As a patient (and nurse), I don’t care how you look, I care about your bedside manner, knowledge, and honesty. When a doctor tells me that something is out of their scope of practice and sends me to someone else, I appreciate that honesty. I’m surprised people are so shallow about your looks.
I wish doctors would listen. I miss having one that listens to me and takes me seriously. Especially since I got hit by a car and got crappy care at my local hospital the day I was hit.
I had a kinda scary-looking woman who was a WONDERFUL GP and i have one current specialist who is petite and beautiful and i love her too! "Looks" count for precisely zero in what makes a good doctor.
Well said! My own doctor is an average-good looking man, but young enough to be my son. I only notice his looks so I can say hello to him if I see him outside the office. But it's his knowledge, his willingness to listen to his patients, including his senior ones (like me), and his willingness to research anything he's not sure of, or to ask another doctor if that's what needs to be done.
Fact about the Internet: EVERY person with a big audience who makes statements about controversial topics receives death threats. I know it's fucked up but that's how it is unfortunately
It’s actually really beneficial for his platform that he’s as attractive as he is. He catches attention and then people actually learn something. I’m glad that he’s been able to stay as humble and real as he has with all the attention. That can’t have been easy.
For me, he may be attractive, but all these years, I never bothered watching. Until recently, when I realized how nerdy, cute, wholesome and dorky he is. THAT is why I'm here now. His attractiveness is just a fun bonus. lol And how much he loves Bear like a child. That's just as huge for me.
@@nicholrw8260 That’s fair, and I’m definitely not a pay attention to pretty person. It was his personality and information for me too. I was saying that it’s beneficial for those who are drawn by the attractive factor to still get valuable information.
He seems so warm. His energy. It’s so warm. Even when his veins are popping out of his neck. I just wanna give him a pre-quarantine hug. He seems nice lol.
Very impressive to see someone balance SO much on their plate, and with grace. You don't get enough credit. Hope wearing a mask is helping a bit with the anonymity!
Julie Is cool ok you didn’t have to be so rude. I literally did nothing to you. Why are you coming at me with all that hatred? It’s literally pointless.
I am a female physician, and I am sorry I have not discovered your channel until now! I had to laugh at your last discussion about being “too beautiful“ to practice medicine. I found that as soon as I started getting my gray hair, I was basically finding that patients were more easily taking my recommendations, I would hear a lot more “whatever you think is best doc“ , “ I trust you doc”. Ageism at its best!😄 now that I am all gray, I have colored my hair magenta!😆
That checks out lol...even for male doctors. I had a relatively old doctor (Dr. Weisser) who retired, then I switched to a younger one, around 35 years of age. I just don't trust him as much as I did the other guy. But then again, that may be psychological since I had my previoous doctor for the past 15 years.
Do you consider some of that comes with the appearance of gray hair as the impression that you are now more experienced in the field? There is something to be said for experience. No offense, but if I am in a hospital, or a walk in clinic, and was asked if I wanted to be seen by the 28 yr old only out of med school now for a year, or a 48 yr old that theres a 30 minute wait for, depending on the level of pain, I might patiently wait for the person that I perceive as the more experienced in their field. Now is that fair? Maybe not fully, but experience cant be discarded either. There is absolutely fields where ageism is a poor thing to decide a decision on, but medical input, maybe not.
While this is an excellent point, there very much is another end of that spectrum too. While all doctors are required to do continuing medical education, it's more likely that the younger doctors would have the most up to date medical knowledge. For example, a surgeon who recently completed their residency might know less invasive techniques that have been recently developed, which could lower your pain, recovery time, or even likelihood of fatality. An older surgeon on the other hand might not be capable of performing such a procedure since it's harder to keep up with new techniques when you're also busy practicing medicine and engaging in outside life. While I understand we all have our own biases, the best approach in my opinion would be to evaluate each doctor individually on how well they are treating you/ taking your concerns seriously. My best experiences are usually those where the first half hour is spent just discussing everything before beginning any sort of examination, and my outcomes from doctors where this has been the case have been phenomenal. @@Canadagraphs
"Why be a doctor when you couldve been a model?" I hate it when people put you in a box based on what they see on the outside. You could be either or you could be both and that's a call that only you can make. It's up to you to be who or what you want to be and I hate the fact that many people still don't get that. Ughhhhhhh
And besides such an question says a lot about the idiocy of the person asking it. Has their priority wrong big time. Beauty is vanishing, intelligence - not necessarily.
See i understand the question differently. I feel like they are trying to say that a model earns more money and they think its an easier job so why wouldn't person want to do that compare to being a doctor, which is hard and high pressure job.
