Pretty sure I was two or three seats away from him. I am so upset I didn't think to give him a, "Well done, Brah," after the show. Oops on me, for sure. Edit: TBH, I was looking at him recording, and thought to myself, "So sad he isn't dancing or anything. Just doing his camera stuff. Weird." 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
... Not sure if anyone picked up Mike teasing the theme from Star Trek around the 30 second mark. But it was really appropriate as the band soon ventured where no man has gone before lol. Those really were the days man!
I remember I skipped school to to the Island Tour. Had only seen them a handful of times prior but this show, and this jam in particular was a life changing event for me.
22 years later and still a spectacular high point in musical creativity for Phish of that time. What an incredible journey. Please spin like this again. One day.
I love phish because literally no one else on the planet could do what they do. No matter if they wanted to or not. Truly one of a kind and such a unique blend of musicians to meld this pot of goodness. They say jazz is great, but only appeals to the few, well this is the most commercial form of jazz ever. Selling out stadiums and auditoriums for months at a time. I guess you have the Grateful Dead, but this is just a totally different thing.
silverchair strikes again...this is the schiznit..a dvd from a lockdown spot like this would be awesome !!! i miss this so so much !!! SILVERCHAIR97 for President !
I just took Croatian Military Grade LSD on an Altoid!! And i have had this on Replay for 4 hours. Just saw the boys at MSG Fri night. This Island Tour can not be Phucked with. Air Gordon in Full Effect, insane bassline!! See you in Miami Kids!!
island run is so awesome. i really love it and all of the parts of late 97 where they arent overly focused on the funk, the funk was awesome too, but i think people discount 97 as being all funk when they were hitting on all cylinders.
love this, especially with video. amazing. hard to believe 98 was almost 14 years ago!? just doesn't seem right. thanks for posting this, it helps my pre-work anxiety.
No doubt, but something told me....especially here, that was Fishman with the nod to "freak out".....listen to both again.....really one of the most interesting jams by Phish ever.....glad I was there.....my wife was not simply 9 months pregnant!...she was OVERDUE.....and our son was born 4/9/98....his first show was Lemonwheel......and topped off at 54 shows.....50 was that famous Burgettstown show.....man did we have fun!
what they did with this jam this show is unreal!!..I studied it in awe and their connective high is amazing unlike any jamI've heard. I can say that for quite a few but this tops my shit!! trancy trip balls!! AFter 33 shows I can only imagine being here for this late 90's jam band rave!! letting it happen~~ my top pick right here!
woah...check out the lights right about the 4:30 mark. It looks like the lights quickly lock in on each member of the band...then its almost as if they are passing back and forth between the band, almost highlighting the exchange of energy. And right at the 4:55 mark he locks in on all of them. It looks like its their aura or something. hot shit.
Why can't Phish put out a DVD with decent camera angles like this one. I only need to see Trey make silly faces and Jon vigorously counting beats so many times. It doesn't enhance the experience because that's not what I see during the shows. This video truly took me to that special place... that place where the fondest memories of my life exist. Just imagine watching it in high-fi.
This is definitely a stellar example of the early, high energy Twist jams. This may well be the best. I saw a great one at Allstate Arena in October of '99 to start the second set as well. In 2000, Twist turned into a smacked-out, second set noodle fest for Trey - still a good tune, but not nearly as powerful or exciting.
Taking it to mysterious, uncharted places like only Phish can... Are there any other bands capable of this? Don't say Disco biscuits... good, but this Twist jam outbiscoes anything I've heard
i agree, and i dunno how peeps can hate on the funk either, when you play as much as phish, comon you have to stay creative and put new sounds on the table
The only other bands in the world that are any better than these guys, would be Metallica, and Guns-n-Roses ! SYKE ! I just wanted to get your attention. Phish is by far more unique, daring, genre jumping, and professional than any other band in the world. I actually hate Metallic-huh, and Guns-N- Roses. I've seen 10 shows, and made it to Coventry. Saw Page tour, saw Mike tour, saw Trey tour, and Jazz Mandolin years ago with Fishman. It's only right that they get back together.
wasnt the same.... dude I coulda done a better job with a zippo and a flashlight..... the guy didnt even know the songs, should of just had one of kuroda's assistants do it
no doubt. He always seems to be particularly on point for twist. I saw the last vagas shows where they had the Dave matthews guy on the lights and it just wasn't the same.
Either I'm crying or my eyes are cumming
Such a classic Phish video. The person that recorded this show is a god in the Phish community.
Pretty sure I was two or three seats away from him. I am so upset I didn't think to give him a, "Well done, Brah," after the show. Oops on me, for sure.

This is not just a jam, its a exquisitly conducted symphony that tickels all the senses.
Thanks phish! 😊
I remember I skipped school to to the Island Tour. Had only seen them a handful of times prior but this show, and this jam in particular was a life changing event for me.
This was the best thing I ever saw Phish perform...ever.

Absolutely perfect...physically mentally and emotionally
Unbelievable. Just indescribable. They can go to places musically that no other band could ever get to
This might be Chris Kuroda's single greatest performance on the lights.
SICK
This might be the best youtube ever.
One of, if not my favorite jam by them. Thank you for sharing.
Come now children, All are welcome ALL welcome, go into the light, there is peace and serenity, in the light.
I just took Croatian Military Grade LSD on an Altoid!! And i have had this on Replay for 4 hours. Just saw the boys at MSG Fri night. This Island Tour can not be Phucked with. Air Gordon in Full Effect, insane bassline!! See you in Miami Kids!!
doesnt get phishier than this...sends me to a different world every time i watch it

While Trey is coordinating the most blissful piece of music i have ever heard in my entire life from 0:00-3:09, CK5 takes us into orbit from 3:10-9-32
love this, especially with video. amazing. hard to believe 98 was almost 14 years ago!? just doesn't seem right. thanks for posting this, it helps my pre-work anxiety.

This jam is probably the most beautiful thing i have ever listened 2.
That'll take you for a trip. Always a great light show, he does a sick job.

I was behind stage (between page and trey), and this part of the show made face drippy. =O Amazing stuff
un-freaking-real; music is other-worldly, the lights are among, if not easily, Kuroda's best. Wow
I am sure this is the most amazing twist I have seen or heard!
ive always preferred the AUDs of this jam to the SBD. the AUDs ive heard just capture that mothership-has-landed vibe SO much better.
this melts my face
CK5 is on FIRE here, too! I've loved listening to this but never saw the visual aspect of it!
I'm I a crazy person for watching this video so much
Love the lights on this one!
A journey for the senses!

Mike is the man for this jam...and CK5 of course
PURE HOSE. PHISH AT IT'S BEST.

these lights are the best
Phish Phans The "Mothership" has landed at Nassau Coliseum!!! Face Melting!
From the five-minute mark onward, the Mothership slowly lifts off...
fresh out of high school then this happened
ck5 rules man i wish i could meet him
mike bringin it hard here
This is the GREATEST example of the importance of CK
