I wish success in this game wasn't so dependent on how much you spend. I am a light spender(50-100/month, lvl 34 ops). I've always tried to focus on whats going to be best for long term value. This guide was awesome! I always appreciate the insight of a veteran player!
I really hated Forbidden Tech because of the failure rate and how long it took to get materials so I ignored them for a long time. Then during an incursion I got schooled by a level 52's Heghta with a high level PvP forbidden tech. When the reinforcement Croziers and Sanctus end up hiding in their bases while it was hovering outside, I knew I missed something. Took a look at forbidden tech again, saw the numbers at high tiers, and realized they are the best long term investment in the game because they can move from ship to ship. The forbidden tech that made the Heghta a nightmare could easily be moved to the Vorcha and every other ship down the line, possibly a better investment than officers. The additional refineries also add tremendous value to something that has a lot of long term value. I don't mind the idea maxing the S31 Torpedo Pods because it increases my daily tier up catalyst and buffs my Tribune by a lot, which then can be later moved to a Crozier. Even though I don't have a particular need for it, the new gorn forbidden tech is tempting because it has a daily isolytic artifact token refinery.
i was going for f2p then decided i love the game enough to be a light spender. aka no more than about $200/month. Doe snot hinder the fun and also does not seem to interfere with lengthy upgrading/grinding for me. others have their opinion on that. Great video rev, I have been fully ftp since January 23 and before that maybe £200 total spend on my account, never bought a prime, got the 2nd researcher and builder and the occasional £18 battle pass. I am ops 49 now and just chilling as I slow grind the everything before I start going into the 50s.
That was the point of them at the start of the game you buy to make it easier but eventually you could get it F2P now the business model is how many thousands of dollars do you need to get what is unavailable any other way.
Nice video, thanks! Good to put things in perspective and know that there are others wondering how to make a dollar go further in this game. I'm an "ultra-low" spender, about $10 a month. Ops 35. Have bought 2nd build queue and 2nd and 3rd research queues: very happy with those. Bought a Battle Pass once: meh, okay, but maybe not again. Next purchase: maybe 3rd builder ($20). Based on this video, extra dock ($50) may be a good choice. And for future, save for those Forbidden Techs ($50).
The best value I find... packs or grinds that unlock a daily chest for the various faction loops. Bajor and Ex-borg for instance. For the price of a few packs, you can now pull a pack+ worth of items DAILY! Great long term for parts and g4+ parts
I wish bought the extra builder when it was $5. Unfornately, I bought some dumb $5 pack and the $19.99 North Star 4 years ago now everything is $100 each. Went on a 4 year hiatus, but slowly realizing why I quit.
A player's value is judged by whatever you want it to be. Judging your own worth by how much fun you're having seems healthy. Judging another player's worth by how much fun they cause you to have probably makes sense
@@FunIsGoingOn I'm sure that when this happens the default events will still be there. Mining, Monday Rogue Thursday, Cosmic Cleanup on Saturday Swarm Sunday. Also it looks like they are trying to add stuff that is a consistent once a week on a certain day so the chance of having something for every day will be there. At that point you will have those who prefer the resource collection, management and PvE factors of the game and the group who decide that their purpose in the game is to annoy the first group with PvP because they don't know what else to do. Now if all the PvP griefers manage to drive off the first group the game dies because PvP without targets becomes an idle clicker with no progress. If the griefers get bored and leave before the resource management group then you have a chance of the game lasting if those people spend enough to make server Maintenance profitable even if it is condensed into a half dozen servers in the end.
Thanks Rev, I’m a light spender typically just the £20 battle pass these day. I stopped spending when I realised that for some reason some servers are being ripped off, getting significantly less bang for there buck 😤 One thing I’ll add with primes sometimes although the prime itself is a bit meh the mats that come with, can represent best value. This varies by ops level and also server as this impacts what you get from each pack. For example I have the Prime Romulan Tribute (lvl 1) I would never say this is worth £100 however at the time the materials it gave me and the points they were worth in the officer auction made it the best buy beating the monthly pack and other special offer packs. So as geeky as this sounds I have an excel spreadsheet that I use to calculate auction points for a pack to ensure I’m getting the best value for me and sometimes that is some of the meh primes. I’d personally recommend any low spender do this I just wish Scopely would stop fiddling with the points.
im ops26 and the basic packs of research ques and build and repair and docks and with ship sourcing for cosmic clean up takes 3 months for one ship is insane one set of bps a week is crazy i also think CC needs a revamp
i really feel like things that increase iso damage for all ships are worth considering, that scales decently well lategame in my opinion. If your a light spender i feel like anything in the refit section espically things that boost all ships should be a priority as sometimes they are only aviable for a limited time in my experiance or maybe you gotta be way higher in the game then i am to source them for free.
You say the monthly pack is a great value, but I think the end of month "Bonus Elite Pack" is better value - because you can claim it 3 times a day cutting the time to get all the mats and resources to 1/10th the plan.
Login to the website store rather than the game - you can then purchase using the dollar rate $99 which is £79 - still painful but more slap across the face rather than a kick in the nuts
Scopely took the $5 second builder offer away from me. I have 2 Third Builder Unlocks available, one for 19.99 and the other for 99.99🤷I've only ever bought $20 battle passes, $20 2nd research, $10 flash passes and the $5 recruit pack (for Leslie & ship XP abilities.) It just seems 🍆ish to x4 the price just because I didn't buy it right away. For the extra docks, I only have the Premium Drydock Unlock Elite pack for $99.99 which is too far above my price point. It feels like they're telling me, "Open up your wallet or quit already!" and, well, I don't buy all the battle & flash passes like I used to. They thought they'd trick me into spending more and so now they're getting less. No soup for you, Scopely!
As a international player my biggest problem is that Scopely didn't localize the game. So if I'm going spend money for a low cost thing (for the USA base players) here in Brazil is a super really expensive purchase for a mobile game, is almost the money i would use to buy of a triple A on the console.
My list of what ships are good for what at my level (46). Some of these have been taken direct from the comments here. Anything you want to add or comment on is welcomed. Ships vs use at lvl 46, ramped up fast when I had money, now very constrained. Amalgam, armed mining with large cargo and decent range Botany, Bay, Data mining Cerritos, support Cube, defense plus cutting Defiant support, good for those Solo armada that you need to do to get the Bajoran pulls. Defiant 2, Defiant buffs are amazing when used in Eclipse as it helps the entire Armada Defiant 3, jem hadar armadas Discovery, long range explore and support by hauling ships to locs that they could not reach Enterprise NX01, xindi aquatics Feesha, Lat., gold Franklin-A, swarm Iss Jellyfish, ? Limited range, good for 2 quests. Jellyfish, normal ? Mantis, attack and cripple? My Talios does the work. Love the Syndicate XP, actian hostiles Monaveen/Pickle, Texas class ships, generally good in battle, decent ranges systems Realta, small ship action and quests Sarcophagus, defense, really good if enemy fires at coffin while station fires at enemy. Stella, Eclipse exchange Vi'dar Talos, borg also general warship Titan A, (support?), freebooter grind and I invested heavy in the Bajoran loop and the Titans max fortified Titan A2, ability makes punching up easy and I can claim max chests every time Voyager, long explores, medium force, Hirogen elite
I think it would help people to spell out what the FT refineries unlock as grind paths. You mention rare and epic FT particles but what can those buy? Well to answer my own question, they can buy the rare faction mining FTs (3 of them), the Borg alcove, Borg nano plating, and the 3 faction specific pvp damage epics. On top of the FT mats and bells. So quite a lot
In addition, there is a number of purchases or total dollar value that will permanently increase your treasury value to the highest base pack. That might also be worth considering since you can f2p grind those treasury packs too. If getting the best ones offered is only 100 away, maybe that’s another incentive to buy one pack. Another one of those permanent things rev was talking about

