Patched with soundboard audio
30 years later and still the best version of this song ever put out. We are so lucky to have Phish in our lives still.
Prince played guitar 🎸 on a tribute. Very good as well. Tom petty, usual suspects 🍄🇬🇧🍄🐟🐟🐟🍄
@@pango-y8j agreed
@@pango-y8jyeah that was pretty much just the Traveling Wilburys with no George Harrison (since he was dead), but Prince but no Bob Dylan or Roy Orbison.
agreed
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever witnessed. And I’m 137 years old
Today?
This is one of the greatest guitar solos ever conceived by a human being
I’ve been studying phish and the dead on guitar for the past few years and Jesus fucking Christ this is the most emotionally haunting solo… everything about it is just amazing I got goose bumps
Somebody had their Wheaties that morning... good sweet Jesus TREY!
......and for the people who say that Prince had the best solo on this song......I give you Mr. Trey Anastasio.
Richk097 0 I know Jesus Christ this is just as good as Prince’s
Both were very swell so
Gary moore mite have the best but this is the closest!!
Princes solo on this tune nobody can talk bad about, but as soon as it was done I thought, now who else could do a rendition of this song and do it justice after that, immediately I went to Phish, because I know how Trey can rip a guitar solo on a good day….. and Phish’s rendition of this tune rips as well!….
Prince said he was influenced by this cut by Phish. Blew him away....
He's playing BOTH parts: Clapton & Harrison's part... very dank
In this and divided sky, treys overly large shirt and mushroom like hair almost make him look like some sort of mystical guitar playing creature that is not of this earth
100% were so lucky to have trey 😭😭😭
it was the jerry blouse
Which he is
Most underrated guitarist of all time. He's a straight beast and gets no respect because Phish is so goofy.
tube screamer in this era is sickk
71 on Rolling Stone all time, but still stupid list, popularity contest.
#1 guitarist of all time
@@lefthooklansing not a chance bro. The best player of all time wouldn't need 968 pedals. I love Trey, I put him like top 10 all time but you are nuts if you put him above Zappa and Hendrix. I'm not even gonna get started about Wes Montgomery and John McLaughlin. Jimmy Herring is on Trey's level, too. Trey is a God tho. No doubt.
He gets enormous respect from this lady 30 years later......what a dork!!!!
Killed that solo!!!!!!
trey shredded that solo into 13 different pieces, burned it and let its smoke rise up to heaven to let george witness its majesty. R.I.P. Harrison
wow, very well said
Man...1994 - I was at this show, and it's a standout musical memory. When they started the White Album...indescribable...
Red Rocks, The Warfield, two complete Gamehendge saga shows, the Fox Theater in Atlanta, the New Years run...
Those of us who knew where to be in 1994 were at Phish shows as often as possible :)
See y'all at Festy 8!
Treys ability to glide seemlessly from antonal figues into a natural progression with 1 measure in between. Back and forth the sways to and from each of these, with grace of the wind. Magic.
Trey literally just BENT fking time with that solo... absolutely filthy
lets merge one note into a two, then one, then two, then three note bend....cause I'm trey.
Such an emotional version. The wind blowing his hair really adds to it. I love his tone so much through the 90s and still today.
this IS the motherfuckin tone
trey had such a chip on his shoulder back in the day...came out every night to prove to the world he was the greatest
I wish he was still like this, I love the emotions in this song
No way, Trey is just as good now. If anything he's better because he's not fucked up.
tegurley11 he was
TwoHitsAndJointTurnedBrown Trey is absolutely not better now, but he’s still great🎸
i agree. my first shows were 92. he was a bad man back then. he still is, but young trey was a different animal.
This is mesmerizing 😢❤
I never post. Never. But I saw Phish play this song in Portland, OR in 94? 95? and I literally wept. Never been moved by a song in the moment like that. Incredible
So, like, ya know, you have never done liquid El,? Dios MiO. El Diablo 🍄🔥🍄🇬🇧🍄🐟🐟🐟🍄
this is what reaffirms my belief that trey is a guitar god. his knowledge of scales and the fretboard is unbelievable.
WOW!!!--- While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my favorite Beatles songs, and to hear Phish play it!!! The 90's in my opinion, were the best Phish years. I have a recording of Phish covering the White Album but this is an awesome performance.
This is the show you have the recording of…2nd set!!!