@@ZuziFox Agreed. I think the nature of the question is more in line with the thought that anyone can become a doctor... with a decade of hard work (and I know even that's not really true) but very few people have the natural gifts to become a model, and that seems to take WAY less effort.
As a women so many times I’ve tried to get a job as a painter or anything that is male dominated and they just look me up and down and say “you do realize this is hard work….” I’ve had painting companies tell me they loved that I had experience but decided to go with men. Idk why people have to be so judgmental all the time! I love your videos. I love smart people! We need more people like that in the world.
What you just described the up and down look thing, is actually called elevator eyes, and can be considered sexual harassment. So let people know what you know, what you are ready, able and willing to do, and let the best company and people win!
I did construction for years when I was in my 20’s. I hung drywall. I was surprised that I never had to deal with ignorance. It was a little hard to work when men from other crews would stare at me though. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I had a boss tell me that I was one of his best workers. I think that’s because women are probably more about perfectionism. I dont know. I was quick & good at my job. It felt good to get acknowledged without anyone bringing up my looks. 😊
I work in a hardware store and sometimes customers ask for male employee, or don't listen to me even though I have the answer and my collegue does not, it angers me so much. Ok I can't lift something which is my weight but I know my limits and have skills, knowledge and brain >_
"Why did you become a doctor when you could have been a model?" If nothing else, the job security's better. A doctor who is 45 years old can still be a doctor.
Maybe someone wanted to do the other thing. I learned that after asking my doctor why he wanted to be a pediatrician (he got a full ride to medical school and could have done anything). He just wanted to be a pediatrician.
@@hollyshane2604, there are plenty of personal reasons to become a doctor, and I don't intend to belittle any of them. I just thought it was worth pointing out that there are practical reasons to choose doctoring over modeling that apply across the board.
A model’s career is much shorter. I would say after late 30’s is much harder for a man to get a job as a model, at least in the catwalk, and in the 40’s it becomes harder to get a job anywhere.
@@camillatruquesdebeleza7086 You could take over the job from your employers when you get to that age. There are also plenty of commercials featuring middle-aged people. ‘Why did you become a doctor when you could’ve been a model? I really hate those type of questions. I get them sort of the other way around. I’m a bus driver. I’m also fairly smart. People often ask me questions like ‘Why’d you become a bus driver when you could’ve become a lawyer or a doctor?!’ ‘If I was that smart I would’ve never become a bus driver, but I would’ve definitely go on to study something important!’ (first of all I think my job is equally as important... I’m the one driving the nurses and doctors safely to their work) ‘You could make so much more money if you become a doctor or a lawyer!’ etc. You wanna know why I became a bus driver? ‘Cause that’s what I wanted since I was a little girl. I love my job. I don’t wanna be a doctor. I don’t wanna be a lawyer. I wanna drive a 60ft bus around the city, so leave me be. Dr. Mike, I've been on this planet for 65 years, and I am so thankful that we have doctors like you! I am seeing more and more young doctors, particularly D.O.s, practicing family medicine with empathy, truthfulness and kindness. The WORLD NEEDS doctors like you! Keep up the good work! Your parents must be very proud of you!
I am with you. I was just talking about this very topic. I was saying how much so like the young doctors. They talk with you much more freely. It has finally go into med schools that patients are whole people. It shows.
I had the most devastating thing said to me the other day when I told my grandma I wanted to become a doctor. She told me "you need to go for a more realistic job" and "you aren't capable of it". This hurt so much because EVERYONE in my family has been pushing me to go to school and to get a job and when I FINALLY decided I wanted become a doctor, they shot me down. It really, really hurts to hear that especially from family members. After hearing the last part of this video I realized that I shouldn't give up. I should prove my family wrong!
Instead of doing it eith the mindset to prove them wrong, do it because it's something you want to do. My family isn't supportive either, but when I focus on what they think even if it's "im not going to be like you" or "im going to prove your wrong" im giving them too much importance and wasting time thinking about them even if it's to show them up. Distancing yourself from downers is honestly the healthiest.
I once failed an interview for housekeeping because the hiring Director felt that "it would be a waste for someone with my looks to work as a cleaner". At the time I was really poor and was struggling to eat, but I was happy I could apply for a job that not only was well paying but also I knew I would genuinely like since I absolutely love cleaning. So imagine my shock and disappointment when the only reason given to why I wasn't hired was because she felt that it would be a waste for my looks. Like ma'am, my looks will neither feed me nor keep me happy wth? 😅
Her looks get her the job she had and she look at you as some one that would take her job away form her and she needs to me the good looking one to make her feel better i hope you get a job that look at you as a person and not just a good looking person but a good person

