When I was a kid I used to play the Holy Diver record with a tennis racket as if it were a guitar. I was fascinated by DIO and the image of its covers. Many years later I was able to see it twice and despite its age I was not disappointed. In addition to his perfect concerts, he was a great professional, a great worker in the music industry. He left his skin at every concert and always involved the fans, he always transmitted good energy to us. The little man was the biggest voice in heavy metal. unrepeatable.
I was blessed to have seen his greatness in 1984 headlining a tour with Dokken. Having seen so many greats of rock and metal, that Dio concert in 1984 still stands out as one of the most special, most moving and most powerful I have seen. It started with that blood curdling scream and became some two hours of heavy metal art. No disrespect to the other greats, they are/were great too, but Dio was a rare gem who is so badly missed today. Bless him.
Yep! I saw them on that tour also. We skipped a few periods that morning to get tickets. A nice mom standing in front of us at the ticketmaster, let us get in front of her and we got front row, center. I will never forget that concert!
I saw that show with Dokken as well. Then I saw him the next year on the Sacred Heart tour with the fire breathing dragon. Both of them were excellent concerts. 🤘 🔥 🐉
Dio is the most alive person than anybody else- Metallica, Manowar, Judas, even the older bands- DC, Scorpions, Maiden.. DIO IS THE VOICE !!! The most sincere and honest hard and heavy vocalist!!! Respect!!! DIO FOREVER!!!!
I've listened to many, many, many different heavy metal singers and Ronnie's voice is the only one that perfectly personifies heavy metal. His voice is perfect and so is the music he sang.

We may never, never, never come home
But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
We're the throw before the toss
You can release yourself but the only way is down
We don't come alone
We are fire we are stone
We're the hand that writes and quickly moves away
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
Two eyes from the east
It's the angel or the beast
And the answer lies between the good and bad
We search for the truth
We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase is worth the pain
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
We're off to the witch
We may never, never, never come home
But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
You know we're the throw before the toss
You can release yourself but the only way you go is down
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
See how we shine
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in line
We're a ship without a storm
We're the cold inside the warm
We're a laugh without a tear
We're the far without the near
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
See how we shine
We're the last in line

Thanks for the lyrics. Only one thing; Dio says we're the first in line 6th verse down from "See how we shine."
anybody gonna realise that there whole career is a jojo refrence
This song rocks so hard. It first melted my face off when I was in 7th grade. This and Holy Diver again and again.

He was a good dude.

Overall he put out great music.
Both his solo stuff and his sabbath stuff. I enjoy both.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
So I recently realised I really like Dio. Didn't even realise I knew so many of his songs. So awesome to realise and find a load of stuff you've been missing out on.

Some of Vivian Campbells best guitar work was those first two Dio albums!! 🤘🏻
Always a good guitarist. Just couldn't break out on his own. Dio's main complaint about him was he never wrote/co-wrote anything for the albums.
Some? It was his best hands down.
Viv is one hell of a guitarist!!!
He is truly missed. What a amazing voice and one of a kind.
I'm 52 years old and can't let go of his music!
51 here . I concur.
52 here as well. This music is timeless.
50 & couldn't agree more!
53 Still cranking it!
That's awesome that you got to be a youngster during Dio's prime years!
RIP Ronnie James Dio! King of Heavy metal
Клип - захватывающая драма! Как и полагается Дио! А голос!!!Пройдут тысячелетия, а такого голоса уже никогда не будет! Ни у кого! 👏
You got it exactly right brother!! That voice! God bless you and yours my brother in metal!
Great song from a fantastic album by a rock genius.
Bless him.
I went to that concert to with a gang of my 12 yr old buddies . Oakland Coliseum arena .
)w(
Saw DIO on July 23rd 1986 @ Compton Terrace just south of Phoenix 😯 Will always remember the mechanical fire breathing dragon 🔥 Extremely Awesome
"Dude why'd my DoorDash take so long??"
"You're not gonna believe this"
Definitely on the Mount Rushmore of metal singers. What a voice!!! What a song!!!
We we're blessed to have him back in the 80s. We miss you Dio. Thanks for your awesome, timeless music and your inspiration
This song is more relevant now than ever before.
I will add Rob Halford to that and then I have my perfect combination of metal singers.

