I'm from north west Ohio, two of our family friends played against lebron, I think they said three times, all three in the regional round of our state tournament. They said they'd never seen someone so fast, tall, and well coordinated. He was playing at a pro level against a bunch of small town farm boys.
I was thinking Pistol Pete might be mentioned. I could find no stats whatsoever for him as a high schooler. He attended a military school after High school and before LSU and averaged 33 ppg. I can't believe he wasn't a high scorer in HS... Another great vid NS, but then, aren't they all! Thanks!
Benjamin (benji) Wilson. He was was ranked as the number 1 high school player in the country in the 80s and was also the first player from Chicago to win that honor. He helped his high school Simeon vocational school win their first championship ever. He was also 6’9’’. He received numerous scholarship offers from schools such as: Illinois, dupage and Indiana. You most likely never heard of him because in his senior year in 1984 he was tragically shot and killed . People were left wondering what would could been if he didn’t get shot and played college ball and in the NBA .
@@BAA188 yeah man Benji wore number 25 and Derrick chose to wear his number in high school (and later in the pros). Jabari Parker did the same thing when he was at Simeon

Im from Jersey and went to Highschool in the early 2000s so Dujuan Wagner was a God to us. He is the greatest basketball player I have seen with my own eyes. He dropped 50 pts on us and didn't even sweat. But at the same time Lebron James came right after him and he was bigger and badder I just didnt see him up close.
Yeah, in general the players just weren't as athletic, strong, fast, and agile, and most of the guys from back then have no problem admitting that. It was a different game, but Kareem was so good even today he would do well, and most likely dominate.
Others that should be mentioned Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan Blake Griffin Wes Unseld Elvin Hayes Pete Maravich Oscar Robertson Jerry West Larry bird Elgin Baylor
An additional factoid, seeing as we are talking only about their High School careers: Scholastic Magazine named Wilt the "Greatest High School Athlete of All Time". Not just the greatest basketball player, the greatest High School athlete, period. Jim Thorpe and [best female] Babe Didrikson Maharis rounded out the top three.
Lebron just bc of comp. Dude could've came out before senior year and was one of the few guys to ever outlive the hype....and his Hype was the an all time great lmfao. Lebron all the way
Lebron had the hype, but he also had the work ethic of an MJ. He optimizes his skills. Even to this day he practices and tries to improve every day. His teammates say his whole life revolves improving his basketball game both individually and team wise. His work ethic combined with talent is a big reason he became as good as he did.

Kareem and Lebron were probably about equal in terms of dominance back then. The world was different back then so Kareem didn't get as much recognition in that time for his skill in high school, but looking back now Kareem may have been even better than Lebron in high school according to some people. I say about equal in high school myself. I have MJ as the GOAT Lebron as 2 and Kareem 3 overall in the GOAT debate though.

Lebron James
