Perhaps one of the strongest sets since the 80's, looking forward to this one live! The guitar stuff was stellar, I think that Dave and Adrian had to work a bit to play 37 year old songs again, which made it so much better. Hell on earth was unsurprisingly even better live and didn't feel long at all.

I'm coming back to this video after last night's show in Krakow. Oh man, what an experience these guys are providing! Me and girlfriend had a roller coaster of emotions, and we just loved it! Every member of the band is giving the best. I was worried Bruce might not be able to sing some of the stuff because of his past health challenges and being in his 60s, but he totally does an amazing job! In fact, all of the members' performance doesn't go weaker in time (they could easily have more songs on the setlist) and they are sweating their asses off looking like they're having a great time! It's mind-blowing what they can do live on stage with these challenging songs with 98% accuracy running around and swinging guitars! As you mentioned, Nico, the setlist was with few happy suprices, and apart from my personal choice of changing maybe 2-3 songs for other ones, it is spot on. We heard songs live that we thought we would never, and it was just amazing! I could be writing about the show until tomorrow, but just to finish off, I want to say I regret that I haven't started going to their concerts earlier!

It's actually shocking how great they still sound at this point in their career! Bruce sounds amazing at his age, especially singing in the standard tuning as on the albums. Plus it was refreshing hearing them mess up SIT cause it lets you know they're real people, playing live and not playing to tracks. Absolutely love Maiden! Edit: the set list was very refreshing cause they've played some songs too much IMO.

I saw them at Sweden Rock Festival and let me tell you this is probably the BEST Iron Maiden show I’ve ever attended. The band was absolutely on fire and I had goosebumps several times. Stranger In A Strange Land is one of my most favorite IM songs and it caught me (pleasantly) by surprise that they played it second but how awesome that was! As for Hell on Earth, an absolute highlight! I’m so happy that this band still goes strong and keeps delivering year after year.

I was there yesterday, they were brilliant, best concert I have been on, and I have been on 2016, 2018 and 2022, but this one blew me away, it was perfection after perfection, although Bruce made a mistake on Caught Somewhere In Time with the lyrics which was funny and Nicko extended the Prisoner and made a little mistake on another song, forgot which, but it was so fluent they quickly recovered, and everything is just brilliant, I knew they would play Alexander and Hell On Earth so honestly Prisoner was the biggest surprise, but everything about the concert was brilliant

  • @ivanlovrin1161

I was there yesterday in Ljubljana. It was phenomenal!! This is my 6th time seeing Maiden live and probably my 2nd favorite! (1st is still Somewhere back in time from 2008).
Holy hell do the boys deliver! I'm still lost for words!
There were some technical issues in the first song with the monitors and Bruce messed up the lyrics but he even said that he can't hear the band and asked the sound guy to turn everything up.
Something weird did also happen while they were playing Wasted years, I think Adrian missed the timing for his solo at first, probably he didn't hear the rest of the band or something, he looked angry a bit, but the band repeated the pre solo part and he played it. There are videos of this, so you could comment about it a bit.
But nevertheless the concert was bloody brilliant!!
    Up the mighty Irons!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

A lot of errors, although they played them off fairly well, but as it’s the first night and there did seem to be some technical issues, I expect as the tour goes on that they will smooth all that out and it will sound even better.

It was an absolutely amazing show, and I cannot wait for my turn to go to the show. There's not a lot of things I'd change on the show. I'd maybe swap Celts and Madness for other tracks from those albums but I don't hate the picks either.
Alexander the Great... The Great indeed. Take a bow Iron Maiden, you had an incredible mountain to climb to match expectation with that track but you did it. Honestly, it brought a tear to my eye for them to finally dust it off and play it. It's why this band is the greatest band on earth.
They have such a deep catalogue of classics, they're masters of the craft but they're also getting to the age where bodies begin to slow down and it's a bit harder to do the hardest stuff, but it doesn't stop them. It would be easy for them to play Legacy of the Beast version 3 and play the stuff they know are most popular and deeply burned into muscle memory but this entire list is a challenge, it's all so fresh (Ironically!).
They have two members who are cancer survivors and they still push so hard for us, to give us what we want. They're just incredible. Bruce doesn't sound like a young man anymore, but he sounds amazing, he fought through a career ending illness and came out sounding incredible. How!? He's just got such a gift.
As for flubs, mistakes, missed notes or words... listen to the CD if you want something that is as close to mistake free as possible!
Thanks to the road crew, hardworking and unsung heroes, thanks Eddie, you take some punishment on that stage, thanks Iron Maiden, you are life changers and thanks Nico, for giving all of us Iron Maiden fanatics to share our love of the band with other people on the same wavelength. I don't have people I can share my love for Maiden with in my physical life, so I love this community a lot.

