My dad and I did this video back in 2002, when the Acela trains were new, and when regionals had different paint schemes. It features an NJT locomotive going in reverse through Hoboken terminal, and many other interesting things. If anyone's not familiar with the long electric locomotive, its called an E60. E60s were used on the NEC for heavier Amtrak trains, rather than high speed service, that they were supposed to be designed for. Sadly, they scraped all the E60s except for one. I've got vivid memories of E60s running down the Northeast Corridor during their last years of service. This video shows E60 #600 in action at Newark Penn Station. The only piece of E60 action I've got.
Taken in April,2002.
crazy how 4119 is still running today
What's amazing about this video is how much HASN'T changed in 20 years. Okay...some new paint on Amfleet cars and Genesis Locomotives....but Acela looks exactly the same. Newark platforms look almost exactly the same.
Wow! Amtrak Regional E60 w/ a Genesis P40! Sweet neat & rare catch! Certainly dont see those in Newark, NJ anymore! I dont even think Genesis locos are allowed beyond Washington, DC or Philadelphia.
Awesome video! But Man! A P42 and an E60. That's crazy! In a cool way. Cool contrast between Phase III and IV there. Awesome footage! 5*
E60MA #603 is at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. E60CP #958 is preserved. I forget where it's at.
It's soo sad most of the equipment go - now the HHP8s and AEM-7s are going to disappear- that's the railroad industry always changing- damn I miss those E60s!!
0:53 Wow, a (mostly) matching Comet consist (I know, there's a few III's among the IV's, but at least it's less of a patchwork than when you have IIM's and V's thrown in the mix).
Fantastic footage, thanks for sharing!

Holy crap what a P42 doing behind the E60? Also I see you caught Comet IBs quite a few times. It's a shame they're gone. :(
boy how we wish we had those E60s. the alps are so light they get all kinds of wheel slip and are always late. E60s regularly hauled 18 and sometimes 22 car trains. when transit aquired them we should have kept them. transit spent millions on new ALPs and all we got was 5 lousy miles per hour.
3:05 F-40PH-2CAT 4119 is still running occasionally on the Main/Bergen County line with the NJT paint scheme, not the damn Metro-Notrh paint scheme that came on a few years ago, and is on every F-40 today except for 4119 and 4120. I miss that paint scheme..... ;(
RoyalRoyale -- Gaming and More..... Is that the only line that #4119 runs on? And what about #4120? Does it run the same route, too?
railfandude123 - I'm pretty sure. All the other lines either use the F40-PHs, PH-42s, or ALP-45s. They were running a few weeks ago for an equipment move to Hoboken and the Main/Bergen County. I'd only see them running on the Main/Bergen County Line. It's sad.
railfandude123 - 4120 was on the equipment move, too.
Well, at least NJT is still using them... you think they'll be running for a good while from now?
About a month before I was born! Nice
Great video man. Look closely on 4146. You can see the air hose bouncing into the tracks ties.... Transit at its best lol.
Great Video I Love Watching Classic Videos
Phase IV + Acela Regional + Phase III + MHC's... just wow.
I wonder if any of those Comet IBs in this video are now here in California. While Amtrak pulls them, they actually belong to CalTrans.
Actually, two E60s survived with one still in NJ Transit colors a few years back. Hopefully both will be restored.
train numbers for the Vermonter are 54,55,56 and 57.
wow, those were back in the days when the vermonter ran with box cars and a baggage car..... seems like a long time ago
I did not know the alp 44 pulls multilevel cars????
No roof on Penn?
@MrGamester66 Atlantic City Express Service (ACES). Thats why the ALP44 pulls MLVs. Hope this helps. lol
ALSO I NEVER SAW A COMET 2 CAB CAR BBEEFOORREE!!! NNNNNIIIIIICCCEE!!
THUMBS UP!
My thoughts exactly.
no prob