I mean, the original is of course...the original. This, however, gives me chills every time I watch it, it is so goddamn good.
for me: best guitarist of all time
He's amazing grace
Jerry Garcia was grateful as well. Have you listened to Dead 67-69. Songs like Viola Lee Blues and the Eleven. Cream Puff War. Good stuff. But Trey is still doing it. I love Trey anastasio. Certainly one of the best ever. 🍄🐟🐟🐟🍄
@@pango-y8j I've been to maybe 15 Phish shows and they were all amazing. My friends at that time all loved the Dead as well, but not as much. I had the greatest hit which was awesome, Help on the Way / Slipknot was one of my favorites. I'll check out the ones you mention.
Trey in this vid - they were all practicing like 10 hours a day and knew they were the best.
I've seen these boys a handful of times. Never had a bad time. Seen The Dead, Widespread, Floyd, Page/ Plant, Cheese.. and many, many others. I asked my best friend once who the greatest band was of all time and he said, " Nobody grabs you by your spine like Phish, even when they cover the great ones.... Nobody." Thats why he's my best friend.
You need to see Umphrey's McGee sometime then..... hands down.. best live band of all you've mentioned.
Dan Egan lol umph isn't even the best band amongst 2nd tier jam bands don't even think they trump phish even um fans will tell you otherwise
Amen.
@@fsmdanimal Umphrey's are cool, but hell to the nah nah. Phish takes it off planet while Umphrey's doesn't come close to the top of the mountain.
@@fsmdanimal this is the ultimate example of a post made by someone who just got seduced by a band. Irrational, exaggerated, misguided, etc. I bet you don't still feel that way lol.
The best version of this song, ever.
Phish was one of the greatest bands ever at this point in time. They were practicing hours & hours everyday. Anyone ripping them is obviously an idiot &/or has never touched an instrument in their life.
100000%
such emotion, truly amazing, this is the best version, no matter what anyone else says
i love jellyphish head trey.
lol.... Is he wearing one of Jerry's old t-shirts?
PhuryousOne hahhaha! fuck yea man. i didnt even notice that! i was too amazed by the jellyphish.
“jellyphish head trey” 😂😂
Psychedelic mushroom in symbiosis with Trey...they where playing together and had such fun that made it forever
speechless....One of the best bands to ever live....Emotion through music 100%.
Oh my God I can listen to this all day!
The key to being a guitar god is a XXXXXL t-shirt.
Or lotsa practice.
this is a blouse lol
4:05 If you look closely, you can see white hot plasma dripping from treys guitar.
Still one of the greatest videos on RUclips. After all this time, still one of the greatest nights of my young life. 10 rows back, cactus side. Rager.
The entire band is based around the exploration of emotion through music.
People don’t shut up about princes version of this which was good but to me this is the best this song was ever played by another band.
What an amazing performance!! 🤘
best thing of all time
Awesome! Great tribute to the song!
trey nails it. insanely wel done.
Holy shit balls. That was poetry in motion.
Looks like a shrooms gently blowing in a tasty cool breeze.
Never has a Muppet rocked out so thoroughly!
By the way, I do believe that this was the exact moment when Trey became TREY!
Open wide for chunky. Gorgeous, rips the tears out and sets them flying.
The original version was banned. Thanks a bunch!
Forget the guitar weeping, Trey had me crying
Thanks for posting this
Thank you for the way you did. It,its the best cover, george would love it so eric clapton.
fuck what people say.
this is one of my favorite solos ever.
and i dont even listen to phish.
Wow, awesome! Great playing!
Excellent! Respect to Phish for them respecting WMGGW! 🤘🏻🎸
The lead is incredible Trey channeled up The Beatles for this fascinating solo, live it Love it, Peace
the beatles yes....but the studio version was eric clapton on guitar.
Holy shit I love 3.0 but this is IT
WTF this is amazing!
Great song covered well here, and by other many talented artists. There is a Prince cover from George Harrison's induction at the RRHOF that is really amazing. He's on stage with some real A-list guitarists (Jeff Beck, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne) who all seemed as awe-struck as everybody else at Prince shredding this like he did.
Price's solo was good, but more of a show/performance altogether. Note for note this one, in this guitarists opinion, is way better.
