Not only was Ed the best ever on rock guitar, his songwriting skills were way ahead of his contemporaries. It's the songs. The guitar playing is the icing on the cake...
I've heard a few versions of this as the years have gone on, and of course, the Big River updated version too, but for whatever reason, this demo take is my favorite version. I wish this song could have been released back in the day on Van Halen vinyl. It has just about every Van Halen element that made Van Halen, well, Van Halen. What I mean by that is go listen to "In A Simple Rhyme" off of Women And Children First and that entire song beginning to end demonstrates the various guitar work, the insane drum work, the prevalent base sound not usually heard, the slow, the fast, the lyrics, the vocals, the harmonies (man, Michael Anthony was a background vocal harmony God), etc. etc., and I feel that "In A Simple Rhyme" completely encapsulated what Van Halen was and every sound they had. One package. "Big Trouble" was right up there with that. The MIGHTY Van Halen. And just remember this folks, Edward Van Halen didn't learn guitar... the guitar had to learn King Edward. Miss him and his gift. Shred in peace, Ed!
This song has grown on me BIG TIME since i 1st heard it a while ago! Encompasses all the wizadry of Ed! Simple song that kicks u in the teeth, with springy wirey guitar licks and that tasty fat tone....with all sorts of signature Ed licks! Good Lord!!!
Edward was clearly on an entirely different plain one that separated him far above and beyond everyone. His style, choice of notes to apply and equally as important what not to apply was, in my humble opinion, liken to only one other Guitar player ever and thats Jimmy Hendrix. We will forever love you both. You will never be forgotten ❤ ♥ 💖 🙏 R.I.P. ❤❤❤🌹🌹🏵💐💐💐
that solo is absolutely incredible. such a visionary at such a young age. amazing raw talent. everything absolutely dripping with groove. like, every part of him is completely in sync and enraptured in the music. I genuinely don’t know how he did it!
I remember the first time i heard VH, we used visit my cousins in Alhambra from Nor Cal and my older cousin had their first album i think even some bootleg stuff, i was 12 and blown away, the Seventies in L.a. were crazy wicked hot with a 5 year drought the smog was so bad it was like a permanent haze, but that was the back drop of this band So raw, so dirty, just bad ass, i will never forget that summer and the music. every time i hear this new VH i just imagine, the Hot Smoggy Los Angeles Area that these guy's defined....
The version on A Different Kind of Truth is far superior. Dave's singing here is terrible. His limited vocal range is really exposed here. And I loved the guy with VH! Solo, not so much.
Eddie was so ahead of everyone who played guitar absolutely a guitar genius and the greatest of all times!!
No one sounded like this in 1977.
They were 5 yrs ahead of the curve.
Dave is singing his ASS off. The band sounds fucking phenomenal!
Man, these “new” songs on the Warner Bros demo are freakin KILLER!
Yep. Why in the hell is no one releasing these on cd??? I'd spend a ton of $$ to have these in my collection!!
Changed name to "Big River"
@@robharris4518it’s sadly not as good due to roths aged vocals and lack of Michael Anthony
Yep
This is Big River on the final album they made together
@@Jaceofspades4339 Bollocks
This is from an era when new (REAL) music was exciting!!!!! Van Halen took over and saved rock back then🙏🙏🌹🌹💖💖💖💖

I don't understand why this was not on a album. . Damn this is good , ass kicking song
It is, "A Different Kind of Truth, titled Big River"
This is like hearing anew record in 1984 from the great evh. Band was on fire together and alive. That was fast as always
Omg. I love this.
Van Halen just wasn't the same after Dave left. One of the best front men ever
By far my favorite era
One of the best frontmen.....but not one of the best live singers
@@JoeR203 I saw them live in 1980 and they killed it. Never saw them with the Red Rocker but saw him with Montrose back in the day
There was no Van Halen after Dave left. Van Halen is the four orignal. Period.
Absolutely agree! I stopped buying their music. Also Eat ‘em and Smile was better than anything that VanHagar ever produced
Oh-la-LAAA!! 😂😂😂 This becomes Big River on ADKOT!

To add, would LOVE to hear this with Ted Templeman behind the board instead of Gene.

This is wicked HOT!💣💥💣💣💥💥
This is a great demo that should've been released along with other demos that really sounded awesome
These are incredible finds. Unmistakably Eddie Van Halen.

oh they are dripping all right
I wonder if van hagar has this many sidelined tunes. Freaking crazy
One of their best song Eddie shines on this one.

You can definately hear Alex's double bass drumming.
When I listen to this……so do my neighbors 🔊!!
It was a good idea to not release that one at that time but they could have reworked the parts on OU812
This is a great song. Would've been a good one to re-record and release on "A Different Kind of Truth".
They did. It's called "Big River" and is way better than this version.
Turned into BIG RIVER
Hey Freddy! How u be?! Great stuff you're putting up!
Crank it up!
Great instrumentaali, i don't remember now but here are riff what edie use later was it 1984 album🤔🤔🤔
Damn that was great!
Awesome, I don't know why this wasn't on the official releases, or was it ?
It's on A Different kind of Truth
@@robjohnson8382 ahh, thanks Rob, haven't listened to that in a long while. cheers.
As: Big River@@robjohnson8382
It's renamed as "Big River" though.@@chopshop777
Nice pitch correction 👍. Great job
👉🔥🎸❤️✅️💯
After DLR left, Van Hagar didn’t do Shit for me
Thank u
I never bought another album or listened to their music after Dave left.
With Templeman they redid most of the songs that were originally on the Gene Simmons demo. The Simmons versions were much better, IMO.
GoodstuFF MaaaaaaaaN''' d a v i D RotH
Everything Van Halen did with both DLR and Sammy Hager were awesome albums
That's my opinion If you think I'm right give my comment a like thank you
Kinda reminds me of Steel Panther..
Which makes sense
Is this unreleased?
Teddy Templeman didn't produce anything . Donn Landee did all the work . Straight from Edward Van Halen himself .
3 rock stars n. Mike Anthony
They could have had Tom Jones or Pat Boone. Eddie would have still killed it. Just saying.
I put these out 27 years ago
yeah so did i
77+live cd boot ?? I bought it around 1996 ?? and nearly wore it out.
Big Trouble became my top VH song.
