Kenji is living my dream life. Riding around on a bike, sampling chicken teriyaki, producing what honestly is the most captivating RUclips material I've seen in a long time.
12 episodes ago, i could not tell what is good or bad teriyaki. But now after 12 episodes, when he opened up that box I said "yeaaahhh that looks like good fresh cut chicken. is that freezer burn on those dumplings?"
This was my weekly (nearly daily) lunch spot when I worked at the spa in that same strip mall 15 years ago. Their yakisoba was so good! Great to see it’s still holding up! 👍🏼
So pretty there, so cool to see all the Spring flowers when there’s snow on the ground here. This series is really interesting for those of us who’ve never had teriyaki
As a Seattle native and resident it's lovely to see all the beauty he keeps showing. Also I get to sit here and wait for him to reach some of my favorite spots! I'm glad you get to experience it vicariously at least!
@@RYTF5 in my part of New York, it’s absolutely freezing but the sun is out and we have snow on the ground and apparently more coming..Happy Spring 🤦🏼♀️😂
Your ability to properly analyze cooking and give helpful criticism is so nice. You continue to be my favorite person in cooking, and that’s reinforced in the most surprising and entertaining ways (like reviewing a dish I’ve never had in a state I’ve never been to)!
I don't know how many teriyaki places there are in Seattle but I'm hoping 300+. Can't wait until I'm traveling back to the PNW on a routine basis, this channel will definitely be an amazing guide.
Ahaha, I'm ordering Teriyaki Bowl for my fiancé and I tonight and just happened to check if JKLM had reviewed it yet. Their portioning on katsu is huge for the price. Looking forward to you reviewing Toshio's Teriyaki in Rainier Valley, my absolute fav!
This is what it means to be human, and I'm so glad for you that you live in an area where you can explore and fully flourish. I, personally, am relegated to my local cemetery for this sort of foliage and scenery, but I'll be damned if that doesn't make it all more impactful ;)
There's a Janelle Monae song with the words "your chicken tastes like pork" at the end of it and now every time I hear it I can't help thinking of this series...
Kenji, I think we're gonna need this recipe before you hit up every single place in Seattle! Out here in Indy, we only really have one place with teriyaki chicken like this and it's in a mall food court.
For Kenji's tummy and heart health, I hope he's taking most of these teriyaki orders home to cook second dishes for the family with. I mean it's EVERY DAY lol
I worked for a short time at Shreve, Crump, and Low in Boston. We were not to guide a customer to a “cheaper” selection. We were to look at something “less costly.”
Hey Kenji, I’m sure this has been said, but I’d love to see how you approach making chicken teriyaki at home and what you do to meet some of the expectations you express in this series.
I'm pretty sure those gyoza are shirakiku ones because I just finished a bag of them. They have the same issue with thin, tough skins that isn't great dry fried. I think one of the past reviews with leathery gyoza was also the same brand.
One of my favorite teriyaki places was Teriyaki Seven at the intersection of Madison & MLK Jr. Way, but the building was going to be redeveloped and all 3 businesses there were kicked out. I was hoping they might re-open somewhere else near, but haven’t heard anything.
@@eatlikealocal Yeah, just trying to figure out the seeming two-camera setup. He didn't have his "head Go-Pro" on. I guess it was just the magic of editing.
Hard to believe before Covid you could get Teriyaki Chicken combo for around $8. Even looking at Teriyaki Bowl pictures online their prices were significantly cheaper just a couple years ago. Overall they are not my favorite place.
I left Sea-town many years ago for the midwest. I miss the water, the mountains, and the food. The people, with exceptions, are quite shit. Beautiful vistas and quaint neighborhoods, but very unfriendly. People in NYC are nicer.
I’m curious as to why you get the gyoza combo when they all are just factory made and frozen. Not saying there’s anything wrong with eating that, they can still be good, but I’m wondering if you’re waiting to see one place that has homemade gyoza
Less expensive sounds like you are starting above average and moving towards average. More inexpensive sounds like you are below average and moving further away.
Some editors may tell you to use "less expensive," but it really depends on what you're trying to convey and why. "Inexpensive" is seen as a positive trait, so "more inexpensive" puts the reader into a positive mindset while "less expensive" puts them in a more neutral to negative mindset. If you want someone to come away from an evaluation with a positive impression, then "more inexpensive" is what you should use.
Never in my 36 years of living in the greater Seattle area have I ordered teriyaki and had the salad come in the same box as the chicken, let alone pre-dressed.
It's not uncommon to throw in a tip to support small restaurants up here regardless of whether your doing take out or dine in. Obviously you don't have to but I don't mind throwing an extra buck or two if it's a place I frequent.

Definitely the most captivating, can’t remember when I checked YT for an upload everyday
Do it tomorrow.. I live where he does but anyone might see your experiences with relish
@@kraptastic333 What a motivational comment. I might do just that, thanks!
The urbanist in me loves that this has now turned into a teriyaki bike tour.
I'm going to be sad to see the bike go when he gets into sodo and south Seattle.
Ooohhh, what if he turned this into a column for The Urbanist or Seattle Bike Blog!
at this point I could watch kenji do anything. He could compare water and I would watch it attentively
Can't wait for him to start talking about vertis and horis.
It seems that you've finally found your preferred video style/format for this series, and I gotta say that I love it!
Yeah this is working for me. A little bit more work but it looks better I think.

Fast forward to 12 episodes later, and you could already tell the difference between Chinese-style and Japanese-style rice while blindfolded.

Happens a lot in Ohio too. I have live flowers in my yard and snow on the ground lol. My chives are coming up through the snow.

Loving this series Kenji. As someone who lives in Europe I'm hoping to see your teriyaki recipe as a last episode. 😄
Episode #150, the final stop: Kenji's new teriyaki restaurant
I appreciate the scenic dining shots. Funny how before you were just eating off the hood of your car in a parking lot.
I love Kenjis insight and analysis, very fair and forgiving
My favourite foodie series on YT right now, always a joy to find a new episode each day! Love it
thank you kenji for your continued journalistic integrity

Those trees are super beautiful.
This teriyaki joint actually looks really good compared to the other ones. I might actually visit this one one day.
Never thought I'd hear you talking about salad cream. It's one of those things you expect no one to know about outside of the UK.
I have spent a lot of time there and lived there for a few months a while back.

Kenji's teriyaki reviews make me wish I lived in Seattle.
Is my guy eating teriyaki every day of the week? what a dream
Completely agree on glass bottled Snapple. Mango madness was my jam. Then they went plastic and it just didn't taste the same.

Remember in the first video he said he "may do one a week?"
What you see me eat on camera is basically all I eat of them. I sometimes finish the salad. I take the rest home and repurpose.

Last night he posted a video of fried rice with leftover teriyaki chicken stir fry on Instagram!
Still anxiously awaiting Kenji’s Seattle Teriyaki Chicken recipe! :)

What is the optimal marinade time?
You may joke about nice Shell stations. But there's a surprising number of Shell stations in Seattle with halfway decent hot cases.

If Kenji gets the chance, Oak Tree Teriyaki. Been one of my favorites since childhood

Does Kenji have a vidoe where he makes his own Terriaki?

one of the less expensive options
Anyone else been eating more teriyaki since kenji started this series?
Not montlake, That's more arboretum east madison neighborhood, but most people get it.
Yeah the gyoza from teriyaki joints kinda suck. Better off going with the teriyaki chicken/katsu combos.
How is this man eating all this food in the terriyaki combo every other day and keeping so trim?

Yes exactly this. Saying “less expensive” implies it’s typically an expensive meal. It’s always inexpensive. Some are more inexpensive than others.
