This is like the dream romhack I've been waiting for since I was like 10. Damn near 20 years of being obsessed with Ocarina's Alpha and Beta and it's just all coming together. I knew someone would do it at some point when the leak happened, I just can't believe it's here.
@@GlennJimenez People made a lot of claims over the years LOL. I remember around the time Master Quest came out for the GameCube, I was fooled into believing that you could get to the Unicorn Fountain by going under Zora's Domain, for a solid year at least 😭🤣.
There's just something super surreal about how Zelda 64 Alpha looks, it's a mix of the familiar but it's not the same either. It's very captivating to see those visuals. Even regular romhacks feel weird to see because I'm so familiar with Ocarina of Time since childhood
This era of N64 fangames, mods and flashcards is the best for a N64 fan like me. I always thought that the N64 was awesome but it needed more titles and we are getting this!
the decomp has been the greatest thing for OoT romhack and modding for people to be able to go as far as recreating what we only could see and make it playable. granted it helps having a lot of the original assets from that time as well, but filling in everything else that we dont have and making more based on that particular style is really cool.
What excites me the most is that thanks to the numerous recent N64 decompilations, we now have the know-how on developing a lightweight game whose gameplay can look exactly like the early pre-rendered Spaceworld promo footage, the dynamic camera, fighting while riding Epona etc.
This is less a proto version of Ocarina of Time and more like a 3D interpretation of Link to the Past, which I'm really liking the way it looks and hope they add the Pegasus boots in.
Literally my dream game. I've been fascinated with the alpha and beta content of Ocarina of Time and the original concept of Ura Zelda since I was a kid looking these things up on fan sites all those years ago. There's just some itch in my brain that needs to play these games that could've been.
This is exactly what I was hoping for when all the beta stuff started leaking, like there's a lot of beta recreations and restorations of both Ocarina of Time and Mario 64, they're interesting but not something I really care to play that much, but this looks like it's making a new experience out of these beta elements while also creating new things that capture the vibe of the beta, and that's what I was really hoping for, more than anything, i'm just happy to get new Zelda content for my N64 that actually runs on N64. Feels like the OOT modding is only just starting to take off.
This is something I've wanted for so long- and then some. As a kid 10+ years ago, the Zelda 64 Beta and Alpha always intrigued me- great Alpha most of all. Part of me wishes the Link model used was the first one (more reminiscent of the classic design), but even so- this is beautiful, and that artwork!
I was sad to not see this at F3 2024 (especially since it was otherwise a pretty shabby show this year IMO), but then I was incredibly relieved to see the second trailer drop a few days ago. Not to mention hyped. This is genuinely the most hyped I've been for a Zelda game in years.
What a lot of these mods are missing are the ff7 or resident evil style fixed background/matte painting screens, (like castle town etc) which really add a lot of visual appeal, it’s nice to see the makers have remembered to include some of these
This is the end result so many people have attempted, and these guys are going so far above and beyond, it is incredible, and I have the uttermost respect for all who are involved. 💚
wow it looks amazing. the way i would describe OoT is Cinematic. its the story experience as a whole that makes it an adventure. while here, this Zelda64 alpha romhack is more arcadey. in the vain of the original Zelda games. going through crazy thematic areas & monsters. i suppose it could be seen as 'too simple', but honestly it seems even better for replayability... and randomizers of course 😉
When I saw 2023's trailer, I thought it was a bit overboard. After seeing Nintendo's behavior in 2024 (especially in the latter half), however, I completely think they made the right call.
I've always been fascinated with Zelda OoT/64's Alpha and Beta phases of development. I'm so excited for the mod of OoT to come out, as this seems like it really will feel like the Alpha or Beta come to life. I hope it comes out soon.