The Last In Line"
We're the ship without a storm
The cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness
That it needs, yeah
We're a laugh without tear
The hope without the fear
We are coming, home
We're off to the witch
We may never, never, never, come home
But the magic that we'll feel
Is worth the lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
We're the throw before the toss

But the only way is down
We don't come alone
We are fire, we are stone

We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase

We're the smile without the mirror
We're the last in line

Not ‘we’re the smile without the mirror’. The correct line it’s ‘we’re the far without the near’.

Lost my dad July 30th of this year. He loved music and would always tell me about songs he'd think that I would enjoy. One of those songs being Last In Line. I remember him playing this and saying it was one of his favorites. Love you, Dad. You will always be my favorite song recommender. Rest In Piece.

Easily one of the top heavy metal songs of all time.

A young Marty Friedman in the video, wow, Metal curiosities 🤘🏻🖤🐐
Respect to Dio, but this is edited. the song is cut at exactly 02:00 skipping straight to the solo.
missing this verse:
"Two eyes from the east
it's the angel or the beast,
but the answer lies between the good an bad.
We search for the truth
we can die upon the tooth,
But the thrill of just the chase is worth the pain."
my favorite bit of the song.
RIP holy diver.
where do i find it
Exactly why did they edit this ?
John Robles It probably had to do with air time restrictions. So say MTV would only allow 4 minutes of the song for a music video and so they had to cut it in order for it to make MTV
@@adama4791 still it should be played in its entirety...this is bull shyt....way to fck up a song....🤬
@@UncleDaniel It's been blocked in my country just last month apparently, on the grounds that it contains materials owned by the warner music group. maybe you'll have better luck finding it. I found it on "heavy metal forces" channel. please post if you get anything.
Uma potência de voz!!!! Espetacular!!!
Two bands that put on the greatest shows ever were Dio and Maiden. What sets Dio apart from everyone, then and now, and probably forever, is the breadth of his career. His earliest tunes were bubble gum rock that predated the fucking Beach Boys. Guys like Dio never die.
This song kicks ass, only ronnie could do it like this, awesome brother, RIP RONNIE 🙏
Excellent!!!! Our dear Ronnie will stay forever in our hearts!
Wow. That’s Meeno Peluce on the bike. He was a child star in the early 80’s. I went to the same summer camp he did back then.
DIO was a far ahead of his time, I was lucky enough to see him twice here in Las Vegas, I miss him almost like a brother.
The voice of DIo is very powerful, and its singing style is like a raging flame, leaving a lasting impression on people
Song was way ahead of it's time .
This Song is Timeless😎🤘💞
Definitely.
It wasn’t. It’s cheesy as hell. Children listen to this when getting into better metal music. This is baby’s first rock band.

Kudos to Vivian Campbell for one of the most soulful and epic metal guitar solos-

My favorite song of my favorite musician. No one can replace you,Ronnie!
Ronnie knew about The Borg. Lol. That voice. All the wind Ronnie had as such a small person is amazing. The voice of the Northern Winds.
Nunca tinha ouvido esse hino do Dio, mais uma pra playlist. O vocal do Dio em conjunto com um fodendo solo de guitarra, é a perfeição de música.
He will never be replaced

Every kid dreams of becoming a rock star. But even now in my 50's the only one I'd absolutely choose to come back as or have the same voice as, is RJD. He is so far above everyone else it's ridiculous. The perfect metal voice, which with absolute assurance I can say he will never be eclipsed by anyone else, in my life time at least. RIP Ronnie!

@@christianstruber4371 Did ya miss a question mark after ever? Anyway, we all have the best in our heads. They all have merit but DIO's voice is unmatched. Studies show that he should have lost his voice after his first belt - meaning, he is not normal. Nobody can sing like him and retain it. An example would be Derek Dick (Fish).

This song for me captures all of Ronnie James Dio's vocal talents. So soft to start with but with the booming metal vocals to finish. He was the Ben Webster vocalist of Rock music. Truly magnificent.