I find another common addition to the entire “attractive must equal dumb” is that nurses only start in the field to marry a doctor! ESPECIALLY if you are considered “conventionally attractive!” This can also create another degree of detrimental separation within the healthcare team if one of the members within that team have this mentality. Nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, etc are NOT necessarily less intelligent than the doctors on a team; they merely have a different role within that team whose goal should be to work together for the best possible outcome of the patient!!
Mani32, nurses go to a specific school that is based on evidence based practice, the same as doctors, but geared with a different scope and philosophy. Nursing school is also shorter than medical school. Fun fact, nursing is considered one of the most difficult degrees to obtain in the American collegiate system.
All the time! It's always "you can't help me, I want the doctor". Like yes I can answer your questions about your medications or about your test results. I have gone to school for this too as well as have worked in the field for 7 years now. I dont have a doctorate but I do have a medical degree of my own. There's also the fact that people just with nursing is a step to being a doctor. While for many it could be, nursing is a valid degree and career choice in its own right. I am allowed to want to stop at the title nurse, however that looks to those with the degree. A CNA can strive for being a RN without ever considering becoming a Nurse Practioner, or even beyond that.
Unfortunately, due to too many celebrity docs who have used the title on public media or have written books giving health advice without medical training, the general public have become uncertain if the advisors are actually medically licensed. It's comforting to be reassured that you are a true medical doctor.
Yeah, but in my experience ugly/not skinny people aren't taken seriously either, but are tremendously underestimatet and are just perceived as dumb, for no good reason. (Story of my life)