Do you have any more insight you can share on the development? Why they all chose to be anonymous? How much of it is recreated from early trailers vs how much came from the overdump, gigaleak or possibly a new, unknown leaked build? From the trailer a lot of stuff looks spot on to what we saw in early trailers, but then again, a lot of things in the 96-early 97 trailers where shown sparingly, so I’m curious how much of it is the devs own interpretation.
For most of my life ive wanted to play the zelds 64 we saw in trailers. Now it looks like i can and will some day soon. This is a dream come true for me. N64 was so magical when i was a kid, having nintendo power and eventually internet being able to see all these things that get scrapped really added to the magic.
Love to see it after so many years and different projects it's so amazing to see these devs go above and beyond, truly can't wait to play this when it comes out!
Absolutely - I remember watching all of your beta questing and I was fascinated by all of it. Seeing what could of been in a game is so interesting, I have a DD but no blue disks just the retail releases, which are fantastic in themselves.
Imagine being one of the original Zelda 64 devs and playing this. Seeing it all come to fruition, albeit through someone else 30 years later, must be something surreal.
Yoo @Hard4Games I love beta mods. I’m pretty sure this was the trailer we all saw last year in that mod/hack presentation. This is turning out incredible and I can’t wait to dive into that universe!
Let me know in the comments if you want to see this once it's final. Man I have personally been waiting for something like this since looking at screenshots and texts from 2010 on gekinzuku forums. This is it. Thank you to whoever is behind this project. Thank you so much.
The game we all dreamed about but never got (though we got the greatest game we ever played at the time instead). So happy this will run on console. Also looks like the best way to experience it will be using composite cables, or even the RF adapter lol
I’m optimistic for this one because every other project like it was public and broke down due to personal dramas! This one has only updated when it needed to. Probably the most exciting project, one I never thought I’d see. Great work by the team!
I saw this second trailer, and I was overwhelmed how it looked. In Spaceword 97, I noticed there's something missing in Link's model. His tunic lower skirt is missing. As you can see in the beta, you'll notice Link's model, even his hat. They model a bit differently. it is just basically the same design from the original. I commented down to the developer if I could reach him, but didn't reply
I said this on the original trailer, but God damn, this is my dream hack. I've always liked Zelda 64, and the space world demo was a nice fix, but I always wondered what would the game would look like with the phase 1 artstyle gameplay and using the framework of the story they had at the time to make a full game.
Thank you for talking about what I just send you, Tony. Sorry I didn't send you the link to the second trailer, but I, too, am excited for this. Oh, and just to let you know, I'm not part of the anonymous development group for this ROM hack.
Who are the Nintendo Ninjas? (It sounds like a stupid question, considering I know that it's Nintendo, but just wanted to know if it's something different).
Amazing. Just to understand though, this is its own unique adventure correct? Or is it more of a retelling/remake of Ocarina of Time to look more like an early build?
Could it be possible that whoever is making this has an earlier build of the game that hasn’t been leaked? Maybe that’s why they are remaining anonymous since Nintendo would go after them? It looks waaaay too accurate to the alpha like it’s almost the real thing
@@TrinityRetro25Hey, "joenzii" said it fine. There are many words that can be constructed to make the same sentence as there are many words in the English dictionary. That said, he chose to say it that way as it was indeed the correct way to say it, but you however seem to not know this. Ironic 😂
For authenticity’s sake I hope they don’t use any of Link’s voice lines from retail OoT. Some may not know, but earlier builds of the game from about a year before release had 2 completely different voice actors for child and adult Link, so having the final build Link voice in this would kind of break my immersion tbh
I don't think link had a voice at all during the phases the project is trying to recreate (Nov '96 - August '97), but considering there is no gameplay footage WITH audio from that period. I might be wrong.
if one wanted to save some random bytes to their device, and said bytes maybe had a chance to turn another string of bytes that could be used on a program to load a very Zelda64-like expirence, where would I download-like aquire bytes for beta trailer data?

Funnily the first concepts for making it was it had a first person camera which, in my view, it would be a mistake
