Dainty Diaries, you're right, boys are not offended by tea cups. My Mom once told me she decided to redo her master bedroom decor to something without frills, and decidedly more masculine in tone. To her surprise, my Dad didn't like it. He liked her lacy curtains and pink bedspreads, so she changed it back. One of my favourite things about you is how unapologetically feminine you are. Don't let anybody make you feel bad about it. You're a ray of sunshine and your little house is lovely.

I absolutely love your home and I absolutely love the idea of recycling thifted or free pieces. I like older solid pieces of furniture, not always a fan of modern, quick fix furniture. At the age of 58 I am starting again in life, very scary, but looking forward to it. I will be thrifting and upcycling for the first time and I can’t wait. Had to smile when you mentioned that your niece plays with your tea cups. I had a display cabinet that had my vintage , crystal items in. My son when he was small was never allowed to touch what was in it in case he broke something, now he can't understand why I allow my grand daughter to play with the stuff in it.😁😄. My attitude is now if it breaks it breaks, its only stuff. 🙂😁

It has been so much fun watching you do everything that you’ve done to your home. It is beautiful! I’m not sure when this term evolved or came on the scene, but I think it describes your house best...it is COTTAGECORE. It is a beautiful mixture of comfort, roses, teapots, beautiful china, flowers, lovely comfortable furnishings, and calming colors. I hope that gives you an idea. LOL You can definitely find it on line. But it doesn’t really matter what your style is called; rest assured your home is gorgeous! You have a home that you’ve worked hard to make your own and it’s gorgeous! ❤️
I would say your style is Romantic style... with a touch of magic fairy dust-up! Very original and beautiful! ...BUT, Girl, just a hint...you are charming and beautiful...so..."the boys" are NOT coming by to see your teacups...they are coming to see YOU lol!
When we had carpet, we installed Berber carpet. Also, in our boys' rooms, I actually had them install in "industrial" carpet that had gorgeous colors in it. It is now 24 years old and still looks brand new. We put a very thick pad under it, and it was the best decision we ever made!

Oh YES, I love tea pots and tea cups and collect them. Over the years I've repainted every room in the house as well as the downstairs basement (turned into a den with a gas fireplace which I sanded and stained) ....so cozy!
I think your label for your decor is called grandma chic, thats what I call it. it's not an insult it just means your way ahead of your time because most women don't get to decorate like that until their alone when their older. I try to decorate my house like that with the pinks and light airy colors with doilies and hand made quilts and of course the tea cups with saucers. I just revamped my kitchen in pink a year ago, the hard part was finding the cookware and silverware in pink but I have everything now, coffee pot ,toaster, pots and pans, dishes, I even made my own appliques to put on the cabinets before painting them the palest of pink, but to be honest it looks more white than pink but its ok. My grandmother came to New Zealand when she was 20 from Ireland. I can remember my mother wallpapering her house in that pink flower wallpaper! I think I was 10 😁🌹

Oh god the lilac, this house when we moved in had hideous dark pink and lilac contrasting walls in the hallway and upstairs landing..I immediately went out and bought a nice muted sagey green paint to bring the peace and threw that around the walls 🤣 ok back to watching again

Hi Catherine I just love following your channel you are such an inspiration. I bought my first house on my own in 1978 . All my contents were donated by family. I had one socket in the whole house. My friends thought I was mad. You've done so well to create such a pretty home on a budget. Have you thought of making a sewing machine cover? A pretty floral quilted one would nice to film. 🇨🇦Love your message about spending money on renovations. I bought my 600+square foot home 3 years ago. Most of the work I've done myself, except for plumbing and electrical. The transformation has been rewarding and I'm quite proud of what I've been able to do on a very small budget. I think the best compliment I got was from my dad, who hadn't been to visit in over a year, when he asked me when I had the kitchen redone. He thought I had replaced my kitchen cabinets! Obviously I'm doing something right 😊
Your fireplace is so beautiful. The round shape is just lovely. Most of the modern gas fireplaces are rectangular and look so boring doesn't matter how much granite you stack around it.
If you’re thinking of replacing your stair runner with a jute type carpet I would advise against it. They are impossible to keep clean and will discolour once they get wet. They make a great scratching surface for the cats though. 😊

I love your mantra "you don't have to get indebted to have a beautiful home. We have moved to the states and setting up house through buys at thrift stores and second hand finds. I'm excited to paint some things and make it a little prettier. And my husband and boys don't mind my girly decor. Keep the inspiration coming.

Hi Catherine I just love following your channel you are such an inspiration. I bought my first house on my own in 1978 . All my contents were donated by family. I had one socket in the whole house. My friends thought I was mad. You've done so well to create such a pretty home on a budget. Have you thought of making a sewing machine cover? A pretty floral quilted one would nice to film. Just thought it maybe worth doing as a winter project!!! x

🇨🇦Love your message about spending money on renovations. I bought my 600+square foot home 3 years ago. Most of the work I've done myself, except for plumbing and electrical. The transformation has been rewarding and I'm quite proud of what I've been able to do on a very small budget. I think the best compliment I got was from my dad, who hadn't been to visit in over a year, when he asked me when I had the kitchen redone. He thought I had replaced my kitchen cabinets! Obviously I'm doing something right 😊
Your fireplace is so beautiful. The round shape is just lovely. Most of the modern gas fireplaces are rectangular and look so boring doesn't matter how much granite you stack around it.
If you’re thinking of replacing your stair runner with a jute type carpet I would advise against it. They are impossible to keep clean and will discolour once they get wet. They make a great scratching surface for the cats though. 😊
