kg. Could you please advise?

Olaf, the “fake vents” are covered by the cloth tartan, not the plastic sleeve liner and so they do allow the jacket to vent but not as easily as the jackets with uncovered vents.

I've got a barbour brollen and a Royston in size large, but i had to get an Ashby in extra large ,large was far too tight.6 foot 2 inches tall and 200 pounds. I got it from ebay with a hood for £70, hoods are £30 from barbour!!

Great video! One question about water resistance. You say Ashby is not as waterproof as Bedale because of the extra stitching. But is that even relevant in everyday life? Have you ever had a situation where you got wet with the Ashby jacket because of the seams? Thank you and please make more videos about Barbour, they are great!

Now I know why Queen Elizabeth wore a Beaufort and not a Bedale ,
She probably kept a spare 👑 in the rear pocket !
I had my new Beaufort delivered today , the rear pocket is massive !
To give those who don't know just how big the pocket is , I fitted not 1 or 2 but 16 rolls of toilet paper (bath paper) with ease in the pocket, which is the size of a backpack.
For practically the Beaufort has to be the best Barbour out there imo.
    Long live Barbour 🇬🇧

      Hi Olaf
      Another great video.
In fairness, Barbour are now a fashion item, lost a lot of the original country cuts.
Wearing them for the last 40 years ,can't beat the Beaufort for all round wear.
Raglan sleeves are for sporting events where you raise arms up.
      Great game pocket to.
      For me,putting quarry in.
In the city would be handy for shopping, hat etc.
Bedale is a great all rounder.
Great for sitting on a horse so don't ride up round shoulders ,opens up to put over back of saddle,no wet bottom.
Great in a land rover to.
      Great video.

I am surprised you did not post a video on the 40 Anniversary Beaufort. If you did post such a video I missed it. By the way, I have a Beaufort (Thornproof in Sage) and a Classic Bedale for years. I would not mind another Barbour Waxed Jacket - Classic Beaufort but I am not a collector. Buying a jacket that I really don't need would constitute conspicuous consumption as far as I'm concerned.

Everything on the Ashby from the collar, to the zipper does not compare to the Bedale. Feels much cheaper and in my view isn’t a real Barbour. Looks similar but you can tell it’s not the same thing when you compare the two closely