@@bcp5296d Agree. Prince was as much of a showman as he was a musician a rare talent by any measure. I'm an old guy so I kinda' out of the Phish demograhic. I know they are beloved like few other bands are today. A few years ago we were driving out of Florida when I think Phish agreed to hold over at Zephyrhills for a couple of extra nights. I-75 was jammed for miles with people trying to get to the extra shows.
I saw them doing this song live in concert on 6/29/12 and it was phenomenal!!!
Yeah that's it...was looking for perfection and I found it
@anthonyBleakney blew my mind when i was blazed. good shit man.
Omg I had this video! On VHS!
It didn't sound like this!
As shredding as it is, it’s the restraint that makes it amazing. Also, paige’s backing vocals.
stunning...
This is so good.
this is great
brilliant idea :) thanks for this!
Great cover.
Man they are great
Never liked Phish until now. Amazing solo. I have to try to learn this version.
@Hunsanity I could watch this video...no sound...and appreciate it just as much (more?)...those sleeves are epic.
Pretty amusing thread. Seriously, though..TA is completely nuts on this song - out of some 50+ pitch bends about 98% of them are pitch perfect for their 1/10-second life while he's already on the way to another note. And most likely the ones that aren't spot on were his way of honoring Clapton's goofy original solo.
Yep, most people won't realize this. And that's ok, cause it still sounds awesome to them.
Incredible.
a very pleasant surprise
way to rock it trey you always were the beatles fan....and the dead of course
Love Trey's size 5XL t-shirt from this show.
Trey takes it to "11!" While my Ukraine not so gently weeps! Trey in the final 4, Cinderella guitar...shredding, pleading, bending, playin with abandon, freedom rocks from deep! Drums, bass & back up flowing with the current! Phish out of water!
while my guitar gently weeps. ahhhhhhhhh :)))))))))) beautiful
jesus is that shirt XXXL or something
Joshua Wakefield looks like one of mine! :) I did lose a few on tour...
mine are Jockey. Jerry liked pocket T's. :) :) :)
He stole it from Jerry
Garcia style
GLORIOUS!
Blows my mind
Phish doesn't do a cover unless they can nail it. And they nail it (in their phantastic way) everytime; their take always gives me insite on the original.
You ever hear 'em do Prince or ZEP? Talking Heads? Their takes & twists are phantastic.
How 'bout phish with jayZ. I hope they bring out a suprise guest in costume. I love this band. Anything they do will delight me.
SO excited for festival 8.
(The musical nature & language of phish is universal! bring your costume :)
btw, best light shows ever (only pink floyd can compare) Ty Kurado
He came several times...
Arnold put it best
@TheSuperwest36 with music like this and the beatles and clapton, there are no comparisons of quality, only heart and soul as well as mutual respect. i think they do it different, but not necesarily better. But hey, it's Phish and it's kickass. can I get a thumbs
Amazing!
gonna be honest, i like this version better than the beatles' version
my god what a shred
THIS is the kind of Trey I like to hear & see, he was really groovin’ here!…
Was this Cal Poly? I was at this show of it was☮️
Ha I went to Cal poly SLO, 90-95. Biological sciences. Rastafari Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🌵 yes I keep on keeping on, have mercy 🍄🐟🐟🐟🍄🇬🇧🍄
evenin nighthawk!
Phish is awesome, i agree! I believe their covers are suberb! i LOVE WHAT THEY CHOOSE~
TREY THE GOD OF COVER SONGS!! THIS SHIT IS STUNNING
Still better than prince
the reba from this night is gold also
Yea this is definitely better than the original! He murders that solo way harder!
🎼🌹Amazing🌹🎼
oh my god
Génial !!
The real question is...Did Trey get this shirt from Jerry Garcia? I saw it again!
phish will play an entire album front to back on Halloween sets, this being said if they don't do a perfect job on a particular album, who cares. If I hear a phish cover it's most likely not going to do the song any justice I would have loved to see them play this album, my favorite band playing an awesome beatles album.
3:29 shit dude!!!!! its like you feel it in the way trey is so lost in it its all out of feeling and thats amazing!!!
usually I'm the first guy to shit on trey and phish but he actually low key kicked ass here i wish more of his performances were like this
He does a pretty sick interpretation of Clapton's solo.
awesome
6.29.12 version was phenomenal and so was 8.24.12!
love this vid. whered you get the soundboard version of this song/show?