I was at that show and what a show it was!
There really is something special being on a first show of the tour and not knowing what they'll play. There was "rumors" outside of the venue, from fans standing there early on that they did hear part of a sound check and that the ATG will be played. We all thought that they were just joking (and hoping) for it.
As we entered the venue the hype was even greater. First we went to merch stand hoping to find something out by the shirt prints but they were cleverly not out for sale at that point. I'm referring to the ATG shirt that popped on sale (and store) just after the first concert, so, no spoilers at all.
After the pretty solid support of Raven Age (band of Steve Harrises son) and setting up the stage for the Iron Maiden there it was - Doctor Doctor! The crowd went wild, jumping and singing, all seated areas stood up and jumping - incredible feeling.
Then there comes Blade Runner theme and it was an absolute delirium in the crowd, we all knew what song comes next. On first notes of CSIT, some of us (myself included) got a tear in the eyes. Dream come true (although my first concert of Maiden was Somewhere on Tour back in the 1986. and I have heard that song live... but I was 7 years old back then and I don’t remember almost anything form there and my life long dream was to hear that properly once again - and there it was!).
Great atmosphere, crowd reactions, scenery... everything absolute perfect. Yes, there were some mistakes as all of you that watched live stream have heard but that gives that "special something" to the overall impression and shows that they are just human beings and that it is not playback.
Of course, the peak moment was the almighty ATG. What a performance... it was everything that most of as have hoped for. Don't need to mention that before mentioned tears was here again? :)
Until the end there was some all time classics for the firstcomers to the maiden show (fear, trooper,...) which are always great although I have heard them many times (since this was may 41st Maiden concert). But the reaction of the younger Maiden lovers to that songs was just priceless :)
All in all - our hearts were full, Maiden delivered once again with, I would say greatest setlist for a long time.
We were full of impressions and commented on the way to our hotel that we can’t wait for your reaction video since we all kinda knew that you'll be thrilled just as we were.
Sorry for a long comment and keep up the great work with your channel. UP THE IRONS! \m/

Great set list, great stage design (I loved that blue lighting), the band are sounding awesome.
The Prisoner is a very welcome surprise.
Although I wasn't really expecting it, I'm a little disappointed that Sea of Madness wasn't included.
Nevertheless, I see the show in Dublin in a few weeks and can't wait. The videos online are great but I don't believe they do justice to how will will sound when I'm there myself.
I had goosebumps when Caught Somewhere in Time started and Bruce's performance of the track exceeded my expectations. What a pro he is.

Apparently, they were having problems with the monitors, which would explain the Bruce and Nicko screwups of Caught Somewhere In Time. I noticed some other mistakes in the show as well. The combination of monitor problems with typical opening-night jitters probably made things difficult for the band. They handled it like pros, though and I'm sure these will get ironed out as the tour progresses.

    1. I really wanted to hear The Parchment. They just played The Clansman on the Legacy tour, and Death of the Celts is basically The Clansman Part 2, so I feel that was a missed opportunity.

Alexander The Great finally being played is great but after seing the videos I wonder if the band also wished they would've played it at least once in their career :D The intro was rushed, Smith missed the 7/8 interlude part, Bruce looking around after Dave's solo and missed/delayed "died of fever in Babylon" ending lyrics... I applaud them for taking on such a demanding setlist so late in their career, but you could tell they were more nervous then usual.

At the end of ATG Bruce just needed an extra breath which is why he delayed that last line but then made it even cooler by holding that note for way longer.
There is nothing that suggests they are unable to play the song as well as they could back then. If anything they're performing better! 😊

@@LicksOfTheBeast I watched Adrian do the middle little jazz solo and what surprised me was that he seemed to be playing it fine, but suddenly no sound came out for a split 2nd in the middle, even though you could see that his fingers were moving. Was that a fudge, or some kind of equipment fault - if it's the former, then how come he was clearly playing with no sound coming out?

It's true those eventualities give every show a unique experience. A few mess ups by the band are quite normal, but in my case I got to see how the band managed to overcome a situation that could've turned pretty bad. It was back in 2013, in Buenos Aires during the Maiden England tour. Just at the very beginning of Moonchild, the front security fence failed, a serious issue considering a fully crowded stadium. Bruce spent half the song asking people to stand 2 steps back for security personnel to start fixing the broken part of the fence. When the song ended, he kept repeating that request as there were people getting hurt in the process of releasing some crowd pressure over the problematic spot. At some point we feared the show was about to get cancelled, time went by and the band was still waiting for the quick fix on the fence, Steve looked particularly tense. About 10 min into the break, Bruce decided to start interacting and playing with the crowd to appease the increasing anxiety. We got to see him playing the William Tell overture by slapping his face, and perform a small drum solo while fooling with Nicko. Eventually the fence was fixed and the show continued as planned, but it was incredible to see the band (specially Bruce and Nicko) overpass a truly stressful and dangerous situation that way.

I would have switched 'the prisoner' for 'the loneliness of the long distance runner' .... but as you said it serves more people and covers more albums that way. I did not liked that octave higher middle section in Alexander the great... maybe i will learn to like it... I hope they make a live album of this tour. I wonder what amps they use for this tour to make these SIT songs sounds soo well.

