Community games are my favorite type of AOE2 content to watch

Treason is callled like that and works like that, because it is some random bugger in the enemy kingdom commiting the treason against their lord (Aka the enemy player) and thus revealing the location of their king
The two kingdoms do not have to be professed allies however, that is while treason is often done below the radar.
Treason came up so much in this match and I don't know why this isn't more obvious. As two sovereign lords, 'treason' is clearly not referring to the player being the betrayer. It's the subjects of the kingdom that are betraying their king. Though I could see arguments for it working regardless of being allies.
amazing how no one targeted blue this whole game and kept bullying teal rather than going for main western threat and score. could see that blue had the best map and best prospects by middle, yet green, red, yellow, etc chose to fight battles that got themselves killed rather than extend life.
However, as always, its hard to see total overall game when you are playing.
Hey T90, been watching your content for a few months and I LOVE it! Big throwback to one of my childhood favorite games.
Crazy idea - with the mapsize change options, I thought it would be super cool to see a pirates game, where it is a giant area with mostly ocean and several added unoccupied islands. It could make for an awesome community game!
Just an idea though haha. Keep doing what you're doing. :)

Man I have so much to say, it still makes me happy to think I participated in it. I wanted to do it for years, but I have social phobia or whatever you call it in English and I can't pay attention to anything other than my main task when nervous like that. I had to do it at some point, take that first game out of the way.
I want to explain my thoughts there but first, a big apology to how the game ended. I think it was the first time I had power go out this year, and it had to happen in a game with spectators 🤡
I sent a message later to blue as he deserved a proper ending.
Now my thoughts:
- I didn't remember pilgrim started with so many vils. I thought about transporting, realized I couldn't send everything at once, tried to make a TC, had no res, then I just started cutting wood. Full panic. At some point I move my king to the corner of the island and see green stealing my sheep. I'm dead inside and go for fishing.
- I didn't know this civ, it said good infantry so I made a few. Then I realized it wouldn't work for sniping, and switched to archer elephants.
- I wanted to kill yellow or red. I could see yellow king but I was afraid of not having enough to kill him, so I kept stacking trebs. Was too late and both died.
- I tried using treason 3 or 4 times while allied.
- I missed a lot of messages and thought it was me and grey, to which I wanted to add orange and turn towards blue.
- When grey asked for help I felt REALLY bad, I had trebs and elephants on the other side of the island. I attacked orange as a desperate attempt, legit didn't want to attack him otherwise.
- I had only 1 idea in mind now: transport towards blue through the trade route, hoping he wouldn't notice. Unfortunately I looked at my base and when I went back teal had sunk my dreams 🤣
- At the end I saw blue king in the open and decided to send a group of skirms around the top, while my other units went through the middle as a distraction. Thats when I dropped.
- You absolutely don't disrespect me when you say blue had the win, I fully agree. Wish I just took risks earlier to at least be relevant to the game.
10/10 experience
Even if you didn't win the game you won a battle against social phobia and that counts for way more. Well done!
You had a tough spot in the corner, but team Fire blowing themselves up saved you from going out sooner. I know I wouldn't have been able to do much from a position like that.

You'll definitely get in again one day and then you'll have learned the most important thing for commie games: get in on the action! Like green said after he died first, he just wanted to get in on it and risk everything after not having much impact in his first game. It's much more fun to play dangerously! :)

A question that bothered me for ages:
If a king dies, and all the other remaining kings are on a transport ship on the sea, and the exploding radius effects all these ships, who "wins" this shit? 😂 the top score player?
They did make that extra small map recently. If you killed one king on that map, it would probably take out all the rest.
@@the_rover1 that's a very interesting point that someone should try out! I bet the game has some order in which those kings die, for example first in the ship dies first, then second etc. Just how it unloads a ship, in the end it's all a table and a table has to be programmed in an order, not all at once. So I guess it won't just invent a draw ;)
This is the video that got my 6 year old interested in AoE 2. He does not like the blue player and rooted teal the whole way. Haha good job blue
Thanks for your engagement and all the content Tristan, as a kid we had CD on a windows 98 laptop and my brother used to play HD on my steam when he was travelling on the other side of the globe so it took me a long time to notice. Now he has is own and we play together sometimes and I really think that thanks to your content we are in a better relationship. The lack of autofarm was always a dealbreaker for me on hd and now I'm so happy with the game. I so etimes do miss the sounds of CD especially for when a unit is created or when one dies but I've heard there's mods to bring those back now. My brother is turning 30 this year so you can probably relate 11. I found the original CD for AOK and AOC at my parents and now have them proudly on display since I got my own student home. I always loved watching you and zeroempires (rip) but only really started playing at DE. Really thanks for still being here and I am so happy for the ressurrection of aoe (screw aoe4 11) Really looking forward to AOM Retold tho. I hope They Don't mess it up.
Sometime, Grey gave me the feeling of being stuck on AI easy mode, or just being too naive for this harsh world :D I rooted for him tho, his spot in the corner was damn amazing for Booming and to create a damn good shelter. I'm sure this was a really stressful game for him, hope that there will be a next time for him !

