@@icarussbungeecord7779 I was talking about his talent being underestimated. Playing in big Hollywood blockbusters doesn't require actors to be particularly talented, just to be charismatic. Marvel movies aren't Chekhov.
Denis has to one day do a debrief on how he made this film because Brolin, Benicio, and Emily Blunt all say when they were making this film they were sure they were making a turd. That’s some next level Jedi mind trick directing.
On paper it sounds like a B movie from the early 2000s that's directed by Isaac Florentine. The director, the cast and the cinematography are what elevated this material imo.
i don't believe those actors said it - those are professional actors, Brolin, Benicio, Blunt - they read the script, and they agreed to be in it. What A-List cast would want to torpedo their career by being in a "turd" ?

He is enticing because he is confident in his goals and knows what he wants. And doesn't apologize for it or second guess it. Its something that everyone wants, but not necessarily always the "best man for the job".

He should have won the Oscar for "W" for sure just nailed that role. It's crazy to see him in Goonies so young and now he is compelling in any movie he stars in kind of like Tommy Lee Jones in his later career.
The Dead Immortal I've seen him in dozens of movies since I was a kid. Snatch, The Usual Suspects, 21 Grams, Traffic, Che, Sin City, Hunted, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas... Those are the ones I've seen anyway.
Playstation Elation So have I, but that doesn't make him "one of the most requested actors in Hollywood" lmao By that standard literally every actor in Hollywood is the most requested actor in Hollywood because I've seen them in dozens of movies over the past decades.
Very interesting. I often see the actors, directors, etc. in really great movies say they weren't sure whether the movie was going to be great when they were filming it. This is some of what Brolin says in the interview. A really seductive movie that has the feel of being authentic to real CIA operations (as much as I know about such things). It is an ensemble movie with Brolin and Benicio standing out.
Sometimes dark, depressing film sets need a little levity or humor between scenes, lol. It reminds me of interviews with Patrick Stewart where he tried to take things WAY too overly-seriously in the beginning of TNG, yelling at the crew and treating them as children for trying to joke or laugh between work. But, he eventually realized he was wrong and realized you can still work seriously and get stuff done while still maintaining some level of levity/fun that helps ease the tension and ultimately can result in an overall more productive film/TV set at the end of the day when done right ;)
It's cool listening to actors talk about working with directors. When the actor can't tell what is happening yet keeps on because they trust yo, that quality separates great directors from master directors.
This is a tremendous movie with perfect acting, direction, photography, etc. It feels like you are inside this world and that it is real. And it's probably not too far off, sadly...
I once had a dream that they turned a childhood game I used to play (Starcraft) into a movie, and Josh Brolin played James Raynor... Absolutely perfectly cast hahaha.
Sounds to me like he maybe argued with Dennis about how the movie should be cuz he is Josh Brolin the guy who was in No Country For Old Men and the Coen Bros taught him this or that... then he saw how good the movie was and now feels dumb and is trying to explain it as levity on set made him irritable.
Great statements by Brolin. I'm breathlessly waiting to see, in Sicario III, to see whether his tries to rescue Alejandro and Isabel, or whether he tries to bury the problem of his conscience with a GAU-17 Gatling Gun.
Sicario, the 1st one, is probably one of the b e s t movies I have ever seen. It seems as though watching the movie at the end of filming was a humbling experience for him.
I wonder if he will take this attitude into Soldano, if he can/does, his character should get a solo film for part 3, because he would have pulled me right into the cause.

I'm listening to him halfway thru this interview remembering an article that expressed how he and majority of the cast DID NOT believe in this picture. That there were strong apprehension about the dir Denis Vilaneuve. But they were all "pleasantly surprised" after watching when it was finished. Interesting....
I love the scene where Brolin is sitting at a desk after the op and the boss lady comes up and ask how it's going, and he holds up his arm where he got shot, and says, "It's a Monday."
@@acevfx2923 , yeah, that's a good scene. And, then she asks what happened and Steve tells her and she said I didn't ask you, and then Brolin repeats word for word what Steve said.
The sequel actually holds up to the first in the sense that it didn't lower the bar but it didn't do anything new either. Its also written by Taylor Sheridan, whose projects are always great. It's a solid continuation of the story and VERY good considering the sequels director had NEVER shot a movie of that scope. He'd only directed TV commercials up until that point. I always thought that Brolin would have been perfect as Roland Deschain fron Kings "Dark Tower" books. I think a 5 season 10 episode series would have been perfect. 👍😎
The title is completely misleading and should be corrected. Brolin was not irritated by the levity on set. He spoke of having to balance himself offset, so when he was playing angry, frustrated characters on camera, he would then go out and have fun after shooting that day. Thus, because the director kept a sense of levity on set, Brolin found himself subconsciously balancing himself by being frustrated OFFSET at the end of the day. He was not irritated BY the levity on set. The title makes it sound like he takes his job too seriously and expects others to do the same.
