Looking forward to the class action lawsuit. The drug companies owe us. Especially given the fact that we were uninformed that PSSD was even a possibility. I'd have dealt with my anxiety in other ways.

This will turn out to be a huge scandal. In absolute numbers, many people are affected by this. Also, lots of people don't know they have it since it can affect only one facet of sexuality (libido, arousal, erection/lubrication, sensitivity, loss of pleasure during orgasm) or they are told that their loss of sexuality is due to anxiety/depression. This is why the new diagnostic guideline is so important.
Before doctors prescribe SSRIs/SNRIs, informed consent is what should be practiced. This condition literally ruins a lot of lives. Research is urgently needed.
Thanks so much for spreading awareness! ❤

If someone doesn’t know they have it, that’d be crazy. I knew it as soon as I couldn’t feel my genitals or partner in me. When you can’t get aroused by anything or even FEEL love or romance then you know somethings wrong.
It’s the most bizarre feeling and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

    • @ej6770

@@pinklady1812 There are cases in which everything is fine except for the ability to get (physically) aroused. This is still a form of PSSD and I mean these people who probably won't realize that they have it because it's too mild.
But yes, I totally agree with you that the impact on quality of life is tremendous in severe cases.

@@pinklady1812 A lot of people who have already gone to doctors were told that their difficulties were the result of something else and have moved on. After hormone treatment didn't work, I was told that the numbness was the result of my circumcision and there was nothing that could be done. Granted I never 'lost' feeling as I have nothing to compare it to, I was on SSRIs from the ages of 9 to 18 (I am now 36). Most people who have it likely haven't heard about it yet.

Absolutely under recognized. Not a single of the four doctors who either recommended or prescribed it warned me about this possibility. I took SNRIs for years and over time lost more and more interest in sex, when I always had a high libido and high desire. I honestly think my being a woman contributed to the lack of warning, since they probably assume it’s normal for women not to want sex.
I’ve been without SNRIs for a year. Being generous, I’ve gained back maybe 20% of my former desire.
My new psychiatrist who I saw for ADHD-after I told her I’m concerned about dead libido due to my history with SNRIs-told me that it’s so common that SNRI/SSRIs reduce sex drive, that they often prescribe them for people with extreme sexual desire and behavior (the kind that interferes with daily life). I was horrified. No one warned me of this.

Hey! We have a lot in common: I'm also a woman, I have stopped taking antidepressants one year ago, I used to have high libido and desire, I also have ADHD, and obviously PSSD. Have you tried anything that helped improving your libido/genital sensation/orgasm intensity? I've tried damiana, but it only affected lubrification which is the least of my concerns for now since I have very low genital sensation and very mild orgasms compared to how it was before I took antidepressants.

I refuse to try Addyi which is another psychosomatic and was barely better than placebo in trials. I’ve treated my hormones several times, all normal. I even got a prescription cream that is supposed to help bring blood to the area but it hasnt done much, if anything at all. Best I can do for desire is read erotic romance. It helps a bit short term.

I prescribed SSRIs just before the onset of puberty. For years, I was led upon what is called a "medical misadventure", in which doctors tossed drugs at my brain like lawn darts to treat depression and ADHD. My depression turned out to be not chemical, but environmental--I was a lonely child with few friends in classes above what was appropriate for my emotional development. The scars those drugs left in me continue to impact my romantic and social life to this day.
Today, decades later, I have just learned about PSSD. I'm shocked at how little information exists or interest there has been in talking about this issue. Why is there so little information available?
Thank you for discussing this--hopefully this will be the start of more to come

You have been chemically castrated and the drugs they prescribed to you have damaged you on an epigenetic level. But there is hope for you. Unfortunately you will NEVER be cured by the same people that did this to you in the first place! There is no “approved” cure for what was done to you. You were mislead and poisoned and it damaged your genes. You will never find a doctor who will take you seriously or give you the answers or tools that you need to recover. And I’m here to tell you that I have experienced it too and I healed myself. It took many years but I learned the hard way that it is possible to take your life back and heal yourself. I teach others how to heal themselves and after years of trial and error I figured out how to reclaim my old self and I saved my life. Almost same as me.I exposed myself different kind of stimuluses and used different types of things.Computer games, gingko biloba, trying to listening music as old times, pushing myself to using my cognitive abilites harder, trying to imagine sexual contents and resting and thinking about my internal emotions, values and trying to understand and classifying them. And maybe time make me near as my old self.Except ; not anhedonic but less hedonic orgasms, decreased libido maybe i'm 26 now and im not in my late teens. Even if i didn't take sertralin i couldn't get enough pleasure from orgasm idk.I was totally apathic but i tried to feel even the smallest emotion. And i tried to repeating it.And after many years some real life experiments made me feel raw anxiety. And i tried to manipulate this raw feelings to positive ones.Maybe i sound so meaningless, goofy but endlessly trying this analogies gave me positive result.
I think one of the main reasons of apathy and sexual dysfunction is you are no longer the same person who you were before starting ssri.Roughly when you quit it your mind, brain can not adapt the new situation. And trying to mix the person, character, emotion before ssri and in ssri. And this makes huge cognitive dissonance and apathy.Trying to reorder my values by time helped me the most.

