I'm literally shocked that the devs actually modeled buildings like 20 miles away from the actual track. I always thought the beach was just a texture.

My guess is that was in fact the intention; but for whatever reason (be it time or resources or hardware) they scrapped it late in the development process. I suspect that's why a lot of the DLC courses don't have NEARLY as much robust OOB development.

Look at the textures to the background. Even 100s of meters off the track, the grass is still really highly textured (I’m guessing they just use the same texture as on the track but still). The DLC tracks are less detailed than the backgrounds.

so this Rainbow Road track has always felt Christmasy🎄 to me and feels like I'm Santa flying above the houses in my sleigh. The train and the lit up Christmas trees down below really add to the vibe. Now I can see it all up close! 🥰
Fun little detail the cruise ship in coconut mall is an extremely low poly daisy cruiser. They just put minimal effort on it sense nobody would see it. You can tell it's the ship as the orangish texture is actually similar to the ground the GC daisy cruiser and the red and orange on the side of the ship would be from the daisy logo. What we are seeing is the ship in it's lowest form, layer 0.1.

The content is amazing, the over the top reactions less so because who GENUINELY acts like that and isn't a child? I'm conflicted but this is the first video I've watched from this guy. I'll watch a couple more and see if it gets better, as the content is really good.
The reason they didn’t add textures to things you would not see is because, it would have taken more processing power and possibly lag the system at certain points, it is a quality of life choice to ensure the proper fps is consistent through the whole level
My favourite part about this video was the Luigi's mansion part of Baby Park, it's a really neat reference the Luigi's Mansion game on the GameCube since Baby Park was a GameCube track.
So they did in this video and the other one something nintendo would never do, I wish you could do that in normal games, itll me so fun, finding shortcuts and just having a great time
He didn’t even mention but a lot of these tracks are connected to each other. Daisy Cruiser is floating around Toad Harbor, and (mu)Shroom City is under Rainbow Road. They connected a lot of the tracks like this in Double Dash too. Sunshine Airport has Koopa Troopa Beach and Isle Delfino near it

Toad’s Harbor is in the same city as in Shroom City, the capital of the Mushroom Kingdom. The same peach statue can be seen in 64 Rainbow Road