It feels sooooo good when you prove everyone wrong though. When I was in high school I decided to join the wrestling team. I wasn't fat, but not super muscular either. "Husky" is the right term I guess. My teammates underestimated me and berated me right from the start. What they didn't know is that my dad was a professional cage fighter, and that I probably knew as much or more about grappling and submission techniques. What I didn't know was the rules when it comes to wrestling. So when everyone saw my first sparring partner(who was a bit bigger and more muscular than me)on the ground in tears from an arm bar everyone gave me the respect I deserved...and coach wasn't too happy about his star wrestler getting wrecked, and explained to me that you couldn't do moves like that in that style of wrestling. I only lost two matches that season as a brand new wrestler. Be open to criticism, but never disrespect.
I remember people used to laugh when I said I wanted to be a nurse because I am an immigrant with a very thick accent. Guess what? I became a LPN and decided to keep going to school and as now I am a BSN- RN working in an intensive care unit and I am also a family nurse practitioner student ... so if I did you could absolutely do it !!!

Long story short when I was leaving that company I was nicknamed "IT Queen", almost everyone knew me but not our manager, and dozens of people predicted dark times.. xD
When my mother was in high school she had a friend in her grade who's school counselor told her she couldn't be a nurse bccause "people like you(Hispanic) can't handle it" (This was 1950). Saying someone is ”talented” is also unjust to them, they’ve put a lot of effort and time into developing that skill and implying it’s just some natural talent they possess discredits all that work
“Why be a doctor when you could have been a model?”. This question seems to me like its more about the money than your capabilities. Like, why did you become a doctor when you are handsome enough to be a model, a job with much more income. Or a job with approximately the same income but much less responsibility. The question seems like its hiding the assumption that you became a doctor for the money. The answer is obviously because these are completely different jobs and you just love medicine, but, unfortunately , for a lot of people their choice of field is based on income and not on interest.
@@sgbench I'm not the original commenter but I'd bet that the people asking the model question are assuming he would 100% be one of those models that makes it big. No offense to Dr. Mike, he definitely looks like he puts a lot of effort into his appearance and health, but the reality is probably more like any other artistic/expressive career... some luck is needed to make it big even when you look great. But I don't think people are thinking that far into it when they ask an offhanded question like that. Also from what I've heard, not all doctors make a whole lot of money! If a doctor decides to start their own practice they have to make sure their specialty isn't already flooded in that area and it's probably pretty expensive to run an office. Definitely needs passion for their specialty, or they'll sink. I don't wanna speculate too much on Dr. Mike's financial stuff but it seems like he's at least doing well, so sorry about my unrelated tangent lol. I know you were talking about the average doctor but it's something I think about a lot.
@@rayanrahmani9838 And way, WAY more negatives to count being a model. I guess people seriously don't understand how awful that industry is on all fronts.
That is not great advice. You should definitely work hard, but you need to show what you are doing and why it's important. There are lots of people who tune out the noise of your work.
Here are the things I know about Dr. Mike outside of being a doctor: - He plays basketball - He has nephews - He donates to charities - He's a dog lover

I respect that you are open and honest about being popular and that you use your fame to make your medical career better! I’m so sick of false modesty! Lol, I actually think it’s the other way around. In this society, beautiful people are taken way too seriously - movie stars, models... that’s why they put them on the cover of things, marketing. Unfortunately, it sells. Beautiful things are commodities.
7:10 why is creators getting death such a common thing!, it’s such a disturbing concept to think about, I could under the (illogical) reasons for “why it happens”, when it’s a very controversial issue/creator that people have strong opinions about etc, but it’s so prevalent in so many creators it’s just crazy.
Not quite the same thing but I was hesitant to get into the trade field because I had the assumption that many of the people in that field were "meatheads." And granted many of the people are more shall we say... Gruff, some of the smartest people I have ever meet are in my field. Break those walls people put up for you.
I am a board-certified anesthesiologist, 20+ years. You have NO idea how offensive it is to have to explain, sometimes multiple times a day, that I am a physician. That I have a degree from an accredited medical school. That the surgeon and I were classmates (well, that only happened twice). That, functionally, yes I'm a drug pusher but my role in any patient's care is infinitely more important. BTW, no one has ever mistaken me for a model. They've instead mistaken me for housekeeping, patient transport, customer service, administration--- occasionally, another will assume I'm a nurse. It is not my intention to minimize the various roles any person may assume on a hospital staff, but I had the same education you did.
I have high regard for anesthesiologists. There are so many factors you have to keep in mind for every procedure, lot of math and calculating what is needed to safely anesthetize a patient and keep them at a consistent level.
See thats shocking to me. During the brief period that i wanted to be a doctor, I specifically wanted to be an anesthesiologist because I thought that was one of the coolest jobs around. I mean, your job is the only thing that makes surgery POSSIBLE. Without you, every operation would be an absurdly traumatic and horrifying experience that probably ends in death 3 out of 4 times from shock, rushed work causes issues, and accidents due to thrashing patients screaming till their vocal cords shred. Yeah the surgeon able to treat a blood vessel in the brain about to rupture may get all the glory, but you are the only reason it can even be tried in the first place.
@D Boogman I don't understand, what is your point? Are you saying someone should have the Right to send death threats to a doctor, or that we should be able to find the sender of such letters and arrest them? What is the connection?
The Noisy Spectator I think he’s saying that because most of the population viewing is in the US, and the US has freedom of speech, and everyone abuses that freedom, that’s the reason that he’s receiving death threats. I could be wrong though
My 50 year old doctor who I had for 10 years left the practice and was replaced by a doctor just out or her residency who to me, an intelligent woman in her 70's, came on with an ego so big that how dare I question her, or as other health professionals questions and base my decisions for myself on all the information I have gathered ! She had the unprofessional nerve to call me "sweetheart" . I informed her she could call me Ms. ......... from now on and I proceeded to look for another doctor. Baby Docs really turn me off !

