Why are none of the trees burning ?
Sometimes grass fires don't have enough elevation associated with them to set trees alight. It's the same way that they conduct controlled burns in forests to control undergrowth.
When has anyone struck a metal object with a mower and it sparks an incinerates homes?

Where are all the commenters saying that the fires are the fault of the Democrats? They are all over the videos about the wildfires in California. Idiots. As a Californian who has been through this a few years ago, my heart goes out to all who have lost their homes in Texas.
California fires are democrats faults. Horrible government. California 16000 sqft destroyed, Just this year. Nevermind previous years. This issue in TX was started by a spark from someone mowing their lawn in 100 degree weather.

I grew up there. you don't understand the type of foliage we have. it isn't the grass specifically, it's this weird vegetation and weeds that dig deep in the soil for water. it gets overgrown and looks terrible.

It's an empty field near a residential area. Why wouldn't they?
most lawn mowing companies mow on a schedule especially if its a commercial lot or public property. My guess is nobody gave them the call to stop and so they kept doing business as usual. Also Texas is huge with mowing companies literally anyone can start a mowing company.
It is considered a code violation to have "high grass" (un-mowed areas) on property within the city limits.
Of course, this is because of the potential for grass fires starting and burning out of control (something which happens with regularity in Texas - especially by the side of major highways - where cigarette butts get tossed out of a pickup truck window, or a car overheats and burns - even all manner of litter and trash can ignite. It has been over a hundred degrees in TX for almost 30 days and every plant is either dead, drying or dying. A "spark" ? Sure could'a been - but it's the fuel that burns ...

The fire started far away from these houses. How come the firemen did not see this coming and prevent the fire from destroying these houses. The firemen commander is dumb and slow.

*I AIN'T SAYING I'M SPECIAL BY NO MEANS* But I believe if I lived there and had 100' of garden hose my house would not have burnt. 15-20 people with flat leaf rakes can beat out a heck of a sized field grass fire because I've seen it done. Those people were too lazy to try and fight their own fire and depended on the fire department and that's what they got.
