      You're so very right my friend! If one wants the best outcome and most successful loc journey, they must be willing to ivest at least a little time into getting to know their hair and what THEIR hair likes, needs, thrives off of, and even what it DOESN'T like.
      After figuring those things out, it's just maintaining, tweaking from time to time, and enjoying! 🌞
      I just want to share what I've figured out works best for me, in case it sparks something for whomever is watching that helps lead them on their way to THEIR perfect hair regimen.
      I also love hearing other's stories, and continually being in awe of the vast diversities of this beautiful journey we are all on while growing are own individual and beautiful crown. 👑🌻💙

    My hair went crazy when I started misting it daily (I use this brand from Walmart) with Aleo Vera juice. I added a leave-in conditioner and oils but overall, it works. Now, I am six weeks on my loc journey and continue to do what I did to my hair as before. I keep mine under the sink and it has never gone bad. I add, Almond oil, peppermint oil, Rosemary oil, Cinnamon oil, and Rose water to my spray bottle, and now I mist my locs...daily!

      Ooo, good to know about you storing yours and it never spoiling. I've left mine in the mister out for a week (after another viewer commented saying they left theirs out some days w/o it spoiling) and it did well also.
      I've become a little less uptight about it, especially with the wonderful comments like this one that have been left on my lage, that encourage me to not stress it so much (it's not like the actual plant and me making the aloe vera myself, because leaving THAT out would be a whole 'nother story! Lol)
      Wow, sounds like a wonderful concoction you've made there! And yes, mosting often will help your locs mature faster, while leaving them moisturized and smelling fresh! Win, win, and WIN!👌🏿😄

    Yes on the aloe vera! This is the base to my leave in spray (glycerin is in there as well😉). I've been using it for years , probably almost a decade as a loose natural and still use it on my locs. i buy the big jug 😂. i have 4 kids heads to moisturize as well and we use it daily😂the big jug i keep in the fridge but my spray bottle i don't. it gets used up within a week to a week and a half so i've never had any issues. tfs💙

    I’m starting my loc journey this week and I plan on using rose water and an oil for my hair. I’m unsure how I may twist my hair (gel or not), but I’m so excited. Your videos are extremely helpful and your hair is absolutely stunning 🤩

    • @IkambaDeVictoire
      @IkambaDeVictoire  Год назад +1

      Thank you lovely! And you are so welcome, so grateful my videos are able to be of some sort of help to you!
      Now whether you want to use gel or not is entirely up to you, but if you have a 4c texture or even 3c (tighter coils and coarser hair) this is the perfect hair type to start out with the most minimal things because it will hold the twists well. So like rose water plus your oil.
      This will avoid build up from the start. But it's all subjective, depends how short your hair is, all that stuff. Maybe if you used gel first and then used the rose water/aloe vera and oil to maintain it, this would still lead to very minimal to no build up.
      Blessings on your journey luv, excited for you! 🌻

    Happy New Year to you too. I just discovered your channel. You have such an interesting and inspiring life story. Are you tutsi? You have such a radiant African beauty. Have you been back to Rwanda since your family escaped? As part of my masters at university I studied the Rwandan genocide and the history that led up to that terrifying event in 1994, including the role of the French and also Belgian colonialism. But I think Rwanda is a very different place now and I would really like to visit one day. It is actually now one of the most upcoming countries in Africa. I'm in the UK and the government has decided to deport all asylum seekers trying to get into Britain to Rwanda as soon as they get here. There is massive controversy about this at the moment. The media and political narrative is so racist in different ways. First the fact that the UK government is violating international law by refusing to help fleeing refugees, and then on the other hand so-called left wing progressives perpetuate negative stereotypes about Africa as if it's the worst place on earth while trying to defend the rights of the refugees. It's just strange and depressing on both sides. Anyway totally off topic from your video, but would be fascinated to get your perspective. I have subscribed to your channel too. 🙏🏽🌻

