    I’ve been using liquid glue more and more. I got myself a Precision Glue Press, and so happy I did. It’s a definite “go to”. It’s so satisfying to finally be able the adhere the slimmest of tiny die cuts without making it messy

      I heard about that glue press a few months ago and then forgot about it... you know I have an addiction to glues right? How tempting, I wonder if I need it too... maybe I need it to review for other crafters 😉. Thanks for sharing, you now have me 🤔

    The one tool I use on every card and has been in my craft space for the last 20 years is my Scotch ATG Adhesive Applicator. I use liquid glue too but the ATG is my go to tool.

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  2 месяца назад

      I love my ATG too, it's a great tool!

  • @PKEDRM
    @PKEDRM 2 месяца назад

    Yes, you nailed it! I use everything you do and I am a Fiskars girl too, but recently added a Tonic trimmer to try out. I use the Pro Cision for making my card bases because I also use a heavy card stock. The other Fiskars trimmer I love has the aluminum rail, and the blades are harder to come by - as well as expensive. Other essentials: a pair of long blade shears, short spring assisted Fiskars scissors, a sand eraser (I am always having to remove smudges!), and my DIY pressure tool for use with my M.I.S.T.I.. I have the full size Martha Stewart score board with the envelope maker insert for occasional odd size envelopes. I use it or the envelope/box board by We R Memory Keepers (the 123 model) for envelopes. I also consider my liquid adhesives as essentials. I use Bearly Art and Art Glitter brands that are water based, and Collall All Purpose which is solvent based. My big pink ATG doesn't get much use anymore since my daughter, who lives in Alaska, reported that a card I sent fell apart. I don't know if it was the cold or low humidity, but I no longer take the chance. Oh, I switched from my DIY stamp chamois (like yours!) to microfiber rags. I took one of the 12"x12" rags we use all around our home instead of paper towels, cut it into quarters, and ran the cut edges through my surger (overlocker) to stop the fraying. The texture helps in cleaning my stamps. For deep cleans I have a commercial stamp scrubber, or painter's pad refills I use only for Staz On cleaner so I don't damage my photopolymer stamps.

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  2 месяца назад

      I totally agree with all your faves, though I must try a microfibre rag, I have plenty?? I used to have a purple railed fiskars trimmer which I struggled to get parts for so I moved across to the orange guide wire version (which I prefer).
      It was difficult to keep the list to 10, but have a back up plan of creating a video on adhesives 😉

    I'm not one bit surprised that our Top 10 supplies nearly match, Therese! The brands, size, shape might be a little different, but I don't know HOW I'd make a card without these supplies at hand! I might add my die cut machine to make my list go to 11!! lol =]

      Ooh yes, remember card making before die cutting machines... the techniques we can now do ( thank you to people like Jennifer McGuire) a TOTAL game changer! Great addition! And yes, brand, size shape and age of a tool, doesn't matter as long as it suits you x

    Really appreciate this video. It made me stop and look at what do I really use every day for tools and I would definitely say I include all of those. Yup, I have all the things! I must say I hated the results I got from stamping before I got a Misti. I probably wouldn’t still be making cards without it. I agree with other comments about additional tools-precision glue press, pokey tool, scissors, pick-up tool. You didn’t mention a ruler. I have 6 inch and two twelve inch, one of which is a t-square and the other has a wide surface with a grip bottom and a raised finger protective edge.

    Hey Therese! I get it that you were limiting yourself to 10 items; I would have to add a “pick and stick” tool to (a) release die cuts and (b) to place embellies; a glass work surface/mat; and the WRMK Rotating Platform and Cutting Mat (I have my sticky grid mat on my rotating platform). Everything else on your list is on mine (and in my craft room!). 💚

    It amazing that 15 years ago, some of these tools didn’t exist and now I can’t make cards without them! I would have to add storage pockets for stamps and dies which help keep all the “little bits” organized for me.

    I use my fiskars cutting tool to score by using the gap where the blade slips in I use a stylus. It is fool proof for scoring. I don't always manage to follow the score line on a score tool. Good selection of tools. Unfortunately being another Australian they all cost quite a bit but last if you look after them. Great videos and you have a lovely graphic style to your cards.

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  2 месяца назад

      I agree, I used to have a Fiskars trimmer where I could swap out the blade with a score blade, it worked much better than a ruler and stylus. But I wore it out 😆. That was when I thought I might get a score board... and I'm on my second one of those too, but you are right, it lasted me a very long time, for me it was worth the money!

    Our lists are nearly identical. I prefer the Tim Holtz Tonic Guillotine Trimmer to other blade trimmers of various brands (which I found pull the paper to the right as I draw the blade downward). I haven’t, however, tried a heavy duty self sharpening blade trimmer such as yours. #11 on my list is a magnetic bowl in which I stow dies, small metal tools as I’m working

    I totally agree with the things on your list. They all certainly make life easier. The only one i don't have is the sticky mat. Like others here, i use my pokey tool alot too.
    I know your main market is the US, but trimmers & scoring type tools in inches are a real issue for us Aussies, however they are great tools and I do have these in metric.( Sometimes i wish card tutorials gave dimensions in metric as well as imperial). 😉😊🥰

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  3 месяца назад

      Yes, I am guilty of that. Since I moved across to US Letter size A4 I typically use imperial now. I get confused easily lol.

    • @audregaer3281
      @audregaer3281 2 месяца назад

      Card measurements in tutorials are challenging especially when they have been converted from metric and they use tenths of an inch. I have never seen a ruler in the US that is marked in tenths. It is always in (illogical) eighths. As a science teacher I know my way around a metric ruler but I have to change the measurements to smaller rectangular cards to save on postage. Generally I just eyeball it-if it looks right it is.

    Amazing 10 top tips for card making. I don’t know if you have a problem with your Fiskars trimmer, but even after changing the blade I get a rounded edge not sure what is the problem if you have the same problem please let me know and I will see if I can do the same. I mostly cut Bristol smooth card stock and company brands in 80 pounds

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you so very much Ginger! When you say rounded edge do you mean the blade is cutting on an angle and not straight up and down?
      I had that happen in my very old Fiskars trimmer where the blade created a groove in the plastic beneath to cut, eventually the cutting would be on an angle and it would do my head in. I haven't had that problem with these new white and orange sure cut fiskars trimmers as they have the guide wire instead. Hope this makes sense. They are lifetime guaranteed, maybe you could reach out to the company.

    • @lostinpaper
      @lostinpaper  2 месяца назад

      I have been through a few trimmers and had similar problems with one of my older Fiskars one (which was purple) in the end I bit the dust and bought one of the sure cut? Sure line? ones like I showed , it's orange, it has the guide wire and is much more accurate. Some people prefer the guillotine style, but I have never bonded with them... my theory is they work better for standing crafters, because you can lean over them better. I'd love to know if anyone else agrees.

      Hi Carla, I agree, there is definitely a heavy tendency for Altenew here, which was no surprise to me as I have been on their design team since 2015. But many other brands make very similar products that could easily be substituted or maybe a better shape or price or even accessibility if you live in another country.