Thank you for addressing the stereotypes associated with being a professional and also being physically attractive. I’ve found in a lot of my jobs that when I progress quickly, other people automatically assume that I must be sleeping with the boss. This type of thinking fuels the assumptions that 1) women can’t progress like men professionally unless they’re sleeping their way up the ladder and 2) that all of my hard work means nothing. So I appreciate you passionately addressing the fact that attractive people can be smart too and can succeed based on their brains, not just their looks.
Yes. I don't have that problem professionally, but if you're an attractive woman who is into geek culture (comic books, sci-fi, superhero movies, etc.), you get an incredulous reaction. Apparently, nerds/geeks can't be attractive either. :(
I'm a man and what I hate the most about that assumption is the victim blaming.Because everytime someone assumes an attractive woman"slept with the boss"they *NEVER* imply that THE BOSS should be fired because he sexual harassed that woman, they always talk like the woman did everything by herself and the boss had no responsibility whatsoever. And,to be clear,I ALSO mean that when talking about women who *actually* make the 1st move...if you're a responsable professionist AND a decent person *you-just-REFUSE!* If a woman tells you she wants to sleep with you to get a job YOU-SAY-NO!And if you don't, you get at least 50% of the blame!😤
"Being financially successful is great, but I'll never do it on the expense of my patients or you, my viewers." Best line from Dr. Mike I really admire your work ethics and how amazing you came to be the person you are today. I wish you could be my doctor. Guess I'll have to move to NJ haha. Btw, your head looks big in this video hahaha jkjk I think it's the lighting
No kidding, a lot of doctors will sell out to a drug company giving them free games of golf or something... that's why now there's so so many laws against that stuff now...like marketers now can't spend more than a certain amount of money on one practice in a calendar year, etc. it had become a huge problem before all the laws were passed. The thing is the way he says it here truly does seem like he means it, you can tell when someone's not telling the truth. He's sincere.
Sometimes, we forget that these "beautiful" people has their own struggles too. Everyone just assumes that good looking people don't even have to try and they just need to look pretty, as if that's all they got. I have a friend who experienced a similar struggle. She was the prettiest in our team but our co-workers often have these side comments whenever she achieved something remarkable and eventually got promotion. They always assume that she got it because she "slept her way through it to the bosses" to make it. Freaking disgusting and disrespectful at the same time, her looks that supposed to be a good thing became her biggest disadvantage in everything she does because it always voids her hardwork. Luckily, she transferred somewhere else with a better environment that actually recognizes her capabilities, and not just being looked at as "another pretty face".
@FIFA07Pro Wtf. That’s not the message the original comment was trying to make. Stop making this about something else when it’s not important to the video or comment. It’s annoying when people do that.
I was very pretty at a young age and was bullied and had a lot of misinformation thrown away because my female peers wanted to eliminate the competition.. and I was used as a trophy then a person by my boy friend. Now I'm fat and I can definitely see the difference , being beautiful people are nice to your face but your objectified .. when your average or ugly.. half the time you don't even exist. I was myself the whole time and I hated this contrast . My husband never treated me differently skinny or fat he always said I was beautiful, and treated me the same way .. we were best friends in high school. Not saying you can't be attractive fat but I don't find it appealing and make strides to be healthy , I just made a lot of poor eating choices and stopped working out that I have to make up for . I hate it but I do the same thing .. if someone isn't all that appealing to the eye i tend to distance myself unintentionally.. its nature to reject things you don't have any gain from
Being pretty certainly makes things easier in life, but being too pretty or attractive will most likely end in getting too much attention. That can end in two ways and it can be either too good or really bad.
I actually loved seeing the sun setting and darkening sky behind you during this video. It's a subtle reinforcement that actually you're putting time and effort into these creations, not just reeling off something as if it's unimportant. Thank you.
Ageism is a huge problem with a lot of industries too. As a guitar center employee, I constantly would have someone walk up to me upon entering the store, and immediately ask for someone more professional and experienced. I knew not to get offended, but when I would try to offer help or advice to an issue, many times the person would leave and just say they’ll wait for the older guy when he’s working. The issue was that i was early 20’s but have decent knowledge of analog and digital audio production, while most employees there just specified in guitars or drums. I’m very knowledgeable on those as well, but trying to explain that I was the audio guy, and that I had the most experience out of anyone in the store in that department, rarely gave anyone the chance to actually listen and consider that I wasn’t even trying to make a sale or push a credit card on them, but genuinely just try to help out however I can. It was very frustrating
Just a note...when Dr. Mike says “they’re being unethical” he’s not speaking about the person asking (they didn’t make an oath to “do no harm”)...he’s speaking of the doctor who may chose to answer that persons question. It seemed a bit unclear to me as he spoke, so I just wanted to clarify that. I have a license and that happens all of the time!
Putting a licensed professional in a position where they could slip up and provide advice or direction that would make them liable to damages seems pretty unethical to me. Even if both parties mean well in their actions, it doesn't make one or the other more or less 'right.'
Texas Tiger yea...most people really don’t mean to be and just don’t think of it as ill-mannered. And some even get a little pissy when I tell them I won’t diagnose them at a party...on the street...in bed...wherever. (Ok...the last one was a joke, but it happens almost anywhere). And howdy from Texas (Dallas).
Most of us feel bad because people think we are not attractive. Dr mike knows he looks good but he is still offended when people ask him why he became a doctor because he looks good. He’s not offended because they are saying he’s so beautiful or handsome. He’s offended because they are implying that good looking people are dumb or should only have careers in modeling. If he’s smart and wants to be a doctor then he should be able to do that. I’m actually really proud of him for saying that. It proves that looks aren’t everything whether you look good or not.
Sometimes I have to asks "Are you the doctor or the nurse". Sometimes it's not obvious. We deal a lot now with nurse practitioners. I'm always polite, no matter who I'm dealing with. I was raised to respect everyone. There have been a few doctors I haven't respected in my lifetime, but I'm still nice to them, I just find another doctor.
That's probably because we ugly people are jealous of those who are beautiful and on top of that competent and smart 😅.. I am not trying to justify this behaviour tho
Unfortunately, people tend to be a lot nicer to you when you are pretty :/ However, attractive people often deny it because they think they have experienced the hate that some "ugly" people go through. When you are attractive people also think that you can do more with your life in terms of careers and goal accomplishing. This is because whether it is illegal or not, some employers will hire you based off the way you look and not your qualifications.
Imagine they give a long story explaining it and you wind up knowing the model's entire life, and the story somehow involves war, a moving truck conspiracy, and cats
Anesthesiologist goes on vacation with his wife. On the flight home he's sitting in coach and hears over the intercom "if there is an anesthesiologist on board, please come to first class cabin immediately." Guy shrugs it off. Five minutes later, another announcement: "we need an anesthesiologist to the first class cabin immediately." Guy isn't gonna go, but his wife is getting upset and tells him he has a duty to act. Anesthesiologist walks up to the first class cabin and finds a stewardess. He introduces himself and asks what the problem is. Stewardess points to a middle aged man reading a Dan Brown book. "See that guy?" she says. "Yes, he looks fine to me" responds the anesthesiologist. "Well," responds the stewardess, "you see, he's a surgeon, and he needs his overhead light adjusted."

