Nice and funny video... but... you must know this is NOT how 99.999% of Italians eat at home!!! This is a chef-level meal, not at all "normal" :-D But I'm glad you had a good time and tasted some good food Also: Vegetarian and and Vegan have nothing to do with Italian food, that's catering to tourists or children of Gen-Zs LOL
I remember in out of the way places asking for the "Menu" meant you were going to get whatever the cook was making that day.
At 2:07 looks like Itzamal in Mexico. Long day trip from Italy.
If this is your first trip to Italy, you are about to experience food you have only dreamed of. Take it from someone who has been to Italy many times.
I'm considering this program (Age 58), I did a 3 week program in Florence this past fall and am currently somewhere around Low A2 level. Over all was Middlebury worth it?
I think it would very valuable starting from A2. You have a good base and with the need to speak only Italian I think you’d make tremendous progress. When we were there, total beginners and A1/2 could really advance their speaking ability if they were diligent in studying the grammar and vocabulary and were willing to make mistakes when speaking. I started as a low-medium C1, so our class had a lot of non-language specific content, like medieval poetry, history, and a lot of Dante. My grammar knowledge was nearly complete, so the review was helpful, but I wish we’d had more time to practice. Obviously, I can always learn more vocabulary, but self-study can accomplish much of that. All that said, we enjoyed the experience with the other students, despite the fact that the majority were 25-30 or under. As far as being worth it, it really depends on your goals and financial situation. It’s not cheap. I wouldn’t do it again unless they made our level much more focused on the spoken language. I hope this helps.
Is it possible to share how much did you guys spend on this house overall? Just wanted to compare to the U.S. Also, how much is the construction labor in Italy? If you have breakdown list, that would be awesome 😊
I honestly don’t know the final cost. Somewhere north of €550K, including the land. Similarly, I don’t know specific cost items anymore. It’s been 8 years since we started building. I’d bet you might find a rough cost per square meter online, though I’d bet it varies wildly by region. Sorry I can’t help more.
@@OurBigItalianAdventure Thank you for reply! I appreciate the input. At least I have an idea of what would have cost in terms of building from scratch.
Glad it’s helpful. If you haven’t looked at our website ourbigitalianadventure.com you’ll find the buy and build process in excruciating detail.
Great video.
Thanks! We appreciate it.
Airport transfer plans are a must. We arrived in CDG without a plan. We figured it out but it took a while to gain our bearings with some frustration.
We certainly agree. Large, unfamiliar airports can be confusing, to say nothing of transportation options.
Great video! Will be there early February and looking forward to seeing this!
Thanks! Enjoy your visit.
You guys are the best!
Thanks! We appreciate it. You are too kind.
Great vlog, lost me on the pizza. Ex Napolitano here 😂
Thanks. I get it.
Complimenti, una bella e tradizionale casa in stile Marchigiano/Toscano 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Grazie! Ci piace sentire che la casa passa il vaglio.
As an Italian, I do not recommend purchasing a tourist plan. Just buy a SIM with a no-engagement plan, for example "ho. mobile" has a 5G 200 GB plan with unlimited calls and unlimited SMS, for only 9,99€/month. Just be sure not to activate the "self-recharge" option, so you'll not be charged monthly when you go back home. It's a very good provider as it is Vodafone owned and it uses their network.
Italian supermarkets are very similar to what we have here in :Spain, so seeing this is not at all strange to me but just very familiar!
Interesting! Thanks for the comment.
As an Italian, I have to congratulate you on this video. I'm very intrigued to see how foreigners approach explaining our way of life, and this is probably one of the clearest and most accurate representations one can find. The historical insights are also very well-done and absolutely accurate. Good job! When things are done more out of love than for business, it really shows!
Thanks! We appreciate the kind words. We do do it out of love.
Gorgeous house!
Thanks! We appreciate it.
This was really interesting to me! Well presented, too. Thank you! New sub.
Thanks! We appreciate the support.
I have been devouring your Florence videos and love them. We fly into Rome for five days in early April, then train to Florence for Five days. Thank you for this piece on Rome.
Glad you liked them and are finding them useful. Five days in each town is perfect. I commend you for not doing the typical frantic rush through Italy in 10 days. There’s so much to see, but it all deserves time. The 5 day stays will let you get a good feel for both cities. Enjoy!
The one thing I absolutely HATE about Europe is that they won't bag your groceries in the supermarket. that is just so %$#@ uncivilized.
