  • Live reaction of the Kentucky Derby and a $4 exacta win on NoFilter.Net where Rich Strike, at 80-1 odds, shocked the racing world in Kentucky Derby 148. Rich Strike literally got into the derby at the last minute when Ethereal Road scratched 5 minutes before the 9am deadline on Friday. In fact the trainer, Eric Reed, had been notified that he would not be in the Derby and the derby security team had already been removed from the barn. It wasn't until 8:59am that a call came in asking if he wanted to accept the entry. The fact this horse got in was a miracle by itself but when he went on to win the race it made the story even better. I cant wait for the movie. Congrats Rich Strike and its entire team.

    What I love about this horse and this race, is that 99% of the people did not pick this 80 to 1 long shot, most people did not win money on Rich Strike, people lost money betting on other horses, yet we will ALL say, we love that Rich Strike won this race, and this was the greatest race we ever saw. That alone is a beautiful thing. Yet, once we learn all the facts of a truly epic great story, does not matter how invested we were initially, we fall in love with the horse, his owner, the jockey, the whole team, and the story of literally over coming ALL the odds stacked against them. The owner had a tragic barn fire 2 yrs ago, Rich Strike was purchased for $30,000, originally Rich Strike was not even supposed to be in the race, he was a last-minute fill-in for a scratched horse. Rich Strike was a 80 to 1 long shot, which made this one of the biggest upsets in Derby history. In the first few seconds of the race Rich Strike was dead last, at one point in the race it did not look like Rich Strike was going to be able to make it through the huge pack ahead of him. Against all odds, literally all odds, this horse ran down the entire field and won the Kentucky Derby. That will give a lot of people hope for themselves and others, for what we are going through in life. So even though millions of people did not win a dime on Rich Strike, we still love the fact that Rich Strike and the entire team won. This literally was the greatest horse race ever. God what you did for Rich Strike and his whole team, please do for America.

      Obviously he has moved up from the middle of the jockey class to the the front seats. Even one who like myself who knows little about racing can marvel at the way he maneuvered through traffic after bursting out of the far right gate to the back of the pack and perfectly reading what was ahead of him. He handled this young --and this is a young colt--as skillfully as any race driver drives his car. The shots from above show how her perfectly timed every new move. Did not wear his horse out drung that first part and then finally burst ahead, Don’t know if the horse has what it takes for the Triple Crown, but he probably will get better with age. Really feisty, like a freshman quarterback given the chance and just coming through. But this jockey is awesome. Just a nice guy showing his stuff on a big stage.

    The jockey earned his payday on this one. He kept finding gaps in the field to make his move, there was 3 different times where he needed a break to get through, and did. They also got a little lucky the field gassed themselves in the first half or more. If there had been a little more cautious pace, maybe they would have had something left in the tank to fend of Rich Strike in the end. But they didnt.... and he ran a slow first half, and had lots left.

C'mon man ! I don't believe the coincidence !

    • @suzanneyoung8011
      @suzanneyoung8011 2 года назад +3

      I believe it because Wayne Lucas is a good trainer. Ethereal Road had already run twice at Keeneland in April in The Bluegrass, and then Lucas wheeled him back a week later and ran in the Lexington Stakes which was only two weeks before the Derby. Lucas said when he scratched him that he wasn't pleased with how he was training, that he was flat. He did the right thing by the horse, because he raced him too hard in April.

      @@rudybetta No, it's not suspicious. Lucas is an 86 year old man that everyone admires. I'm sure he and his owner were hoping the horse could make it. They waited til the last day because there was no actual injury. He's just a good horseman who decided the horse needed more time before his next race. They decided to aim for the Preakness instead. It has no bearing on the fact that Rich Strike would win the race, other than it allowed him to get into the race. But Lucas certainly didn't scratch his horse to help Rich Strike or anybody else. It doesn't work that way. Nobody can know exactly what is going to happen when the gates open. Lucas knew he had a heavy favorite in Secret Oath for the Oaks. She proved that finishing 3rd against some good colts including his Ethereal Road in the Arkansas Derby.
      No one knew there would be a blistering pace in the Derby. Rich Strike's win was set up by the Japanese Horse and the other foreign horse that had also raced previously in the UAE. They had never raced over this track nor had their foreign jockeys. They went through a suicidal first half mile as if it were a 6 furlong sprint race, which allowed Rich Strike to come up the rail and pass tiring horses. Without those crazy fast frontrunners he doesn't come from behind and win. Wayne Lucas couldn't have known any of that, so nothing suspicious at all.