Ageism at its best!😄 now that I am all gray, I have colored my hair magenta!😆
you go girl!
Pop off girl boss

I hate it when people put you in a box based on what they see on the outside.
I totally agree. Stop trying to fix people into boxes based on your assumptions about how people should act.

Can you imagine if Dr Mike was your actual doctor?? You have the flu and you stroll in all congested with a fever and Dr Mike walks in? I would be dead. LOL.
That'd be a real black mark on his record. "Entered treatment room, patient expired."
Why do you need to go to the hospital for the flu? I never did. Especially after elementary school
And I rarely got it in the first place. If I did I didn't mind much
Actually I would ask him if he's willing to try it. Well. The thing I want/need and he could maybe provide if I was to also make him happy? It would make me feel good inside
Haha I think I’d be very poorly a lot of the time 😂
I thought the most offensive question would be, "So, doc, how many patients have you killed?"
That's my favorite question
Yeah true
Seems more personal than offensive.
That is usually the answer to the question for jobs with those types of dynamics, many other jobs too
I've heard doctors, particularly gynecologists, hate it when people ask if they get turned on while examining an attractive woman. I assumed that would be the most offensive.

Go for it... Although Anatomy is a real killer
@@meredits388 To me it’s physiology lol but I get what you mean

What she did makes no sense. Isn't that discrimination??

