After you take the tape off at 13:25. Instead of blasting it and potentially getting paint on Your lens.. Get a sponge, any cheapo sponge or a used one that's dry. Spray on a non absorbent surface, like a cut in half plastic water bottle and sponge the paint on. Sometimes I use my hand with nitrile glove. Voila no overspray on the lens
If you tape the inside of the ring with the sticky side out and pack with cotton balls, and then tape from the outside you shouldn’t have any issues with paint anywhere near the glass.
I recommend using grease and a 0 size brush to protect pins, action guides, trigger components, iron sight. Let paint fulling cure before removing. Tape to cover bulk and grease for detail.
Great video, and very encouraging. I have been wanting to change my rifles color scheme from all basic black, to some sort of camo pattern. I was worried about/looking into special paint for gun metal, and not looking forward to taking my rifle apart to paint all the pieces, so this video is a bit of a relief. Thank you.
Depending on your application(duty use) they make spray paint for high temps, I'm a co-owner of an industrial print etc shop, even wraps or coating will wear down, I think rattle can Is just fine imo, unless you're going for trophy piece with a theme
I use krylon camo spray paint, been usin it for years. Make sure its flat paint though not glossy. In my area browns and greens work best basically all year round, just be mindful of how much of each you use. Pay attention to how your environment looks. I use tan, brown, od green and sage green, every once in awhile I'll even use grey. I throw a sniper veil over the gun to get some unique patterns. Works very well, very easy and looks good.
I always wondered how people in the military get that cool looking paint job on their guns, now I know. Thank you great video! Thinking of spray painting my BB gun just like this. Your gun came out great.
All wild animals , coyotes, deer , squirrels , mice , etc. Have a dark streak across their backs and that darkness gradually blends down to a light color ... paint top of weapon dark and bottom lighter color !
i know this is an older video but, pure curiosity: next paint job yall do, can you do before and after photos in the scenery. how much it sticks out stock, vs how much it sticks out painted?
My AR has been rattle canned 3 times since 2015. Northern Virginia, Southern Louisiana, and now West Central Florida. If I'd had it cerakoted, it would not blend in to the next place. (I do use local vegetation as a stencil-ish tool when painting for each environment. No hard edges though. I always blend those.) Rattle can for the win.
Painted a cheap remington 870 clone i I have in a multicam kinda coloration with a piece of mesh sack giving it a cool hexagon pattern. Great video as always
Cerakote is 300-500 dollars. 4 cans of spray paint is about 40 max. It comes down to do you enjoy DIY, not worried about the most pristine and perfect finish, and of course cost. I’ve spray painted my AR308, AR15, and my Remington 700 and have been way more than pleased with every outcome
Mixed camo helps break u up and blend in and fool the deers eyes, I never wear all matching camo head to toe , I mix up my camo and it works trust me ... research it if u like ! I'm not fond of matching camo when deer hunting ...
Honest question: why does nobody put a white primer coat on their black rifles before going at it with the browns and greens? I've watched half a dozen vids and it always looks like the colors are getting absorbed by the black finish underneath. Does it just not matter to people because it's supposed to be cheap and utilitarian by nature?
USMC 1/9 the Walking Dead Porter recommends- DO NOT ALLOW your best friend to paint his rifle on the Whiskeys new Ethan Allen dining room table. OUCH Ski9
Looking down needs to be darker, duh, that is natural eye scrambling. Think fish . . . think fish in the ocean where looking up they are very light and looking down dark.
@@shultz550 It's a Desert Tech Covert. I think it's the A1. The newer A2 is a $4500+ rifle. If you have $6000+ in your rifle, get a professional paint job for f@!k sake!
I can't do this to even my cheap first at 15 the sport 2 smith and Wesson one costs to much to me to mess up especially my 2500 dollar carbines and my 6k dollar sniper rifle I built hell naw but looks cool
Question I am in Southern Arizona, can you paint your rifle to be use in the desert and mountains because where I live I am in the desert but stone throw from the mountains up to 10,000ft or should I just pick one environment
Any earth color will work elsewhere it's always better than nothing. Even if your in dark or read earth the shrubs will always ways those lighter earth tones. Even green jungle have earth tones.
@politicallyinsensitive he untapes them and paints both lens at 13:20. Maybe you should watch the whole video. Guy is whack on crack. Huffed too much paint in the service.
He says he's gonna take this tape and cover the lens a little bit the video don't show it but I'd assume he would cover the glass if he was actually gonna use the rifle hopefully anyone with sense would cover the glass exceptionally well. But I thought the same thing and rewatched the ending
Best advice I’ve ever heard on camo painting your rifle: “Do it like you don’t give a fuck”
Totally right but man. Doing that with an SRS A1 would be hard lol
Yea forget the tape, clean the glass with carb klean for brake clean, paint it all.

