Great tips. I know more and more people traveling to Europe in winter now, I'd freeze coming from San Diego. Just returned from Italy for my daughter's wedding in Tuscany and I was shocked (it's been 15yrs since I've been to Italy) by the SWARMS of people in Florence and Rome. We gave up on Rome and hung out with the locals at a cafe and then headed to the airport the next day. SO many people now! Tuscany was lovely though. Seriously looking at retiring in Italy as the US is too craZy. Thank you for the info on Kevin. Will be reaching out! Love how you guys (at this age) made the part time move! It's now or never and having an adventure is good for the soul! (I don't want to play golf and pickleball in retirement, just seems too boring) Do you run into other expats?

It has gotten very crowded. We were first in Italy 35 years ago and the number of tourists was tiny compared to today. I recall we picked September to be away from the summer crunch - which would look like a small crowd now. Even April-May and Sept-Oct have gotten crowded, especially in Rome, Florence, Venice, 5 Terre, Amalfi.
We do see other expats. There are a few near our house. Some years it seems like our schedules don’t overlap, so we don’t see them. Many fewer expats than in Tuscany, though. I tend to think that Italy=Tuscany to many travelers, especially from the US.
      You’ll enjoy Kevin.