Hi Nicko , very well said !!! I was craving for that Adrian's mid section solo myself too, he gave it on an octave higher which was not bad at all but left a questionmark .... Probably like you said, in rehearsals or soundcheck Adrian felt or heard something negative about some frequencies in between the sonic bomb of all others and decided that the high notes will somehow emerge better from in there... But it was so cool anyway!!!
As for the setlist choices they took , I will sound a bit grumpy, yes Alexander was the setlist highlight ofcourse, but what the hell about Fear of the Dark again...Trooper , Can I play with Madness... and Prisoner ( which I madly love) , they are out of context and occupy 25 minutes of well anticipated live thesaurus : Deja Vu, Sea of Madness, Loneliness, Parchment as you said. Just cannot understand this notion to '' satisfy'' the newbies, the younger fans. Will they cry or won't? I had imagined they played Genghis Khan as a prelude to Senjutsu title track (I thought these two would glue well together in subject matter) , but I was too romantic to live it. No Genghis Khan ofcourse, nor Senjutsu...Anyway.
The band looks and sounds terrific....and Bruce ... a phenomenon ! Jawdropping.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you Nick, have a whale of time in Europe! Cheers!

The thing with satisfying the newbies and young fans is why this band is awesome, actually!
Like I said the set has something for everyone.
You're getting Alexander the Great, Hell on Earth, Caught Somewhere in Time, Time Machine... It's only fair that the less hardcore fans and newcomers experience the gallop of The Trooper and the bounce of FOTD live! 😊
Also don't forget that a tour like this could never happen without appealing to the mass audience because that segment makes up a fairly large number of ticket sales!
Also say what you will about those songs but they always get the loudest reaction of the show from the audience as a whole so... You can't argue with results 😄

They were really great. I was looking forward to Hell on Earth especially and they surpassed my expectations as is usual by now for them with everything they do. Bruce sounded awesome. I especially loved how he held that last note on Alexander the great, Babylooooooon just went on for ever. It was brilliant. 👌
For me it's not a complete Maiden show if Bruce doesn't mess up ( or intentionally change😄) the lyrics at some point or another.
Everybody seemed really focused and amazing but I hope they'll get to loosen up a bit too as the tour goes on because I always love their interaction with each other, especially between Janick and Dave. And I missed the singing 'around' and with Adrian in Wasted Years, when Bruce moves his mic and Dave and Janick pretend to sing or do oooo's around him and H pretends to be anjoyed with them like they did on the Book of Souls tour. 😁 Kudos on the predictions. Just goes to show how knowledgeable you are about everything Maiden.

GREAT setlist, but as Nicko McBrain has said "You always find something to complain about."
    So here I go:
1.-After playing The Clansman during the 3 years of the Legacy of the Beast Tour it was a natural progression to play the sequel: Death of the Celts. HOWEVER I would have sacrificed that one or even Hell on Earth for The Parchment. It's an INCREDIBLE song. In an interview Bruce threatened with a tour where they would play the album on it's entirety. I don't think Senjutsu is strong enough to do that, but I think The Parchment deserves a live performance.
2.-As fun as "Wasted Years" is, I don't think is a good closing song, I think it works better somewhere in the middle, I was hoping they would bring Sanctuary back from the dead.
3.-To end on a happier note:
A lot of people say "Bruce's voice is gone", sure, he gave a bad performance on Rock in Rio 2022. Probably sick or something, but I saw them days later in Mexico City and WOW. His voice has obviously aged, but he is still an incredible singer and anyone who complains about his voice needs to go check his hearing.
Anyway, waiting for a show in Mexico City. Probably next year.

I agreed about that snare roll part missing in CSIT - it bugs me! And the "fake double bass" effect we get on the album with the way it's mixed with the bass makes the song a LOT less percusive live so although I love hearing those solos live again and they are executed greatly, I don't fully "dig" the live version but because it was the first ever Maiden song I got to witness live back in 1987 in Montreal, it remains ultra special. All in all, the studio version of ALL SIT songs are much better than the live versions incl. Alexander. And great review! I've watched the botched parts again from night #1 and most of it was corrected last night in Prague as per the videos on YT! \m/

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  Год назад +2

I hear ya... but I've been thinking about it and my feeling now is that although the new version he's playing now is perhaps less percussive, it doesn't seem to be something you'd notice when you're in the crowd and enjoying the live performance. Plus, it's clean and lets the song breathe a bit more - which is never a bad thing! 🙂
Also I think it's sometimes better to simplify parts to make them flow a little smoother than to have to be tense the whole time and risk messing it up. I always use Randy Rhoads' live version of the Crazy Train as an example of this. Simplifying a few of those licks made it easier for him to nail it every night and still be relaxed and entertaining while playing it.. and in Nicko's case he's also 71 years old so he surely doesn't want to burn himself out halfway through the tour!