Having travelled in Tuscany, found this very clear and helpful.
Thanks! We appreciate it.
the sits just got broken and owner give up,especially in bad neighboroods, fun fascts the ladies sits last less because used in worst wais(bartendere for 25 years in italy)
Yes. This makes sense. Thanks.
By far the most accurate video how deal in Italy with food! ❤
Wow! Thanks! We appreciate it.
The best Gelato I remember having was from a cioccolateria, called Vestri. They only had about five flavors, but it was amazing.
Is it still there? We’d like to try it.
@@OurBigItalianAdventure Seems to be. Borgo degli Albizi, 11r, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy just a short walk from the Duomo.
Thanks for checking. It’s on our list for our next Florence trip. We’ll be there at least twice next year.
@@OurBigItalianAdventure I hope it's still good.
We’ll see. 😎
Beautiful house and garden. Just discovered this awesome channel and just subscribed. What is your nearest major town for groceries, etc. and how many miles away?
There’s a small but incredibly comprehensive grocery 5 minutes away. The larger stores are about 20 minutes, in Tolentino and Macerata.
EXCELLENT video!
Thanks! We appreciate it.
Grazie.
I love the small town grocery store . Mom and pop. The cheese and the bread are my favorite. The endless verity of bread and cheese is amazing. 😊
Agree. We have a video coming up about those stores.
The 🛒 concept is the same of Aldi in California
Thanks! My experience with Aldi in the US is from long ago, so we didn’t realize it.
Very complete and accurate (there may be minor regional differences, since customs and climate/traditional ingredients used to vary a lot, especially from north to south) I would only add that in the south (especially in summer) it is not unusual to start dinner quite late (after 9pm say), so if the restaurant is open at 8pm, you'll find it less crowded going early About pizza, note that there are two main types (and usually a given pizzeria makes only one type): Napoletana (Napoli-style), which is softer and has a quite noticeable big crust, and the "normal" pizza, which is much flatter and has a minimal crust. Some Italians have very strong preferences about this, but if you like both like I do, you'll have an easier time :-) Great video!
Thanks! We appreciate it. And great info. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely loving these vids! All such helpful information and youre both direct to the point about it. Im interested in the lease option and would like to look into that a little more. Ill be renting justa t 3 wks so it may not be beneficial but would still like to review options ahead of time.
Thanks! We appreciate it. Since you need to pay a pickup and drop off fee to get the car outside of France, it pushes the break even out to about 4 weeks, but you get a new car with full insurance. They have end-of-year sales where prices and fees are lower, so if you can book by 12/31 the numbers will look better.
I found your channel to be very informative and interesting. Thank you for the great videos and keep up the amazing work 💪🏻💪🏻😊🇮🇹. Hope to meet you guys in Italy someday!
Thanks! We appreciate it. Maybe we’ll have a chance encounter.
Best Advice in the video is the opening statement: whenever possible take public transit. The train system and bus system is great. Overall this is good video with good information about road signs and rules, but I completely disagree with their defense of Italian Drivers. Though I can’t confirm that they’re the worst drivers in the world, I have lived in several countries and several continents, they are most certainly poor drivers. They use “aggressive” driving to overcompensate for incompetence. I’ve been sideswiped while staying in my lane multiple times. The good news is that when they bump or swipe you, just forget about it, they don’t care, so neither should you. I would argue that they are rude drivers, they couldn’t give a crap if you have your blinker on and don’t care if you are driving 10 or 20 over the speed limit. They drive 40 to 60 over the speed limit and will insist you are rude for obeying the speed limit. The only time they slow down is when they are aware of a Speed Camera. As for roundabouts, as I’ve lived in places with Roundabouts, I’ve discovered that only about half of them understand that the people in the roundabout have the right of way. They will pull out in front of you and the other half treat them as four way stops. The average American has been driving much longer, with a much greater amount of logged hours driving than the average Italian. The only place that I’ve lived that has worse drivers is Greece.
It sounds like we’ve had different experiences. Thanks for giving us your perspective. You’re certainly correct about their use of lanes - or non-use!
Good morning! I'm an Italian that is looking for learn English, and also like figure out how foreigners think about my country. I recently discovered your channel. I would like to express all my appreciation of your content. Your video demonstrate a lot of love for Italy that I find amazing! You are lovely persons and I wish you all the best.