To be a nurse you still need to go to medical school right?
Wich means they were at least smart enough to finish that.
Mani32, nurses go to a specific school that is based on evidence based practice, the same as doctors, but geared with a different scope and philosophy. Nursing school is also shorter than medical school. Fun fact, nursing is considered one of the most difficult degrees to obtain in the American collegiate system.
@@zebrastrong9291 ☝🏽this!!!
Social worker in America usually have a Masters degree as far as I know so... yeah prolly not stupid lol

I didn't have that much strength as her but I still turned it out somehow :) Now I am a SysAdmin in IT so a male field as well. Previously I was IT Helpdesk Lead and had 8 guys, most of them younger, answer to me. At first people would come into the room and try to talk to the oldest guy in the room, or at least A GUY, and they would always direct those people to me or ask me what to do.
So the young woman went to nursing school anyway, passed of course, took her diploma and went back to the school in full white uniform, and waved the document in front of the counselor, saying "See! See?"
My HS counselor told me in 1966 that, as a girl, I had no business applying to university, since I could only get a job as a secretary. I became a National Merit Finalist, valedictorian at graduation, and received a Regents’ Scholarship to UCLA (as well as scholarship offers from two other universities). I guess I showed him.

Do you really think the average model makes more money than the average doctor?
@@sgbench famous models? Yeah they do.
Lol, I actually think it’s the other way around. In this society, beautiful people are taken way too seriously - movie stars, models... that’s why they put them on the cover of things, marketing. Unfortunately, it sells. Beautiful things are commodities.
7:10 why is creators getting death such a common thing!, it’s such a disturbing concept to think about,
I could under the (illogical) reasons for “why it happens”, when it’s a very controversial issue/creator that people have strong opinions about etc,
but it’s so prevalent in so many creators it’s just crazy.
Not quite the same thing but I was hesitant to get into the trade field because I had the assumption that many of the people in that field were "meatheads." And granted many of the people are more shall we say... Gruff, some of the smartest people I have ever meet are in my field. Break those walls people put up for you.
There are all types of people doing all types of work and, as a society, we need them all. You do you.
@Marie Whitbread 1 experience does not describe everybody
Indian super specialisation in surgery is one of the hardest and longest studying courses, if you studied from government colleges that is.
I’m an undergrad hoping to become and anesthesiologist! I fell in love because like you said Anesthesia is so much more than people think.

I totally agree. It's an issue I've dealt with a bit and it's super frustrating because it just diminishes all my hard work to get to where I am.
Those ppl are prolly just jealous from your appearance
I'm glad I don't have to deal with that! Perks of being unattractive 😅
The problem is so many things online are fake, people don't know who to trust as real.
"Being financially successful is great, but I'll never do it on the expense of my patients or you, my viewers." Best line from Dr. Mike

That’s sad. People are just jealous
@FIFA07Pro
Wtf. That’s not the message the original comment was trying to make. Stop making this about something else when it’s not important to the video or comment. It’s annoying when people do that.
That sounds a lot like "light skin privilege". A light skin person who does work hard to achieve things gets discredited because of skin color.
Thank you.
David Gardiner how did I literally not notice that?
Thank you for clarifying.
But also it is kinda a jerk move to do that to a random Doctor you hardly know
Putting a licensed professional in a position where they could slip up and provide advice or direction that would make them liable to damages seems pretty unethical to me.
Even if both parties mean well in their actions, it doesn't make one or the other more or less 'right.'

I was raised to respect everyone. There have been a few doctors I haven't respected in my lifetime, but I'm still nice to them, I just find another doctor.
I had a girl I worked with tell me ALL THE TIME “at least you’re pretty” as if that’s all I had. It was so beyond frustrating
That's probably because we ugly people are jealous of those who are beautiful and on top of that competent and smart 😅.. I am not trying to justify this behaviour tho
It helps being pretty
Unfortunately, people tend to be a lot nicer to you when you are pretty :/ However, attractive people often deny it because they think they have experienced the hate that some "ugly" people go through. When you are attractive people also think that you can do more with your life in terms of careers and goal accomplishing. This is because whether it is illegal or not, some employers will hire you based off the way you look and not your qualifications.
For some reason, some people treat looks like a personality trait. Idk why it's a thing honestly
