05/12/2020 Ridge Brush Fire

Brush fire in ridge, Tuesday May 12, 2020.
Just after 3:30 p.m. authorities were notified of a possible brush fire in the Brookhaven State Park located off the William Floyd Parkway and Whiskey Road.
The Ridge Fire Dept. and SCPD 7th Pct., and SCPD aviation responded.
Ridge F.D. Chief Louis Kaiser was in charge of the scene and Ridge F.D. Chief Wesley Phillips over saw operations from the SCPD Aviation helicopter circling overhead.
The fire consumed an estimated 18 plus acres and required the response of at least ten additional fire department and ambulance companies.
The fire took approx. two hours to be placed until control with an estimated two more hours for mop up of hot spots.
The NY State DEC, NY State Forest Rangers, Suffolk County officials, NY State Park Police, NY State Park Police Emergency Management, NY State Troopers, and Homeland Security responded as well.
The fire is deemed suspicious and is under investigation.

Sweet brush fire. Quiet here in southern New England. Early to mid-seventies it was brush fires galore!

Thanks for covering this since the Mainstream Media seems MIA these days. I had just hiked there a few days prior, glad I wasn't there when this happened. Hope everyone is OK...thanks for fighting the fire. I wish we'd have more prescribed fires in the winter like they do in New Jersey.