Thanks! We’re glad it’s useful for language learning as well. By the way, your comment is well-written.
Great info but the music is annoying and interferes with listening.
Sorry! Thanks for the feedback. Very useful for our future videos.
Grazie!
Prego!
My wife and i love your content, thank you for sharing your experiences. We both like the idea of having dual citizenship between Italy and the US. You both seem to live the lifestyle were looking for. We look forward to your content and maybe well have the opportunity to meet one day in passing by.
Thanks! We appreciate it. Our house is in central Marche.
Brava, nice video. I'm Italian and also American citizen, honestly the American restaurant system is kind of disturbing and annoying: First the dishes they always come with a mandatory side, second the waiters are really annoying when they come to the table several time asking hoe is going, it like a attempt to get more tip because they care about you but when you ask for some extra like salt and pepper they take 15 minutes to bring it on the table, and the most absurd disturbing is the TIP. they use to pretend a 15% now the minimum is 18...often 22% ( suggested) and some restaurant automatically charge the tip. So, if a waiter bring you 5 hamburgers for a tot of 50 dollars and get a 20% it's a $10 tip...But if they bering you 5 lobsters for $ 200...They expect a 20% on that that is $. 40....But what is the difference in work performance?????? It's the same, 15 steps out from the kitchen caring a tray....
Agree. We have a messed up system, as you point out. It’s certainly wrong that servers have to rely on tips. Restaurants have tried including a cost for server salaries n the prices and eliminating tips, but it never works. Inertia keeps things the way they are. Thanks for the positive words.
A couple of observations: (1) Paying for public toilets is not just an Italian thing, it is quite common also in other European countries. It actually depends on city policies, e.g. in Venice all the public toilets require payment (and Venice being Venice could be 2 euros or more) (2) Squat toilets ("bagni alla turca") are indeed rare but sometimes they show up in unexpected places. For instance there are bagni alla turca on the first floor of the University Computer Science department here in Torino, typically not a place visited by tourists. (3) "Toilette", sometimes used on bathroom signs, is a French word and should be pronounced as such. I'll finish with a tip: many department stores have toilets that are generally free and well-mantained. For instance in Torino there are toilets in the fourth floor of the Rinascente building downtown, a good resource during the sales season!
Great info! Thanks for sharing it with us.
All'Antico Vinaio has become so famous and popular over the last few years that they opened chapters in some other Italian cities too. The one in Torino is by Palazzo Nuovo, one of the University buildings, and is very popular among students (and faculty as well, I would guess). A while ago I had an American friend visiting and I brought her there for lunch a couple of times. She is really well travelled but she quickly decided that that was possibly the best street food she ever had.
Interesting and I guess not surprising. The schiaccia are very good. I will say that, for me, I think a crescia from Marche is better, because of the lard and how it makes the bread soft and flaky. But I’m probably just starting an argument. 😉😉
Definitely watch some videos on using roundabouts and don't forget to signal your exit, so people know where on them you are going to leave. Also Yield signs are far more frequent than Stop signs outside the USA. The US's unnatural Stop sign addiction is not universal.
Good advice. Those two things are quite different from the US.
The hours on the signs in paid parking spots are the hours in which you have to pay. Outside of those it's free. They are not the hours in which parking is allowed as stated in the video.
We certainly misspoke if we made that mistake. Thanks for pointing it out.
@10:54 the gelato link that you’re talking about didn’t show up as you pointed…
Thanks for letting us know. I’ll check it.
One tip for driving in a city, like Roma, Firenze, Milano or Napoli. These cities are difficult to navigate because of one way streets and restricted driving. Stop at a taxi stand and ask to follow a taxi to your destination. For the price of a taxi ride, you get escorted to your destination. Works like a charm.
Interesting idea. Though I’d still recommend just ditching the car outside those cities and using public transportation and cabs.
Very, VERY helpful. I was intimidated my last trip. Going again in April and will keep ur tips in mind. Thank you.
Thanks! We appreciate it. Glad it was helpful.

Fortunately he hasn’t done it yet. It would be very sad if he does so, but we’ll see about this and his other bats**t ideas.

This is like going for a "normal" meal in North Germany and getting some completely concocted dish cooked only for guests, and with no potatoes. I love Americans who come to Europe to try and find the "real thing". I suppose we have the same ideas about the States. Florence is one of more wealthy areas - unlike the South. I guess it's hard being an American in Europe - all those different languages...