I’d love to participate in research to save people’s lives, I currently suffer with minor sexual issues after trying an SSRI and an antipsychotic for 2 months, im just really disappointed but I’m at the point now I’d rather die trying than die giving up on this topic.

Thank you for doing this video. I have had PSSD for 8 years now after an SSRI was prescribed for PMS. I can categorically state that it has ruined my life- nothing has helped. As PSSD was only recognised in 2019, I am one of the numerous people told that my sexual dysfunction was just 'one of those things' and that there was no possible cause for my genital numbness. Within 48 hours of taking the SSRI my genitals went numb. I continued taking the SSRI for 18 months, even doubling the dose. Interestingly, every time I tried to talk to my GP SSRI side effects, even common ones such as weight gain, I was told that the drug was unlikely to be to blame.
SSRIs are a very well used class of drugs, so it is a spectacular failure of pharmacovigilance for such a devastating side effect to be ignored for over 3 decades. Every doctor who told their injured patients that the SSRI was not the cause should hang their head in shame- they are part of the reason it took so long for PSSD to be recognised- adverse drug events were not being recorded. I find it ridiculous that SSRIs are a) used as first choice drugs and b) dished out by GPs as a panacea given their horrific side effects, temporary and permanent, and awful withdrawal. I only had access to kinder antidepressants with negligible side effects once I went private after my chemical castration. It was too late by then.
I also am not particularly excited by the emerging research into PSSD: finding out which drugs give tiny improvements that are clinically insignificant does not help anyone. We need to find the cause of the genital numbness, we need a test for PSSD and we need to quantify the scale of the problem. Psychiatry has jumped from 'PSSD is not a thing' to 'PSSD is very rare' rather too seamlessly. No research has ever been done to establish how many people truly recover sexually from taking SSRIs.

@@PsychiatrySimplified I have tried tadalafil which improves the physiological response. I have also tried bupropion, vortioxetine and agomelatine. The latter 2 did nothing whatsoever. Bupropion maybe improved things 5% by improving libido, but I still had no sexual sensation or sexual pleasure.
Unfortunately, many doctors have some very strange views about female sexual function and insinuate that there are other 'benefits' of having sex besides sexual pleasure. They started waffling on about 'intimacy' instead. I don't think it has occurred to these doctors that PSSD destroys the feeling of intimacy, so all sexual contact is cringeworthy. I get the impression that they think that PSSD is somehow not as bad for women. I fully expect the research into PSSD to be conducted on men and women will be an afterthought.

The tendency of SSRI’s to cause sexual dysfunction is one of the most terrible, serious, and unacceptable flaws of modern medicine.
The entire point of giving an antidepressant to someone is to make them feel better, and to reduce emotional turmoil. But causing serious sexual dysfunction is an awful side effect because it significantly reduces the patients ability to have healthy intimate relationships and to feel sexual pleasure, and is completely at odds with the goal of improving mental health and someone’s satisfaction with their lives.
The fact that SSRI’s cause sexual dysfunction in 50% of patients who receive them, and can cause severe long term sexual dysfunction in rare cases of PSSD is genuinely abhorrent, and makes me wish that these medications were removed from general practice decades ago.

I wouldn’t be surprised if sexual dysfunction was intentionally underplayed by these companies to sell more medicine initially- it’s genuinely baffling and unethical and unacceptable that as a society we tolerate this.

Most of my past psychiatrists and neurologists didn’t believe me. I don’t have penile numbness, just no orgasm. Best I’ve ever had was on par with a sneeze, worst have been painful. This started after going on and off fluoxetine in a span of a year. I had a terrible reaction that resembled serotonin syndrome. Akathisia, feelings of terror, no sleep for about a week, non-stop diarrhea and nausea, jerking in my legs and tongue. When this triggered for me I also lost my sexual functioning like a light switch and my anhedonia got worse (now unable to feel music). Thankfully all of those symptoms got better over time but the sexual dysfunction and anhedonia remain.
I had taken SSRI’s in the past with no issues other than delayed orgasm (fluoxetine for OCD and later Sertraline for situational depression)
I also wanted to add I had the genital numbness the last few times on fluoxetine but I had no issues with erections or pleasure with orgasms. Now after being off I have issues with every aspect