Thanks for the tip. Worked great!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRAVE SERVICE TO OUR AWESOME COUNTRY!!🇺🇸👍
First comment is Thank you Sir for your Service.
Second Thsnk you for you sacrifices .
Great video.
You did real good there. Way better than what I’ve seen so far, professional results. 👍🏻
This video series with Tosh is awesome! Thanks Tosh!!!🇺🇸
Thank you Mr. Carrington and Tactical Hyve.
I was looking to camo one or more of my weapons but unfortunately I lost all of my weapon systems in a tragic boating accident...
Tragic, that happens to so many gun owners.😢
Go magnet fishing u can find them
Devastating.
😂😂😂😂😂
I have been using rattle can camp for years and it great for adjusting to environment on the fly too. (Woodland to arid to swamp all in a week)
I always wondered how people in the military get that cool looking paint job on their guns, now I know. Thank you great video! Thinking of spray painting my BB gun just like this. Your gun came out great.
Good plan for a simple process, finish looks great. Degreasing external surfaces helps adhesion.
Brake cleaner
Reno May needed this about a week or two ago.
Lol
Reno May needs a few things. Lol 😂
This is the 3rd video I’ve watched with this guy and this is the first time I noticed his left arm
Me too I was just thinking the same thing.
All wild animals , coyotes, deer , squirrels , mice , etc. Have a dark streak across their backs and that darkness gradually blends down to a light color ... paint top of weapon dark and bottom lighter color !
That is absolutely perfect, that is the best way. Looks perfectly blended together without all the bull shit, just do it
“Looks like dirt.” Exactly! Thanks guys!
Awesome!
Would something like this work for a more woodland type area? Substituting the tan for a more green color
Yes it will work some people repaint depending on the location.
i know this is an older video but, pure curiosity: next paint job yall do, can you do before and after photos in the scenery. how much it sticks out stock, vs how much it sticks out painted?
I'm guessing the paint would wear of faster on plastic handgaurds and stocks? Just wondering kinda wanna try this👊
good job SIR

One more reason other reason to paint your gun is that in the hot desert sun a black weapon will get pretty damn hot. At least from my experience.
I want to story behind the hand. This man has seen some stuff god bless him.
If you do not want your paint to come off in 20 minutes simply paint it with a coat or 2 of matte clear , after getting the camo the way you want it
Etching primer
I could absolutely listen to you and your instructions all day long.
I just bought my first AR15 and it’s all black. Should I pay for it to get Cerakote’d or is spray paint better?
or

myles is just along for the ride man
Thanks ! Beautiful !
If my clothing gear is all digital woodland, would you advise painting my rifle the same?
Mixed camo helps break u up and blend in and fool the deers eyes, I never wear all matching camo head to toe , I mix up my camo and it works trust me ... research it if u like ! I'm not fond of matching camo when deer hunting ...
KISS rule! love it
It’s like a camo Zippo lighter…….if the enemy’s so close you need to camouflage your lighter, you have bigger issues than using your lighter 😬😯👍❗️

I've watched half a dozen vids and it always looks like the colors are getting absorbed by the black finish underneath. What most of us do is put a nice layer of matte desert then a nice layer of matte clear for the base primer
Dose anyone know the caliber of this rifle ?
What happens if I get paint on my gas tube and Gun Barrel
Outstanding
USMC 1/9 the Walking Dead Porter recommends- DO NOT ALLOW your best friend to paint his rifle on the Whiskeys new Ethan Allen dining room table.
OUCH Ski9
What's the longest range caliber that's reliable and can be attached to an AR lower?
You attach a .50 if you need.
Love the outcome. But….. Watching the overspray blow back into that lens hurt my soul.
Looking down needs to be darker, duh, that is natural eye scrambling. Think fish . . . think fish in the ocean where looking up they are very light and looking down dark.
Leg strap riding HIGH
If it rides too high it becomes a nut strap!
What rifl is this ?
Asking why such high scope rings
What rifle is that?
Can anyone tell me what rifle that is love the bullpup bolt action. I really wanna paint my rifles but it's hard to pull the trigger on 1500+ rifles
I think its a desert tech chassis but not 100% if anyone can clarify I'd appreciate it.. thx
@@shultz550 It's a Desert Tech Covert. I think it's the A1. The newer A2 is a $4500+ rifle. If you have $6000+ in your rifle, get a professional paint job for f@!k sake!

I hear you, but I guarantee you didn’t pay 2500 or 6000 for black anodizing and/or black dyed polymer
Nice work. Nothing fancy. Just break up the lines.
Question I am in Southern Arizona, can you paint your rifle to be use in the desert and mountains because where I live I am in the desert but stone throw from the mountains up to 10,000ft or should I just pick one environment
Multicam colors will work, just don’t add too much dark green/brown
Paint the colors and pattern to match the environment where you live.
Any earth color will work elsewhere it's always better than nothing.
Even if your in dark or read earth the shrubs will always ways those lighter earth tones.
Even green jungle have earth tones.
I painted mine too so now they can't get my black gun cause I don't have one
I know he knows what he’s doing i mean he was a navy seal but... spraying the gun with no tape in the glass 😱 lolol just erks me 😂
Paint thinner
As he said, it's not pretty per se, but it does fade in already with the desert topsoil. And that's all you should care about.
Da Vinci doesn’t have anything on you guys. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If I didnt like black rifles/pistols so much it would be great to do this to some of my stuff
only gripe is painting rubber.
yups rubber and oil or adhesive or chemicle substance does not play along very well!
I been using spray paint for years
Dang trigger and brake. Entire mag too. What about the inside of the barrel? Bolt face? Firing pin?😂
Grips by HiPoint.
Tosh needs to go around gun shows and charge $100 for him to paint your rifle. I'd take mine just for that!
I feel like it’s just tan with extra steps
🎨👨🏽🎨
Turrets. Not “Torants”. Cmon Miles.
Just my experience, you don't paint the entire mag, and also insert a mag while rattle canning
Edit: I see its a bull pup with a cover or short mag in
wow straight butchered that beautiful fde rifle
Seems like hes done this 100 times or 200
No way I'm spraying any paint near my glass uncovered. Guys whack
@politicallyinsensitive lol watch the end
@politicallyinsensitive he untapes them and paints both lens at 13:20. Maybe you should watch the whole video. Guy is whack on crack. Huffed too much paint in the service.
@politicallyinsensitive bro you like holding little kids hands? You're sick

Coch did it better!
