This is Empire 2 but for Medieval II - LUCIUM TOTAL WAR 3.5 REVIEW

  • You know that feeling when you discover a new Total War mod and it completely blows you away? Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I found Lucium Total War, a mod that takes place in the age of the end of Pike and Shot and modernizing armies - and it continues to blow me away with every update. And as lucky as I am, I got to test out the massive new and improved update, namely Lucium Total War 3.5, a mod that essentially functions as an Empire Total War 2, which will be released to the public early next year!
    Lucium takes Medieval 2 into the 1700s and the age of empires, but don't think that just because you own a lot of land, that you're safe. Succession crises, internal conflict and external wars, including events and decisions make Lucium one of the best Medieval 2 mods I've ever played, and that's something I didn't expect to say about a mod for a 17 year old game in 2023.
    But is Lucium better than Empire: Total War? And if so, in what ways? Let's find out, and make sure to let me know in the comments what you think of Lucium, and if you've ever tried it before! :D

    I loved Lucium when I first tried it last year but the campaign constantly crashed, it also lacks a much needed guide to explain the new building mechanics, if the campaign can be made stable, I said myself the first time I played that I felt it was better than Empire, though lack of naval battles does somewhat hinder it as Empire and Napoleon both had very enjoyable naval battles and it was a very important component of warfare in this time period.

    Well as the new version is coming out next year that gives me time to make room in my upload schedule. Played the last 2 versions and never had any crashes in the South American campaign but the European campaign was prone to crashes, luckily figured out an easy fix for that.

    Andy, I found a similar mod that many people don’t know about for Rome tw. It’s called Empires Total war and takes place around 7 years war/ Napoleon. There are three campaigns: 7 years war, French Revolutionary wars, and Napoleon (about 1805/6). The world map goes from North and some of South America to Europe, West Africa, and India. It is a seriously underrated mod but the only downside is that the city names are in Russian. So I hope you can give the mod a chance!

      It's really not to be perfectly honest. Sorely lacking in polish and I can't see enough concrete creative vision. I've had a bit of a relationship with the mod back in the day and leading up to the first couple of its releases and truthfully, it felt better than it actually was back then.

    I prefer older eras of warfare myself, so stuff like Empire and Napoleon aren't my cup of tea.
    Shit, in Shogun 2, my favorite campaign is Rise of the Samurai (with mods, of course). I'm currently playing Attila lately, and that game is probably tied with Shogun 2 as my favorite. The dark, grim vibe of Attila is just so damn good. It's also probably one of the hardest TW games I've played.

      What are the mods you're using for ROTS? I never gave this campaign a shot but maybe I should

    • @Chris_MarMar
      @Chris_MarMar 8 месяцев назад +1

      @tibododo It's a harder campaign imo. One thing that makes it harder is that instead of each province having a religion, they have a political affiliation with one of the 3 major clans in that campaign. If you are the Fujiwara and you capture a Minamoto settlement for example, there will definitely be unrest, and if not properly handled, rebellion. It's not uncommon to see rebellions everywhere lol. Battles are also more brutal for some reason. Troops die in droves a lot faster. I'm at work so I can't really look up the mods I use right now, but when I got time, I'll shoot you my specific list for Rise of the samurai.
      There's not as much unit variety I'll warn you because it's from an earlier time in Japan, but I think it's pretty fun. I tend to favor the Hiraizumi Fujiwara and Fukuhara Taira for the clans I play.
