I feel like they added this in for a lot of tracks when porting them over. I did this a lot on my DS Lite and remember being able to run the majority of the tracks backwards.
It's probably due to things like the addition of glider features and jumps for tricks

@@alexanderackerman3807 actually…if you play balloon battle on mario kart 8 for the Wii U, the battle courses were race tracks from the game, so I’m sure that’s a reason for why some of the tracks you can do backwards

6:54 its actually possible to go through that gap with enough persistence and complete a lap, im pretty sure it rlly screws up the checkpoints and the third lap finishes at the lap 2 checkpoint lol
You can do the 3rd and 2nd section but can't do the first one making it impossible to do the full lap.there was actually a poll on the speedrunning server to whether it should count or not (they voted not )

Hey Falc, just to be clear you can actually do super bell subway backwards. All you have to do is get on top of a blue train and you can get onto the other part.

The trains go into an out of bounds place so he can’t ride it to that wall
10:45 it’s actual possible if you take the alternate route on the side, jump off and ride on a blue train (time : about 1 minute and 10 seconds) Then wait until the end

Mirror mode should've been a toggle for every cc, I always thought it was dumb that it was locked at 150cc when 200cc is so much more fun

For tracks like Mount Wario, try going to the end of the track and attempt to make the way back to the beginning
Even then they still aren’t possible. Mount Wario has the ski jump and Big Blue has the jump at the end and even if you could get over it you still have an entire glider section
Yeah most sprint tracks are pretty much impossible. Except if you do a forwards then backwards tbh. On the other hand most 3 checkpoint circuits like retro Rainbow Road are a lap so...

wow this was a blast from the past... me and my friends at summer camp used to have "backwards gang" during grand prix races. i have great memories of running DS tracks backward with my friends

I can't believe you got farther than bandy on some of the tracks. That said, super bell subway is possible if you ride on the train
If you played Mk8's battle mode you would already know there are 8 courses where you can already race backwards.
Now the DLC ones are interesting to see

Fun Fact: Twisted Mansion and Music Park is possible backwards. In Twisted Mansion, if you go to the right corner beside the glider portion, it somehow disables Lakitu and you can go forth with the water fountain jump (This was patched). In Music Park, you need to use mushrooms in precise timing in certain jumps of the track.

We need a Part 2 for this! People are talking a lot about Super Bell Subway, Mount Wario and Big Blue, and other tracks they say are possible. Maybe try 200cc or another character/kart. Also please try the new DLC tracks. Loved this video :D

I've done Animal Crossing backwards, it just requires alot of precision.
For the first jump, you have to go right down the middle and jump. Then the glider section is the most difficult. Go towards the left-most log, and use a mushroom just on the right bit. Then, swerve towards the middle of the track then use another mushroom just before you trick off of the fountain. With enough patience, you should be able to get it.
Someone should made a thread in a MK8D discord or subreddit dedicated to solving as many much like speedrunning
I think that would be cool, and by looking at the comments, there are about 15 tracks that can be completed. I'm also doing a few tests on Paris Promenade on if you can do it backwards before the third lap. So far I've clipped through a wall twice.

@PuffyBit We did that one time when playing four playermode with my family. My brother had to go for ten minutes. So we put on smart steering and auto accelerate in the shell cup. His character got 6th place in Moo Moo Meadows, 8th in Mario Circuit and 10th in Cheep Cheep Beach. For Toads Turnpike my brother returned and got 2nd place. At the end he was 6th in the results. And we played it at 100cc
Heres how to complete music park backwards: that bump where you couldn't get above, all you have to do is jump out of bounds but get close enough to the track where lakitu will put u there

Ok here is something,for any of you that didn’t know,twisted mansion is actually possible by running to the wall that the gate is open on the side and that will disable Lakitu and you also need ten coins and a mushroom to do the jump.

actually, superbell subway is possible if you go on top of one of the trains and ride it to the beginning.
You can then hop of and finish the lap.
Not gonna lie Mario Circuit looks pretty cool backwards.
Would’ve been a neat idea to have you go the normal way on one pass but then go backwards on another like a Tour track.

I remember when I was younger, I was playing mario kart on the ds and want to see what would happen if I did a lap backwards, and I found out that doing this on the last lap would undo the previous laps.
I could very well be remembering it incorrectly. It was like ~10 years ago
I also see that this video isn't actually about whether or not you can complete a course by going the wrong way and actually completing it like you would normally by crossing the finish line

N64 Rainbow Road actually is possible backwards, you just gotta ride into that corner gap where the glider ramp and the barrier is, and it causes a glitch to screw up your lap counter too!
For grumble volcano, you could’ve tried to complete 1 or 2 laps, then do it while the track is fallen apart
