I just dive into the state of playing some stuff and don't think what I'm really playing. One of my acquainted teachers calls it "to chase cockroaches around the fretboard" (I translated it from Russian as I could :D) So that's why I've reached not much for 20 years. And I can appreciate your advice is useful.
I love the bit about the ear training. These videos are not only helping me to create my own toolbox but to also stop and listen to myself. I felt like I was 'scribbling' all over the fretboard but now I'm slowing down and actually realising less can be 'more'. Kind of like singing, it's not about cramming too many words in quick succession and assaulting the ears its about choosing them more carefully and fleshing out the 'colours' of those words. Thanks man for teachings, no more scribbles on the fretboard, I promise , LoL 👍👍
This helped me and still is helping me alot with my Guitar Journey Thank you sooo much Brother in Guitar 🎸 Hopefully we could hang out one day and share our favorite music 🎶 It would be really awesome to play Guitar with you 🎸🎶💙
I love your tip about the timer. I would only add that from my experience, it's actually not helpful to play something over and over again for too long. I find that going to sleep and picking it up again the next day, my practice will be significantly better. I mean this for things like new skill acquisition but also for learning new chords or moving between familiar chords and new shapes for example. It's like the skill gets finalized/baked in overnight. Without the rest and time away, I'm just wasting time and more importantly, feeling bad about why I can't do it well yet.
As a learning specialist and grade school teacher, I concur with everything you said here. I especially resonated with "music a language". In fact, I will be teaching a high school course about that very subject--music as language and language as music. I am still looking for guest speakers, and I know my students would love you--they are cool Seattle kids. Lemme know if you'd be interested and I'll get ya the deets. Yes, I know I am reaching out publicly on RUclips... but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.
Finally another great video from you! I really like your way of Communicating the Framework that works for you. And these steps are also somewhat essential for other things in life (set a goal, be consistent,...). Tranks for sharing
Green helps me alot with finger pain or if I feel I don't want to play but know I have to, I'll take a puff and get my hours in 💚💨 It helps me concentrate too when I'm playing, plus it's really awesome when playing and listening to Jimi Hendrix 🎸 🎶
Hi, Rotem.. I like your 'new' method of doing videos.. It's very engaging..and I'm sure!.. you'll find far more people subscribing, than ever!.. All I've seen are well done..No wasted time, and Great informative information.. Keep it up!.. The detailed explanations...make sense and are much better than generalities!.. I think I've been with you since the beginning as a subscriber...and...as you may remember...own a guitar just like yours.. :) Though not modified.. Wishing you a Great new week!.. Rowland
@@RotemSivanGuitar I did have two of those..exactly alike...'74s in Cherry Red.. but finally sold one to a pro player who lives in L.A. half the time...and England the other half.. Hey!..I could only play one at a time!..LOL. :)
I have no idea how to practice!! Where do start? I love jazz, but does that help, everything seems so impossible, I think I have the feeling, but that's it, so chords, arrpegios, scales, shapes without concept. Thanks so much!!
@@RotemSivanGuitar Doing good! I'm currently taking a music production course. It's been crazy fun trying to make music in a DAW! Working on guitar every day too, mainly on ear training, remembering the fretboard, and triads. I want to be able to see and know the chords as I solo. My solo has improved a lot too, I can now hum and solo what I hear right away. I now get why you do it. You can hear the music and tension much stronger and clearer when you hum as you play. Anyway, how about you man? Are you back in NY? These recent videos are great!
I find you to be very interesting guitarist jazz and I have some questions about your guitar at the head you have some purple string behind the nut and you have the string wrapped around the head look like it's going to the a string and B string and then you got to cross the streams across why is that and why is it that you have just one pickup right below the fretboard and it look like you have a piece of wood over the rest of where the pickup supposed to be and what kind of guitar is it😎😎😎!

I don't have a practice routine, i try to transcribe something cool, analize it and absorb it. Only problem I spend too much time manipulating the thing itself, because it's more fun for me, than the time I should spend transcribing ( fun as well but i found i need to be in the mood)
I practice for 6 hours minimum....various types of Chromatics, Slides, Scale Shapes, Arpeggio shapes and progression...Scale Studies...Hammer on, Pull offs etc...and I arrange these exercise alternatively...
Could you add cuts and better editing to your videos? I have a hard time managing through all of what you say, if it could always be summerized somewhere, I think your channel would really benefit the extra effort. Thanks.
@@RotemSivanGuitar Yes exactly! I don't want to be rude, just that you have knowledge and I'd love to understand it more clearly. Thanks again for the reply !
"Killer guitarist " ? I want to be a good, soulful guitarist, not a "Killer" nonsens ! There is an inflation of guitar advices here in the internet.........
What is your practice routine?
Caged system
Scales as warmup, playing a random standard, using scales on standard's chords, slow dancing in a burning room.
I just dive into the state of playing some stuff and don't think what I'm really playing. One of my acquainted teachers calls it "to chase cockroaches around the fretboard" (I translated it from Russian as I could :D) So that's why I've reached not much for 20 years. Bad most often. But i learned to practice what i'm bad at, not what i'm good at. Made a huge difference.
Watch 10 hours of youtube videos telling me how to practice, then practicing for about 5 minutes before going back for more youtube videos to learn :)

So after 5 minutes of C Major Pasta becomes more interesting than playing? Nice man
Kinda. But then I play triads & think of berries

Great!!
Pasta is very important. Practice? Yeah I guess that is too
@Rotem did anyone tell you you look like Mitchell from Modern Family?
tommy emmanuel says he doesn't practice but works on his songs, which is serious practice for the rest of us!
What is the leather string around the head and nut of your guitar for?
It's to keep the strings silent above the nut so they aren't ringing out when you're playing. Look up groove gear fretwraps. Same idea
Yas!
My approach is: 5 min practice, than 5min jam, 5 minute practice and 5 min jam :D
Dig that!!!
!
What do you use for your lofi effect?
RC-20