i am a spender really on battle passes and 23euro packs tho wish there were pike and monroe shard packs but alot of officer packs are 60 to 100 euro well out of my price range would take me 12 weeks to afford a 60 euro pack double that for the 100 euro packs even the 23 euro ones take me 2 weeks possibly 3 weeks hope in the future they create packs like that PM pack for 23/60/100 even a pack with chen and cath for all 3 category's of prices those 100 euro ones should have a full unlock of a epic need more smaller packs that light spenders can afford and rotation especially officer ones if like voyager or ferengi crew for example

Sadly, STFC getting "totally" P2W... After 5 years of playing this game... STFC really not a good investment, mostly due to the actual VALUE of packs in the game mechanics and evolution... Really sad to say that this game certainly isn't worth it.
I'm at the point where I'm not going to spend anymore. I was a light spender. But I got cheated out of a dock. I bought a dock for 50 bucks. Then when I got to ops 40+ I was not given the free dock because it showed me having one already. Total scam.

how many docks do you have now and what level are you? The bought dock shouldn't affect your f2p docks at all. (you get #5 at level 39 and #6 at level 49. #7 an #8 are purchased)

It seems to me that once I was able to acquire the fifth dock for free it saw that I had one and did not allow the fifth one free. I opened a ticket once I realized I should have six in total and not 5. It's been a while since I bought it. So I have to look through countless purchases even though I gave them invoice numbers for every purchase that it could be from March of last year to current. Pay pal receipts since none of them actually contain what product I bought. Just an invoice and an amount payed. So it's a guessing game.

Efficiency primes are a must at higher ops levels
Many of the original primes are grindable but the borg refinery prime for faction credits is a must have for long term faction credit sourcing

early on the north star is great purchase unless you can wait for a BPES and ships there are not that many