I have experienced emotional blunting after discontinuation that has never gone away. My libido has remained high. I think these drugs are not worth the risk, they are almost identical to placebo in efficacy. This is a case of a medication slipping through the regulatory process with a very high potential for iatrogenic harm. This is due to the short term nature and limited scope of pharmaceutical trials at the time. They have been over marketed and grandfathered in. They are insanely overprescribed, back when I was put on them my quack of a doctor decided to put me on paxil for an “add” diagnoses and “generalized anxiety disorder.” These are both bs terms coined by marketing departments to sell medications. Its normal for a college student to be anxious and have trouble paying attention at times. People are just getting maimed in the name of quarterly prophets. This is an all to familiar theme in our modern society and we as a people are just passively accepting the mass casualties of corporate greed as if it were a force of nature that we are at the mercy of. It’s no conspiracy, just sloppy trial design and a lack of follow up research.

Doctor, thank you very much for raising awareness, but please beware that virtually any antidepressant including trazodone and mirtazapine can also cause PSSD. No antidepressant is completely safe with regards to sexual function except maybe tianeptine which has very different mechanism of action.
In my case it was trazodone that gave me this awful syndrome. Even though I've managed to recover significantly over the course of several years, I still have some residual symptoms which linger to this day and remind me of those difficult times. Personally I've met many people who got PSSD (and severe one!) from trazodone or mirtazapine and some of them have had it for 10+ years without any improvements so I consider myself very lucky.
In addition, I would like to add that there's been increasingly more evidence that epigenetic gene expression might be behind this condition which I guess is not good news for the sufferers.

Finasteride and dutasteride only cause ED if you let your estrogen get too high. Since they decrease conversion of testosterone to DHT, they increase conversion of test to estrogen. Anyone who takes a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor like finasteride/dutasteride should also take an aromatase inhibitor like aromasin, anastrozole, or letrozole, to decrease conversion of test to both DHT and estrogen at the same time

    • @TheStealthPawn
      @TheStealthPawn Год назад

The finasteride induced stuff is probably more related to allopregnanolone than anything else. By inhibiting 5AR you inhibit the conversion of progesterone to allopregnanolone and allo has effects at GABA-A. DHT itself also has effects at this receptor. In fact allopreganolone may be involved for PSSD too.

I’m on agomelatine. Will it bring back anything? I have been ssris for years and yes it takes away your sex drive and even attraction to the opposite gender. My mum put me on sertraline at 16 to deal with my depression instead of me leaving my abusive home environment. She numbed out the symptoms and not the cause. I have never been the same person since. And at 22 going on 23 I’m concerned I will never get my old self back. I recently came of the sertraline in August this year. After years of being on it. After coming of it my anxiety got so bad that I had to go back on anti depressants now I’m on aglomelatine and I still feel really abnormal and not myself anymore. I feel like what these drugs have done to me is criminal and I’m so angry that I got put on mild altering drugs at such a young age I could barely consent. I’m now a drugged up zombie and half of who I used to be.

Brother, you should look into what is called Post Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) as well. I can help you do in 4 months what took me 6 years to finally figure out. Contact me at (732) 682-6276 or my email zacl2010@gmail.com. I devote my life now to helping other men get their life back! Let’s get you back to being YOU!

Is PSSD IS permanant or goes awy after stoping medication..?

    • @oldmancigar8865

Depends on the person. Some people have it forever, some people have it for 1 year and it goes away, some people have it for 10 years and it goes away. It's a russion roulette

@bullet P My PSSD went away in the past few months, or at least all the sexual symptoms are greatly reduced my libido is high and my O feels normal, im not sure if it feels worse compared to before but it's better than the numbness I used to have.
Emotional blunting still comes and goes but I do experience emotion now. i took ssris from 2021 july to around august, and quit. symptoms improved summer 2022 and towards the end a lot of things improved. but as i said im not sure, sometimes i feel like i've been crashed again, like mood wise, libido gets crashed less often though than the blunting.

@bullet P So here's the order on me from what improved the most to what improved the least, most is the top least is bottom:
      1. Libido
      2. Sensation
      3. Emotions
      4. Disconnection feeling (This started ever since i first took ssris and has been a reoccurring thing, occasionally I just feel disconnected from everyone else, or the world in general, and feel like doing nothing.)

think my doc tried to render me impotent by prescribing anti anxiety med, went for a UTI and high BP, got the BP meds but the anti anxiety was not needed, threw them in the trash after seeing this and the comments, going to find another doctor also.

This literally happened to me, and how I got deceived into psych meds without even being told they were psych meds.
Went in for BP meds, I was given some BP meds that also tamper with your brain, then they sneaked out the BP portion and was left off with just anxiety meds. Absolutely disgusting.