That would make it far easier to betray your allies. I'm not sure if that would be good for the game or not. Why not just make it a setting on the game set up where you can choose whether you want treason to work on allies or not?

Treason makes sense the way it is. It's an expensive cost to pay someone to commit treason on their empire.

If you consider that training a Paladin in full armor cost 70 gold I would say it's quite expensive.
Yeah, Treason is betraying your homeland. So somebody, like a servant or a guard is commiting treason against his kingdom by telling the enemy empire the location of his king.
It won't be treason if he tells a ally the location because the ally may be asking to deliver a surprise birthday cake or something (no nefarious intent) , and allies can also roughly know the location by flags.
Sometimes I wish T90 was 3 people so I could watch 3 times the amount of videos

Blue played the perfect game. Even though he killed a few people he actually did very little and just let everyone else cause their own problems. He never helped anyone. Would've been very different game had yellow not attacked red, that was a bad decision all round. Think yellow got lost in plotting and made a big mistake. Very good game to watch. Felt bad for teal. Had zero support, only grey was trying but lacked the game sense to know what was going on. Poor guy 😂

The argument against Romans being in the game is silly in my opinion. We already have civs like the Huns and Goths mixed with civs that come 1000+ years later. And the game is literally called Age of Empires... Implying, empires through the ages somewhat. So personally I think it's fine.

i love these games
I used to just watch competitive content, especially enoy the top 100 or so like 2k+. But these community games are really gaining on me. My former roomaate who I play age with still really convinced me and I'm loving it. Really funny because he only plays team games ranked and I only used to play 1v1 but I really got to love the team games ranked as well now. although I almost always go random civ I found out that team games can be messed up that way so I try to pick apprpriate civs. only around 700elo team and 1v1 so dunno if it really matters11

Orange was organizing a combined army of three armies against one, without ever even realizing that Blue's entire empire was untouched the whole game

Sorry, but how was blue able to chase oranges king at 52:00? He has no vision on him, but exactly follows the king and prepares walls in his base. Cav archers aren't even close to have enough vision to see the king there. I mean he maybe saw in which direction the king went when escaping the castle. But he was exactly following the king... Seems really fishy to me....
Orange never unallied Blue. Thus, blue still had vision of him.

that said, I don't think it would be a big logical leap to assume they were running towards your base, though you would probably check the castle first and then head straight to your base + check your walls for gaps, and would probably take a more direct route with your CA
I agree! Ally treason is great subterfuge
I think the idea is that allies can see their allies line of site and so you should just be able to see where the flags on the castle is. And if someone has more than one castle with flags, then that still limits the location to a few places. But for enemies, the king could literally be anywhere on the map, though they are usually in the base.

While 150 players trying to get sounds like a lot, there are 8 players in each one, so you only need to try for 13 games before your chance of getting into one of them goes above 50%

Treason works on everyone, but each player has a 25% chance of being notified who researched the tech.

I saw someone mention Dromons and thought you should know that Dromons can be used by Byzantines, Goths and Huns as well as the Romans. Though I'm only 6-minutes in, I just saw the comments and thought I'd chip in with something potentially helpful.

@@Th3UprightMan Fingernails are weird because they are connected to the finger, but somehow grow along the finger surface. The connection of the fingernail and finger must slowly shift, allowing the fingernail to move along the surface. It can't be just the end of the fingernail growing since the fingernail itself is dead. So I guess I can understand him thinking that fingernails work the same way skin does even though there are obvious problems with that given that fingernails don't thicken and just grow out.
Honestly, when it comes to adding the Romans, I think it's a great idea. Hell, I wouldn't even mind them adding other civs from AOE1. It would be ahistorical sure, but the game already is in a ton of ways. We could just pretend they're there as a what-if. What if Carthage never fell, what if the Assyrians (they're still around as an ethnic group) gained their independence at some point in the middle ages, etc. I think it'd be fun.
I agree. I see no reason why it can't be as you said. It's just a game after all. It's not a documentary. Especially when it comes to ladder play and whatnot.

You don't commit treason against enemies.
The treason is the citizens who give the position of the king to the enemy. That's what the tech does.

Whenever you have a basic grasp on the game... the biggest thing about most community games is being a silver tongue player.

I played an earth diplo game the other day where everybody was peaceful and happy until the eurasian players ran out of wood and turned on the americas and Australia, since the americans were using the Canadian forests and the Australian hadn't been taking much wood. 4 hours of peace thrown away for the last reserves of wood on the map
