    Thank you!! I LOVE this idea. Please know that birds can and will die from the fumes from odorless mineral spirits. I was watching another video by Coloring Bliss and she used, I believe, vegetable oil to do the same thing and it is completely harmless.

    Thank you, loved it! I was actually looking for a night background idea for my picture. Btw; here's a tip: you need oil to remove oil; if you spill oil on clothes, rub liquid dish soap on it before putting it in the laundry, doesn't have to be fancy, Palmolive or Sunlight or anything works. If it's a stubborn stain, add some diluted vinegar to it after the dish soap. Cheers!

    You have a great channel. One of the many things I blend with is deodorant. The white stick one that claims not to stain shirts etc. I use a Q-Tip to extract it from the stick and just wipe it over top of colored pencil and blend.

    I can't do this method bc I have tendonitis in my hands & there's just too much motion back & forth. A cheap & quicker way to cover a BG is to use soft pastels. The Mungyo brand is under $10 for 48 colors on Amazon. (I use Panpastel which is pricier but less messy.)

    I've colored one picture with Vaseline and I did take a paper towel and laid over it and pressed down to pick up the excess Vaseline. It was fine after that. I didn't like coloring with Vaseline....a) because it "melts" your colored pencil and I want them to last not melt them and b) Vaseline is just not my thing. Don't think baby oil would be either, but I would use it in a pinch. Now it sounds like I half know what I'm doing and I don't! lol Just my thought. I never knew you could use crayons like this either! Nor would I have ever thought to. I learn so much for you Erin! I will stick with odorless mineral spirits. lol Thanks for doing this for us! Oh and yes, I still love crayons and loved coloring as a child. Hugs, Brenda

    I realize this was 3 years ago, but you have my thanks for sharing. I won't use baby oil or petroleum jelly as I'm concerned the petroleum products will degrade my colorings over time and I just plain don't like oily stuff. I have Gamsol and it's a game changer for breaking down the binders (oil & wax in the pencils/crayons) and leaves the pigment on the page. Backgrounds are a challenge for me, but one only gets better with practice.

    You likely know this already, but in case you may not: I get cheap-o emory boards at $ tree or online and they work great for cleaning your stumps & tortillions. I tried your demo for myself & LOVED the results!! A great use for crayons! One thing I learned is not to go heavy-handed with the crayons or the color may not melt as nicely into the next color. But, live and learn, lol. I really appreciate your real time demo. It was fun to watch & fun to try! Thank you! : )

    I was happy to see that you could use the odorless mineral spirits on the Create Space paper without warping or wrinkling! I had only used it, previous to this instructive video, on my heavier paper coloring books. It, of course, worked great for blending on that paper. The Create Space paper itself can vary in quality as you have pointed out in another of your videos & thank you for that! I sincerely appreciate all your advice & suggestions & demonstrations. You are my most favorite art instructor on RUclips. How you find time to do all these videos while raising teenagers, managing an adult relationship, keeping house, & the million other chores you do is AMAZING to me. You are a real inspiration! Thank you once more, Erin.

    I know this is a 2 year old video, but a safe way to blend is use Lavender Spike, it's non toxic and no harmful fumes, it actually smells good, and it works just like odourless mineral spirits. Just wanted to put that out there, o, it doesn't leave an oily residue like Vaseline or baby oil.

    I'm afraid of Gamisol because of the fumes...I live in a small apartment and don't know if it would be considered "well ventilated" or not...it scares me, but I love the results.

    • @NoDontLikeIt
      @NoDontLikeIt 3 года назад +2

      Gamsol shouldn’t scare you. The whole “pretend it’s like gasoline” as she’s saying is just EXTREMELY STUPID. It’s not like gasoline, in any respect. It doesn’t smell harshly like gasoline, there’s no toxicity or chance of burning if you get it on your skin like gasoline, it’s not anywhere near as flammable, etc, etc. Some people take it too far. I’m an RN and I have patients on oxygen who use Gamsol as they’re coloring in their very small hospital room and there’s no problem. The one thing we ask is that they cap it while they’re not using it, but that’s mainly to avoid any spills. When they say a well ventilated room, they mean don’t use it in a tiny closet or something where no air circulates. If you use it in your living or dining room, or even a bedroom, you’ll be fine. Those rooms are large enough-even in a small apartment- that there’s plenty of air circulation and ventilation even without a window open or fan going or heat or air conditioning running intermittently.

      I use Gamsol all the time in my craft room and never had an issue. I put some (about an inch) in a small lidded glass jar with a cotton ball. Just remember to close the jar between uses. If you're concerned about the fumes, open a window slightly. Gamsol is odorless so you have to make sure you close the jar or bottle when you're done. I love the stuff and it doesn't leave an oily residue on the page.