      First off, black sunlight ... what a unique name. A beautiful oxy moron ... my type of name, I love it! And thank you for your compliments and kind words! 💙🌻
      I am Tutsi! I'm so very thankful to have made it this far, knowing so mamy of my people did not.
      It's crazy how people can come into a place, that is thriving all on its own, needing no help ... and just mess everything up (like the Belgians orChristopher Columbus did).
      And yes, Reanda is actually one of the most peaceful places to live in Africa now. My parents moved back and built a beautiful house on the land my dad still owned about 3 years ago.
      It's sad to hear that things like what you mentioned in the UK are still going on (I was not aware of that ... I don't watch tv much if at all, even though I should at least try to watch the news sometimes. It's always depressing, dramatic, and just nothing good!)
      People have it totally mixed up (as they do with so many things). Africa is the most BEAUTIFUL place in the world, with so many natural resources, and beautiful vegetation!

    • @blacksunlight2618
      @blacksunlight2618 Год назад

      @@IkambaDeVictoireThanks for such a thoughtful reply 🙌🤩 Amazing that your family returned to Rwanda recently and have built a house there. I cannot begin to imagine how painful it was to have to flee from home, disconnect from one's place of birth and resettle from scratch in a completely different country. For sure I will visit Rwanda one day because as you say Africa is beautiful. I have west African heritage and I have visited 5 countries in north, south, east and west! I would like to try to visit as many African countries as I can in my lifetime.
      It was precisely your very cool name that made me stop by and check out your channel, as well as your beauty 🙂. I love the way you do your head wrap and make up, which is pure art. You look like an ancient African princess. I could tell you were tutsi from your bone structure too.
      I am loose natural but mostly wear my hair in braids without extensions, some people mistake it for locs. I wear my braids 4-6 weeks at a time and am very wary of build up and lint too which causes breakage when I take down my hair. So I am doing my utmost to minimise as much as possible what I put in my hair and mostly prefer lightweight water based products, so the rosewater option looks good to me. My hair seems to be protein sensitive so I don't put any type of protein in my hair in between wash days. Aloe vera is excellent and has so many amazing properties, but I think even the mild naturally occuring amino acids in it are still too much for my hair, so I stopped using it.
      I'm glad you like my name, but I have to come clean, it's actually the title of a book by one of my favourite African authors of all time! His name is Dambudzo Marechera. He was an anarchist African literary genius from Zimbabwe who died from HIV in 1987 at the age of 35. He was expelled from Oxford university in England for trying to burn it down! He believed he was being mentally raped and indoctrinated by the system! I read Black Sunlight for my undergrad studies and was totally blown away by it. After that I tried to read everything he wrote, but the books are old and very difficult to find now.
      Well, I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you. In the meantime peace and love to you and your little one 🙏🏽💙🌻

      That's wonderful that you've embarked on a minimalistic/natural journey for your hair. I really think that's the best wat to go about it, and your crown will thank you for it.
      Even though you are borrowing the name, I still stand by what I said haha And it is how I will know you now. The man who wrote the book sounds pretty profound, and it's sad that he died at such a young age. I'd love to find the time to read more epic books and learn about different cultures and experiences of some the world's greats as you have.
      Thank you once again for your sweet compliments, and I'm so happy to have met you. You're so welcome! And there are different factors that go into this question. The tighter the curl patter, the easier your hair will loc and stay locd after a wash. The looser the curl patter, the easier it will to unravel.
      I don't know your curl patter, BUT, if you are freeforming ... washing will honestly just help the process along and refresh your scalp and hair at the same time.
      If your really worried about it, just start off with water rinses and massage your scalp as you let the water go through your locs, squeezing the water through/out of them as well w/o too much vigorous motion.
      Once you feel a bit more comfortable, maybe you can introduce some shampoos (no conditioner, the will potentially lead to build up, and also encourage detangling which you dont want in starter locs of any type).
      When you shampoo, I would go in careful circular motions around the head with your palms (theis will encourage the hair to continue to loc naturally).
      These are some of my two FAVE shampoos at the moment that both smell DEVINE and yeild so much moisture!
